2 Preface C ongratulations! You have just purchased DupliQ DQ-5610, the world s smallest and innovative automated CD/DVD recorder that is designed for office and home users. Your DupliQ DQ-5610 can be connected to a host computer or notebook via USB 2.0 interface. Enabled with an intelligent application firmware, this patent pending state-of-the-art robotic mechanism is capable of, automatically load and unload discs continuously without any human intervention, thus maximizing your workflow efficiency. Basically, your DupliQ DQ-5610 is an external USB CD and/or DVD recorder with an auto-loader that is capable of fulfilling the needs of any office demands for digital information storage and duplication process. The patent-pending input tray can handle 12cm, 8cm and certain business-card disc with one easy turn on the disc holding pillars. Up to 25 discs can be loaded at a time for an automated batch operation. The DupliQ DQ-5610 is simple to use. It operates just like another external USB disc recorder. Turn on the power, connect it to your computer s USB port, load the disc, start the application software, and you are ready to go!! 7 Hardware Installation This chapter explains the procedures to unpack your DupliQ, and get the hardware assembled. Unpacking the Package Before opening the package, carefully inspect the carton for damage. If see any signs of damage, contact the shipping company and your dealer immediately. Separate all parts from packing materials. If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact your dealer immediately. Save the packing materials for future shipment use. Returning goods without original package may not be well protected during transportation, and will void your warranty. Checking the Contents Below items are included in the package: - One DupliQ DQ-5610 auto-recorder unit. - One output tray (snap and rest on top of the DupliQ). - One input tray (to be connected to the front of the DupliQ). - Four pillars for input tray (two sets of pillars, two pieces each) - One USB cable (be connected between DupliQ and host computer) - One power adapter (be plugged in the Power socket at the rear of DupliQ) - One power cable (be connected to the power adaptor) - DupliQ installation disc and the burning software CD - This operation manual Getting Familiar with Your DupliQ The front view of your DupliQ is illustrated as the below: 1. 8 5. Input Tray (for blank disc) The rear view of your DupliQ is illustrated as the below: 1. Ventilation Fan 2. USB Port 3. Power Socket 4. Power Switch Warning Do not block the ventilation fan during operation. Overheat may damage the device or the disc. Assembling Your Duplicator Simply follow the steps below to carefully assemble your DupliQ: 1) Make sure the power adaptor is unplugged from DupliQ, as well as, turn off the power switch on the rear of DupliQ. 2) Install the four pillars one by one onto the input tray. Warning The four disc pillars are in two pair sets, non-exchangeable to each other, in two pieces each. Carefully distinguish them from each other when assembling. 3) Assemble the input tray on to DupliQ from the bottom by carefully pressing it firmly upward. Refer to the illustration on the right. Warning Make sure the input tray is exactly and firmly attached. Loosely connected or incorrectly placed input tray may impede the normal operation of the unit. 8

9 Note: As shown by the illustrations below, by independently rotating all the four pieces of pillar (patent-pending), your DupliQ can accommodate three different sizes of disc: 12cm, 8cm, and card size. Your DupliQ is not designed to accommodate them all. 4) Connect the appropriate end of the USB cable that comes with your DupliQ to the USB port at the rear panel of DupliQ. 5) Attach the power cord on to the power adapter. Then, connect the adapter end to the power socket at the rear of DupliQ. 6) Plug the power cable from the power adaptor to a wall outlet. Warning Use a reliable power source of a correct voltage with ample current supply. Out-of-specification or unstable power supply may lower its productivity, increase failure rate, and/or damage 9

10 your DupliQ. Congratulation! You have now assembled your DupliQ. You may turn on the power switch at the rear panel of DupliQ to perform an initial test operation. The next chapter will walk you through the software installation process. Warning If you noticed any abnormal function or irregular symptom, immediately turn off the power. Carefully re-examine the installation step by step. Or, contact your dealer for help. 10

11 Software Installation Before going on, you will need to install the device driver, the application software, QFOX, and the burning software, Nero Express. Both are stored on the CD come with your DupliQ. Follow the instructions below to install them. The installation procedure is very similar to any other external USB CD/DVD recorder. The only difference is after the installation, you will see two devices display in the control panel of your Windows system: a CD-RW or DVD-RW device, and an auto-loader device. Minimum System Requirements Your DupliQ DQ-5610 is an external USB recorder with auto-loader, its performance and function will be exclusively manipulated by the host computer and the software. The minimum system requirement to operate the unit is as follow: - Pentium III processor at 700 MHz or higher (for CD burning); Pentium IV processor at 1.2GHz or higher (for DVD burning), - 512MB RAM; - At least 800x600 display with at least 16 Bit colors; MB free disk space for CD, and 9 GB free disk space for DVD; - CD/DVD drive for system installation and for data source - One USB 2.0 port (or an open PCI slot for optional USB 2.0 adapter card); - Windows 2000 and XP for PC. Installing DupliQ Device Driver 1) Turn your host computer on. Make sure there is no software running, as sometimes it may generate unpredictable mal-function during installation. 2) Insert the installation CD into the disc drive at your host computer. 3) Connect the DupliQ USB cable to the host compute. Then, turn the DupliQ on. 4) Windows will show a message box: "Searching for DupliQ device driver". Please choose "Browse" to locate the device driver. 5) Choose "BREADUSB.INF" and click "OK". Installing the Application Software QFOX 1) With the installation CD in your computer s CD drive, go to My Computer > Click on the drive letter of the disc drive > Click setup.exe 11

12 2) Follow the prompts until the installation is completed. Installing the burning software Nero Express The application software, QFOX, will only work with some version of Nero Express 5.0 or higher. If you already have Nero Express installed in your computer, you may skip this step. Otherwise, insert the Nero Express disc come with your DupliQ to the disc drive at your host computer, and follow the installation instructions to install it. After installation, run Nero Express to take note its version. The version number can be found by click Help > About Nero at Nero s or Nero Express main window. Note: The application software, QFOX, will work with the version of Nero Express that comes with your DupliQ. It may not work with all version of Nero Express software. If you encountered problem while installing Nero Express, please refer to the software manual to solve it. You may search the software publisher s website for help: 12

13 Using QFOX for Nero QFOX for Nero is an auto-loader controller program specifically written for DupliQ to work with Nero express. It is windows 2000 and windows XP compatible. QFOX itself is incapable of disc-burning function. It must always be used in conjunction with Nero Express, as well as with DupliQ. Setting QFOX Follow the instructions below to set your QFOX step-by-step: 1) When you turn on DupliQ, the robotic arm (auto-loader) will start an initialization test. 2) Double click the QFOX icon on your Windows desktop, or go to Start > Programs > QFOX. While it is being started, QFOX will scan all the USB ports for DupliQ and additional CD/DVD recorders on the host computer. Then, the main window will be shown on the screen. As shown on the main window illustrated at the right, there are 4 steps you will need to do to get QFOX ready. Read on and follow the steps carefully. Note: System will always recognize a single DupliQ unit as two USB devices: an auto-loader device, and a CD or DVD recorder. Any additional CD and DVD disc device will also be detected and listed in the recorder field. If there were more than one recorder is detected and you are unsure which recorder is integrated with DupliQ, unplug the DupliQ from the USB port, wait a few seconds, then re-plug it on. 13

14 3) Step 1: Select software; Click the drop-down icon at the right end of the "Software" field. Choose the correct version of Nero Express from the list. See the illustration at the right. 4) Step 2: Select robot; Click the drop-down icon at the right end of the "Robot" field. Select DupliQ on the list. If there is no DupliQ listed, un-plug and re-plug DupliQ from the USB port to have your computer re-detect it. If still unable to get DupliQ listed, try re-install DupliQ device driver to see if Windows can recognize it. 5) Step 3: Select Recorder device; Click the drop-down icon at the right end of the "Recorder" field. Select the recorder that is integrated with your DupliQ. 6) Step 4: Click OK; Click the "OK" button at the lower right corner of the QFOX s window to complete the setting. 7) Now you are ready to run Nero Express to start burning job with DupliQ. Note: For optimal burning performance, we recommend you minimized the number of programs running at the same time. Note: The current version of QFOX does not support the following function of Nero Express: Multi-session, Simulation, Erase, and Verify, 14

15 Menu Option -- File There are 5 sub options under File Save Log: Stores DupliQ s activity records to the default directory where QFOX is installed. The file name will be: Log_MMDDYYYY.txt where MMDDYY denotes the date the file is saved in month, date, year format. Or, you may choose "File" -> "Save Log" to save the log file to another directory or with another file name. Clear Log: Erase the log files without save it to hard disk. Be make sure the activity record is no longer needed before selecting this option. Release Disc: To instruct the auto-loader to immediately release disc at its current position. Park Arm: Always select this option if DupliQ is to be transported or moved. This action will park the arm into a packing ready position. Exit: To immediately close and exit QFOX. Menu Option -- Help By clicking the Help option, there are 2 sub-options: Content: To read the help file in HTML format. About: Check the version number and copyright information of QFOX. Uninstalling QFOX 1) Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 2) Select QFOX in the "Add or Remove Programs" window and click "remove". 15

16 3) When you uninstall QFOX from your computer, you may be prompted by Windows to make decision on whether to remove or keep file(s), which may be shared by other programs. If you are unsure what to do, always choose to keep the file(s). 16

17 Reference Q. What is the best speed to duplicate audio disc? Generally for audio duplication, 16X or under are recommended speed. Operating at a higher speed may produce undesired or poor audio quality. Q. How to eliminate burning coasters? Make sure both the master and the blank discs are in good condition. Keep the system level and stable. If burning error persists, lower the burning speed. Q. What is the proper procedure for turning the system On/Off? Please allow 5 seconds interval between On and Off. Q. Why does the robotic arm fail to pickup disc? The most common cause is the optical disc itself. Disc media varies in thickness, diameter, and stiffness. Make sure the disc does not bent or distorted and is in standard dimensions. Normally if a robotic arm is having mechanical problem, it will not pick up any disc at all. If you had experienced with a pick-up problem, first, try several different lots of disc of different brands to see if the same problem still persist. In addition, check the horizontal flatness of the input tray, as well as the recorder tray at its most outward extended position. If none of the above works, please contact your dealer for assistance. Q. What should I do if the robotic arm does not move? You can either click on "Retry" to go on or "Cancel" to stop. If robotic arm still hangs, please reboot DupliQ. Q. What should I do if QFOX window disappears or if QFOX operation buttons do not work? Please stop all other programs, save your working job, and then reboot your system. Q. What should I do if I need technical support? Please the following files, along with your questions and/or commands to our technical support department. The tech-support address is: support@acronova.com QFOX s log file: 17

18 The file is named: "Log_MMDDYYYY.txt", which shall be under the directory where QFOX is installed, for example, C:\Program Files\QFOX. Nero s history file: The file is named "NeroHistory.txt", which shall be under the directory where Nero is installed, for example, C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero. Choosing Blank Disc There are huge variety of recordable CDs and DVDs on the market with different brands, writing speeds, and packages. Due to the slightly difference of each brand, not all of the discs would work perfectly with the unit in every case. Please choose the blank disc that is most suitable for your application. We strongly suggest users test the blank discs by using simulation mode before the actual burning duplication. You may contact your local dealer for advice for the best suitable blank disc for the unit and your application. Handling discs When holding discs of any type, always hold the disc by its edge or by the center hole and edge. Make sure not to leave fingerprints, dirt or scratches on the disc surface. Damaged or dirty discs can affect playback and burning performance. Please note, label side of the disc, although not as fragile as the recording side, scratches can still render the disc unusable. Disc to avoid Discs spin at high speed inside the disc recorder. If you can see that a disc is cracked, chipped, warped, or otherwise damaged, don't risk using it. It may end up with body injury, or damaging the recorder and the system. Production vs. Throughput The quality of the master disc and the data format also play critical roles in a burning job and the quality of the discs produced. If you keep encountering difficulties, try a lower writing speed. In many cases the production rate shall successfully trades off the throughput rate. Note that selecting a high-speed does not mean the writing speed will be fixed at maximum. The system will automatically vary the writing speed during burning a disc from the inner ring to the outer ring. Your selections only applies to the maximum writing speed. 18

19 Moving DupliQ Before moving your DupliQ, always: 1) remove the disc in trays; 2) Go to QFOX > File > Park Arm, to park the arm. 3) Turn off the power and remove the input bin. 4) Disconnect the USB cable and the power cord. Warning Never move DupliQ while it is in loading or burning mode, as it may damage the disc inside.
