3 Introduction This document explains Metasys Integrator Allen-Bradley application. This document should be used in conjunction with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5), which provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For information on Allen-Bradley equipment, see Allen-Bradley documentation (obtainable from an Allen-Bradley representative). Application Details The Metasys Integrator/Allen-Bradley application requires custom tables. These tables are generated in Milwaukee on a contract basis. They allow Allen-Bradley PLC/5, PLC/3, and SLC 5/04 to become integral parts of the Metasys or Metasys Companion Network. Once the Allen-Bradley 1770 KF-2 is connected to a Metasys or Metasys Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator, each of the Allen- Bradley PLC/SLCs can be accessed by the full complement of Metasys features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, point history, trend, and totalization. The 1770 KF-2 is connected to Metasys Integrator through the RS-232 port. Once connected, it is the interface between Allen-Bradley equipment and non-allen-bradley devices (such as Metasys Integrator). The Metasys Integrator allows status information to be transmitted between the Allen-Bradley devices and the Metasys Network. Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one 1770 KF-2. The PLC/SLCs are connected in a daisy chain configuration. Figure 1 shows Metasys Integrator connected to the 1770 KF-2. Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Allen-Bradley Custom Application 3

5 Component Requirements Metasys Release Requirements Companion Release Requirements Vendor Component Requirements To integrate Allen-Bradley equipment into the Metasys Network, you ll need: Allen-Bradley 1770 KF-2 Allen-Bradley PLC/5s, PLC/3s, or SLC 5/04s RS-232 cable for connecting the 1770 KF-2 to Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys Network) portable PC for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information into Metasys Integrator, and for running diagnostics cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator the correct vendor communication tables (.VCT file) to download into Metasys Integrator. [Contact Systems Products (SP) Advanced Applications for information on obtaining tables.] The Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5) contains specifications for all of the above components, except the RS-232 cable that connects the 1770 KF-2 to Metasys Integrator and the vendor communication tables (which are described in this document), and the Allen-Bradley equipment (which is described in Allen-Bradley documentation). To integrate Allen-Bradley equipment into the Metasys Network, you ll need the following: Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 6.0 or higher To integrate Allen-Bradley equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you ll need the following: Metasys Companion software Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 6.0 or higher Integration between Metasys Integrator and Allen-Bradley equipment has been tested with the equipment listed in Table 1. Changes to this equipment or integration of Allen-Bradley products not discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. For information on integrating other products, refer to the Custom Integration section of this technical bulletin. Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Allen-Bradley Custom Application 5

Refer to the Point Mapping Tables section of this technical bulletin. All Allen-Bradley equipment must be set up, started, and running properly before attempting to integrate with the Metasys Network. (The Allen-Bradley representative is responsible for operation of Allen-Bradley equipment.) The 1770 KF-2 baud rate must be set to 9600 baud. RS-232 cable distance between Metasys Integrator and the 1770 KF-2 can be a maximum of 50 feet. 6 Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Allen-Bradley Custom Application

9 Metasys Integrator Setup To set up Metasys Integrator, use a portable PC connected to the Metasys Integrator Terminal Port. Metasys Integrator setup involves: downloading the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) setting up the ports assigning network addresses to the controllers Table 2 below provides setup information specific to Allen-Bradley applications. For detailed procedures, see the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). Note: The 1770-KF2 timeout value must be larger than the Metasys Integrator timeout value. However, the 1770-KF2 timeout value is probably larger already, since its default value is larger than the Metasys Integrator timeout value. You only need to change the 1770-KF2 timeout value if it was decreased for some other reason. 11 Point Mapping Tables Allen-Bradley PLC Points The Metasys Integrator/Allen-Bradley application requires custom tables. These tables are generated in Milwaukee on a contract basis. Please use the System Integration Project Data Sheet to request a custom contract from the System Integration Team. Refer to the Custom Integration section of this technical bulletin for information on how to obtain this form. The following questions should be answered when you are requesting an Allen-Bradley custom Integration: What type of PLC/SLC? How many points? What type of points, and in which files? Will the Metasys system be used strictly for monitoring or for controlling also? Do you wish to incorporate any spare points into the interface? Allen-Bradley specifies that the Metasys system should not write to the output files directly but typically write to the Integer file where the logic chooses if the command will be executed. If using the Integer file, is the value signed or unsigned? In most cases, the customer should have the individual who is responsible for the PLC/SLC group the points together so that the Metasys system can do a block read and improve the performance of the system. For example, the Metasys system can then read 60 analogs in one message rather than reading 60 separate messages. Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Allen-Bradley Custom Application 11

13 Metasys Network Setup Metasys Network Setup is described in the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). This section contains details specific to Allen-Bradley applications. Mapping to a CS Object CS Object Mapping CS Object Attributes to AD and BD Objects If you are creating your own software model, combine the NPT (Network Point Type) and NPA (Network Point Address) to get the hardware reference for each point. For example, for the software model AI_1, combine the NPT AI with the NPA 1 to get a hardware reference of AI1. When you define the CS object, specify the: Display attribute, which is the one attribute whose value is displayed as the CS object s value in the summaries and at the NT NT Command attribute, which is the one attribute that can be commanded from the NT Note: Even if you are not using an NT to view or command an attribute, the Display and NT Command attributes must be defined in order to define a CS object. (The fields cannot be null.) To increase monitoring capabilities, you can map individual CS object attributes to AD and BD objects. This is important if an NT will be used as a monitoring device, since the NT displays only the CS object s Display attribute. It is also important for collection of Point History, Trend, or Totalization data. See the Analog Data (AD) Object Technical Bulletin (LIT ) and Binary Data (BD) Object Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Network Technical Manual (FAN 636) for more information.
