1 Compatibility Report NEC Infrontia Limited is pleased to verify that: Grandstream HandyTone 286 Has been tested for SIP Extension compatibility With the NEC Infrontia products listed below. SV8100/SL1100/SL1000 Test Completion Date: 29 th November 2010 Manufacturer: Grandstream Model: HandyTone 286 Firmware Version: NEC Infrontia Platform Tested: Software Version: Test Plan Version: SV8100 v Please refer to Configuration Notes below for further information. This guide should be used to configure the above device for connection to a SV8100, SL1100 or SL1000 PBX.
2 Description of SIP Extension The Grandstream HandyTone 286 analogue terminal adapter allows an analogue (POT/SLT) device to be connected to the telephone system using SIP. Recommended Software Versions SV8100: SL1100/SL1000: CPU V5.01 CPU V1.21 PCPro V5.00 PCPro V1.00 System Configuration An unused extension number should be assigned to an unallocated port on the telephone system. (Refer to PRG11-02 / Wizards > Advanced Items > IP/SIP > SIP Terminal Setup). The SIP device will register to this extension number. If authentication is required, a password should be entered in PRG / Wizards > Advanced Items > IP/SIP > SIP Terminal Setup. Authentication also needs to be enabled in PRG / Wizards > Advanced Items > IP/SIP > SIP Authentication. CODEC settings can be changed in PRG84-19 / Wizards > Advanced Items > IP/SIP > SIP Extension Codec. Further information on all the commands listed above for the systems is available in the Online Help in PCPro. SIP Extension Configuration The HandyTone can be configured using voice prompts (using a connected SLT), or via a web-based interface. The most common method of configuration is to use DHCP to issue the device with an IP address, and then use a Web Browser to configure the advanced settings. Step 1 Issue an IP address: 1. Connect the HandyTone to a network with a DHCP server 2. Go off hook on the SLT that is connected to the HandyTone and dial *** 3. A voice prompt will ask you which menu option you want to configure 4. Enter 02 (The IP address will then be announced) Step 2 Configure the advanced settings: 1. Open Internet Explorer (or other Web Browser) and type the device s IP address into the address bar 2. You will be prompted to enter a password. By default this will be admin 3. A menu will now appear and you can configure the advanced settings. 4. Note that most settings can be left at default in most circumstances, only the items listed below need to be changed In the example below, the HandyTone 286 is configured to register to the telephone system ( ) on port UDP/5070, as extension 250. These settings should match the configuration of your telephone system. Page 2 of 6
3 Item Name Description Example SIP Server The telephone system s IP address and SIP extension port :5070 (usually the IPLA address of the SV8100 of CPU port of the SL1100, SL1000). Outbound Proxy The telephone system s IP address and SIP extension port :5070 (usually the IPLA address of the SV8100 or CPU port of the SL1100, SL1000). SIP User ID The telephone number that the device should register as 250 Authenticate ID If authentication has been enabled on the telephone system, Password this password will be sent. Vocoder The preferred CODEC. It is recommended that all codec choices are set the same. PCMA (G.711) Voice Frames per TX The sample size (called VSI on the phone system) 2 Fax Mode If Fax relay (T.38) is configured on the telephone system this Pass Through /T.38 should be selected, otherwise Pass Through (G.711) should be used. Send DTMF DTMF tones can become distorted when transmitted over IP networks. This option enables the DTMF relay feature to resolve this issue. Via RTP (RFC2833) Step 3 - Registration 1. Click on Update, then Reboot. 2. The HandyTone should now try to register to the telephone system Page 3 of 6
4 Known Limitations *** cannot be dialled to the system as it is used to access the voice prompt interface on device Speech quality is poor when 10ms, 30ms, 50ms, 70ms or 80ms sample sizes are used with G ms sample size is recommended G.723 does not function correctly and should not be used. As it is not possible to send DTMF during ringing with Peer to Peer enabled, the user would be unable to dial service codes during ring back tone e.g. 1 (to switch between ringing and voice call) and 850 (to camp on) etc Blind transfer from the device is not possible when peer to peer is enabled on the system. Comments When logging into the HTML interface while logged into the voice prompt interface you will receive: You are not authorized to view this page. Logging into to the HTML interface via http sometimes fails with page not found. This seems to be a problem with the HTML interface. En-bloc dialling is used, which means that a timer is used to determine when all digits have been sent. The timer defaults to 4 seconds, but can be changed on the device. It is recommended that the # key is used to indicate end of dialling. The device supports SUBSCRIBE which means it can receive voice mail message waiting information. This option must be enabled via the HTML interface The device requires a 5 volt power supply; Power over Ethernet (PoE) is not supported. Further Support This document has been provided by NEC Infrontia to assist accredited engineers to install the third-party device specified onto an SV8100, SL1100, or SL1000 PBX system. This does not imply that NEC Infrontia recommends or provides technical support for this device actual product support must be obtained from the supplier or manufacturer of the third party device.
