2 Maths Activities Estimate how many centimetres of snow have fallen. Then, using a ruler measure how deep the snow is. Compare your estimate with the actual answer, were you close? My Estimate Actual Answer What would this be in metres? What would this be in millimetres?

3 Multiplication Target Choose a number to put in the centre of the target. Multiply the numbers on the ring by the number you have chosen in the centre and put the answer in the outer ring. BUZZ- play a game of buzz with your friends or family. Step 1- Pick a times table Step 2- Take it turns to say a number in order (eg. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ) Step 3- If you have to say a number which is in the times table you have chosen you must say BUZZ! If you get it wrong you are out. Challenge Play buzz whizz pick two times tables one for buzz and one for whizz you might have to say buzz, whizz or buzz/whizz

4 Writing Activities DID Book Try to keep a snow diary every day. Your diary entries should include; the date, the weather, some information about what you have done and how you feel that day. Instructional Writing Go outside and build a snowman. Then.. Imagine someone is visiting Fauldhouse who has never seen snow before! They re not really sure what to do and you suggest they could build a snow man. But they don t know how to! Can you write a set of instructions to help them? Remember to include every detail as they have never done this before. You could try to use words like first, then, after and last. Poetry Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. They are often about nature, seasons or animals. Try and write a Haiku about using a winter theme. Remember the syllable pattern is Acrostic Write an acrostic poem using the word WINTER. W I N T E R

5 Report Writing Research and work on your World War II report. A Mystery Present Gem! Gem! Wake up! Wake up! Shouted Kayleigh. Santa s been! Santa s been, she yelled as she jumped up and down on Gem s bed. Gem glanced over to her clock at the side of the bed. The red numbers on it told her that it was 4.30am. Go back to bed Kay, murmured Gem groggily. Get away back to bed. and with that she turned over and closed her eyes again. But Kayleigh did not go away. Instead she was all the more insistent that Gem get out of bed. Go and annoy mum and dad. Gem muttered. I HATE YOU! Screamed Kayleigh and ran out of the room. Thank goodness for that thought Gem and she promptly fell asleep. When she woke up again it was 9.00am. She got up, pulled on her dressing gown and trudged down the stairs. When she got to the living room, she found Kayleigh, Mum and Dad chatting happily to each other amongst a heap of torn wrapping paper. Gem felt a bit upset at this. Morning. she mumbled. Good morning darling, said her mum. Come and open your presents love. She sounded far too cheerful for that time of the morning. Gem sat herself on the sofa next to a pile of presents. There was the CD that she had asked for, the DVD she had been after for ages and a new make-up set. She had needed a new lipstick for quite a while. Once she had opened all of her Santa presents, she started to open the ones under the tree. She pulled out the first one. From Granny Jean. it read. She ripped off the wrapping paper and out fell a pair of shocking pink socks with yellow polka dots on them. She opened all the ones from her family nothing too exciting. Finally there was only one present left. It didn t have a name on it. To Gemma. said the label without a clue who it was from. She opened it curiously and there, out of that small packet was the most magnificent and splendid present she had ever received. Answer these questions in sentences 1. What relationship do you think Gemma is to Kayleigh? 2. How old do you think Kayleigh is? Why? 3. How old do you think Gem is? Why? 4. Why do you think Kayleigh got so upset when Gem would not get up? 5. Why was Gem a bit upset when she went down stairs?
