1 ALERT CONFIGURATION GUIDE SIA DRIVER 1) Installation A) SIA modem installation The SIA modem must be connected to a serial port on the PC (COM1, ) and plugged in an analog phone line. The modem being completely managed by Alert, it is not necessary to install specific driver for this modem. In the dialog box «Communication» ( Menu «Configuration / Communication»), «Ports» tab, click on the «Add button and then select the physical port (COM) corresponding to the port where the SIA modem is connected to. Define this port as a Modem Hayes type port. The speed and the transmission format can be preconfigured to 9600 bauds, 8 bits, 1 stop, no parity. If this modem is connected on an internal phone line, remember to set a dial prefix to access the public network. In order to simultaneously use several analog modems with Alert, the SIA modem must be defined as a specific type. This type is defined by adding in the Alert.ini file the entry modemtype=1 for the *COMx+ section, x being the port number used for the SIA modem.

For earlier version, it is not possible to use a SIA mode with another analog modem. B) SIA driver installation When installing the ALERT software, the communication driver «modem SIA» must be selected ( Alert component, option «communication drivers»). If the software has already been installed, you have to re-install it and select this option. The previous options will be remembered.

3 2) SIA driver configuration In the dialog box «Communication» (Menu «Configuration / Communication»), «drivers» tab, if the «SIA» entry is not listed, click on the «Add» button to add the SIA driver. When the SIA driver has been added, double click on the SIA entry in the list to configure it. In the displayed dialog box define the transmitter number simulated by ALERT. This information is usually given by the remote monitoring company which will handle the SIA calls transmitted by ALERT. Select the «Hayes Modem» link type then click on the Modem parameters button. The standard parameters are displayed in the dialog box below.

4 The default event codes are those that will be sent by ALERT for all the alarms that do not redefine the event code in their associated short message (see the following Use section). The alarm code is sent when the alarm is triggered, the reset code is sent at the alarm reset ( if the call on alarm reset is set for the corresponding alarm). Clicking on the buttons on the right hand side of the displayed event codes, one can select another code from the valid codes proposed:

5 3) Use A) A) The definition of the «remote monitoring» operator called by the SIA driver The remote monitoring company called by the SIA driver is defined as an operator in ALERT, which can then be added to all the called groups set for each alarms for which the remote monitoring company needs to be called. The call number of the remote monitoring company (the number dialed by the SIA modem) must be defined for this operator with the SIA type corresponding to the SIA driver previously installed. B) Alarm messages definition sent by the SIA driver The SIA driver uses short messages and long messages associated with alarms. The short message is used as the event identifier sent to the remote monitor. This can be a digital code, 1 to 4 characters long, which will be transmitted with the default event code defined in the SIA driver. The short message can also define an event code dedicated to the alarm. In this case, the short message starts with 2 alphanumeric characters followed by 1 to 4 digital characters. The 2 first characters set an event code to be chosen among the valid codes (check the default code list in the SIA driver configuration to know the valid code list). Example :

6 The short message «1234» will be transmitted as the event «UA1234 (standard configuration of the default event code) to warn of a technical alarm in the 1234 zone. The short message «GA1234» will be transmitted as a warning of a gaz alarm in the 1234 zone. The long message will be transmitted as an ASCII message associated to the event code defined in the short message. It must be known that the message may not be processed by the remote monitoring center. In this case the zoning defined by the defined short message list must be sent to the remote monitoring company so that the company can correctly process the alarms sent by ALERT.
