Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) Media Endpoint Discovery (MED) Port Settings Configuration on ESW2-350G Switches Objective LLDP Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP MED) provides additional capabilities to support media endpoint devices such as to enable the advertisement of network polices for applications like voice or video, device location discovery, and troubleshooting information. LLDP and CDP are both similar protocols, the difference is LLDP facilitates vendor interoperability and CDP is Cisco Proprietary. LLDP can be used in scenarios where the user needs to work between devices which are not Cisco proprietary and devices which are Cisco proprietary. Note: A network policy must be configured as a prerequisite for this configuration. To configure a network policy go through the article Link Layer Discovery Protocol Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP-MED) Network Policy Configuration on ESW2-350G Switches. This article explains how to configure LLDP MED for each port on the switch. Applicable Devices ESW2-350G ESW2-350G-DC Software Version LLDP MED Port Settings Configuration Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility on the switch and choose Administration > Discovery - LLDP > LLDP MED Port Settings. The LLDP MED Port Settings page opens. Note: The LLDP MED Port Settings page enables the selection of LLDP-MED Type-Length Values (TLVs) and/or the network policies that are to be included in the outgoing LLDP advertisement for each interface. LLDP TLVs are are used to describe individual pieces of information that the protocols transfer.

Step 2. (Optional) The message at the top of the LLDP MED Port Settings page indicates whether or not the LLDP Network Policy for the voice application is in automatic mode or not. Click the LLDP MED Network Policy link to change this mode. If the voice application is not set to Auto mode on the LLDP MED Port Settings page then it becomes available in the list of Available Network Policies. Step 3. Click the radio button next to an interface number and click Edit to associate additional LLDP MED TLVs to the port. The Edit LLDP MED Port Settings window appears.

Step 4. (Optional) Choose the interface to configure from the Interface drop-down list. Step 5. Check the Enable check box in the LLDP MED Status field to enable LLDP MED on the current port.

Step 6. (Optional) Check the Enable check box in the SNMP Notification field to choose whether the log notification is sent on a per-port basis when an end station that supports MED has been discovered. Step 7. Click the TLVs in the Available Optional TLVs list that you would like the switch to publish and click the Right Arrow icon to transfer them to the Selected Optional TLVs list. TLVs are short information elements which are used to communicate complex data. Each TLV advertises a single type of information such as its device ID, type, or management addresses. To remove TLVs click the TLVs from the Selected Optional TLVs list and click the Left Arrow icon to remove them from Selected Optional TLVs and move it to Available Optional TLVs.

Step 8. Click the LLDP MED policies in the Available Network Policies list you would like the switch to publish by LLDP and click the Right Arrow icon to transfer them to the Selected Network Policies list. If Voice Application is in Auto Mode, it is not available in this list and cannot be selected manually here under Available Network Policies. To remove a policy click the policies from the Selected Network Policies and click the Left Arrow icon to remove them from Selected Network Policies and move it to Available Network Policies. Note: To include one or more user defined network policies in the advertisement you must select Network Policy from the Available Optional TLVs. Note: The Location Coordinate, Location Civic Address and Location ECS ELIN information can be viewed at Administration > Discovery - LLDP > LLDP Local Information. This info

is shown with respect to the standard ANSI-TIA Step 9. (Optional) Enter the coordinate location that you would like LLDP to publish in the Location Coordinate field. This gives the coordinate location such as ID, latitude, altitude, longitude, altitude type. Note: 16 pairs of hexadecimal numbers are required for this field. Step 10. (Optional) Enter the civic address that you would like LLDP to publish in the Location Civic Address field. This gives the location civic addresses such as Name. Postal code, Building, Unit, Floor, Landmark, and so on. Note: A minimum of 6 pairs of hexadecimal numbers are required in this field. Step 11. (Optional) Enter the Emergency Call Service (ECS) ELIN that you would like LLDP to publish in the Location ECS ELIN field. This is used to specify the location of the network device by its Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN). Note: A minimum of 10 pairs of hexadecimal numbers are required in this field. Step 12. Click Apply to modify the LLDP MED port settings and update the Running Configuration file. Copy LLDP MED Port Settings Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility on the switch and choose Administration > Discovery - LLDP > LLDP MED Port Settings. The LLDP MED Port Settings page opens.

Step 2. Click the desired entry radio button and click Copy Settings to copy the settings of one configuration to another. A new window appears. Step 3. Enter the port(s) to which the selected configuration is to be copied in the provided field. Separate different ports or ranges with commas. Step 4. Click Apply to apply the settings. View LLDP Local Information Details Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility on the switch and choose Administration > Discovery - LLDP > LLDP MED Port Settings. The LLDP MED Port Settings page opens.

Step 2. Click LLDP Local Information Detail to view the details of the LLDP local information. This can also be viewed if you choose Administration > Discovery -LLDP > LLDP Local Information.
