1 Datasheet Telecom and Compute Products Intel NetStructure SS7G21 and SS7G22 Signaling Servers Signaling Server SIU Mode These servers provide signaling connectivity for distributed, multisystem based telecom applications including TDM interfaces and IP transport to application servers. They offload the signaling processing from the application servers and can run a wide range of signaling protocols, including specific local variants, enabling worldwide deployment in a variety of applications. These units are ideal for solutions where a high throughput of signaling traffic is required. The SS7G21 and SS7G22 offer developers a fully integrated standards-based signaling platform providing carrier-grade qualities including fault resiliency, scalability, and interoperability, making them ideal platforms for developing enhanced telephony services. The demand for enhanced telephony services such as short message service (SMS), televoting, location-based services (LBS), local number portability, and 800 number routing, coupled with the emergence of new services such as color ring back tone (CRBT) and video, are driving an ever-increasing need for high-performance, high-density signaling servers. The Intel NetStructure SS7G21 and SS7G22 Signaling Servers are designed to meet the needs of telecommunication equipment manufacturers, system integrators, and service providers deploying these services worldwide. Supplied in a 2U carrier-grade chassis, these servers provide signaling connectivity for multichassis call control, wireless, or Intelligent Networking (IN) applications. A message-based protocol application programming interface (API) is presented over IP to the application hosts. This common API used across the Intel NetStructure signaling product suite provides developers with a familiar interface to the signaling server, therefore minimizing training needs and allowing for an easier migration of applications to a higher performance platform.

A driver on the application host sends and receives API messages over IP to and from the gateway. This architecture frees the application hosts to concentrate processor and memory resources on the application, making it ideal for high-performance distributed systems. Distributed Transaction Server The Distributed Transaction Server (DTS) module lets TCAP instances run on multiple application hosts. Routing to the hosts may be on an SCCP subsystem number (SSN) or TCAP transaction ID, letting hosts run different TCAP-user protocols such as GSM-MAP or INAP on different application hosts, and ensuring that transactions are traced back to the appropriate host. DTS allows for greater flexibility in system design, tailoring the loading of system elements to the particular application. System Resilience The signaling servers provide carrier-grade qualities including fault resiliency, scalability, and interoperability (see Figure 1) which are essential requirements for service provider applications. Two Intel NetStructure SS7G21 (or SS7G22) units can be configured to share the same SS7 point code or multiple point codes, providing fully resilient operation for the supported point codes. In normal operation, signaling can be load-shared across the two units. If one unit fails, the remaining unit handles all signaling. Additionally, IP resiliency can be enhanced by utilizing the 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet interfaces as teams, where there is an active and standby interface for a given IP address. Optionally, each signaling server can be configured with dual power supply units, providing a hot swap redundant configuration. 6 Datasheet Intel NetStructure SS7G21 and SS7G22 Signaling Servers Ordering Information The SS7G21 is fitted with Intel NetStructure SPCI4 or SPCI2S boards with a system maximum of 12 SS7 links and provides a form, fit, and function replacement for the Intel NetStructure SIU520 SS7 Signaling Gateway on a higher performance platform. An SS7G21 may be purchased with either 1, 2, or 3 SPCI2S boards (4 SS7 links, 2 T-1/E-1 interfaces, two V.11 serial ports per board) 1, 2, or 3 SPCI4 boards (4 SS7 links, 4 T-1/E-1 interfaces per board) The SS7G22 is fitted with Intel NetStructure SS7HDP boards and offers significantly greater performance and link density than the SS7G21. An SS7G22 may be purchased with 1, 2, or 3 SS7HDP boards (64 SS7 links, 4 T-1/E-1 interfaces per board) with a system maximum of 128 SS7 links. Both the SS7G21 and SS7G22 use the same 2U carrier-grade chassis and operate with the same software. For each one, many variants are available offering different numbers of signaling boards and power supply types (AC or DC).
