1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Amtelco RED ALERT with Avaya Aura TM Communication Manager Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe the configuration steps required for Amtelco RED ALERT to interoperate with Avaya Aura TM Communication Manager. Amtelco RED ALERT is an emergency notification system that can send notifications via phone, SMS, pager, and . The compliance testing focused on phone notifications from Amtelco RED ALERT, using the ISDN PRI trunks interface to Avaya Aura Communication Manager. Information in these Application Notes has been obtained through DevConnect compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DevConnect Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 23

2 1. Introduction These Application Notes describe the configuration steps required for Amtelco RED ALERT to interoperate with Avaya Aura TM Communication Manager. Amtelco RED ALERT is an emergency notification system that can send notifications via phone, SMS, pager, and . The compliance testing focused on phone notifications from Amtelco RED ALERT, using the ISDN PRI trunks interface to Avaya Aura Communication Manager. The alert notification scenarios can be pre-programmed with the contact information of the appropriate recipients. In the event of an emergency, an alert notification can be triggered using the Amtelco RED ALERT web-based interface, to send notifications to the pre-programmed recipients. The call notifications are initiated by Amtelco RED ALERT and sent to Avaya Aura Communication Manager using the ISDN PRI trunks. Each call notification can terminate to an internal destination on Avaya Aura Communication Manager, or tandem through Avaya Aura Communication Manager to an external PSTN destination Interoperability Compliance Testing The interoperability compliance test included feature and serviceability testing. The feature testing focused on verifying the following on Amtelco RED ALERT: Sending call notifications to internal station and internal hunt group destinations on Avaya Aura Communication Manager. Sending call notifications to external PSTN destinations. Proper detection and reporting of busy, no answer, and reorder conditions. Sending simultaneous call notifications. The serviceability testing focused on verifying the ability of Amtelco RED ALERT to recover from adverse conditions, such as disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the ISDN board Support Technical support on Amtelco RED ALERT can be obtained through the following: Phone: (800) Web: 2 of 23

3 2. Reference Configuration As shown in Figure 1, Amtelco RED ALERT is connected to Avaya Aura Communication Manager via ISDN-PRI trunks. There is a physical connection between the XDS Technologies H.100 PCI T1/E1/PRI board in Amtelco RED ALERT and the TN464GP DS1 Interface circuit pack in Avaya Aura Communication Manager. The Amtelco Scripted Application Supervisor can be used to verify the PRI board settings and to monitor the active notification calls. In the compliance testing, the Amtelco Scripted Application Supervisor was running on the Amtelco RED ALERT server. Figure 1: Amtelco RED ALERT with Avaya Aura Communication Manager 3 of 23

5 4. Configure Avaya Aura TM Communication Manager This section provides the procedures for configuring Avaya Aura Communication Manager. The procedures include the following areas: Verify Communication Manager License Administer DS1 circuit pack Administer ISDN trunk group Administer ISDN signaling group Administer ISDN trunk group members 4.1. Verify Communication Manager License Log in to the System Access Terminal (SAT) to verify that the Communication Manager license has proper permissions for features illustrated in these Application Notes. Use the display system-parameters customer-options command, and verify that the ISDN-PRI customer option is set to y on Page 4. 6 4.2. Administer DS1 Circuit Pack Administer a DS1 circuit pack to be used for connectivity to Amtelco RED ALERT. Use the add ds1 x command, where x is the physical slot number of the DS1 circuit pack. Note that the actual slot number may vary. Enter the following values for the specified fields, and retain the default values for the remaining fields. 7 4.3. Administer ISDN Trunk Group Administer an ISDN trunk group to interface with Amtelco RED ALERT. Use the add trunkgroup n command, where n is an available trunk group number. Enter the following values for the specified fields, and retain the default values for the remaining fields. Group Type: isdn Group Name: A descriptive name. TAC: An available trunk access code. 8 4.5. Administer ISDN Trunk Group Members Use the change trunk-group n command, where n is the trunk group number added in Section 4.3. Navigate to Page 5 of the TRUNK GROUP screen. Enter all 23 ports of the DS1 circuit pack into the Port fields, and the corresponding Code and Sfx fields will be populated automatically. 9 5. Configure Amtelco RED ALERT This section provides the procedures for configuring Amtelco RED ALERT. The procedures include the following areas: Launch Scripted Application Supervisor Verify XDS T1/ISDN board settings Launch RED ALERT web interface Administer recipients Administer alerts The configuration of RED ALERT is typically performed by Amtelco technicians. The procedural steps are presented in these Application Notes for informational purposes. This section assumes that the XDS T1/ISDN board and necessary routing information has already been configured Launch Scripted Application Supervisor From the PC running the Scripted Application Supervisor, select Start > All Programs > ecreator 2 > ecreatorsupervisor. The Scripted Application Supervisor screen is displayed, log in with the appropriate credentials. 9 of 23

10 5.2. Verify XDS T1/ISDN Board Settings In the subsequent Scripted Application Supervisor screen, select Ports from the top menu. The Board and Port Setup screen is displayed. Select the Board/Port Setup tab, and verify that there is an entry for the XDS T1/ISDN board, as shown below. Double click on the XDS T1/ISDN entry to view the associated properties. 10 of 23

12 The screen is updated with span information. Verify that the Framing and Line Code field values match the settings for the DS1 circuit pack in Section of 23

13 5.3. Launch RED ALERT Web Interface Access the RED ALERT web-based interface by using the URL in an Internet browser window, where ip-address is the IP address of the RED ALERT server. Log in with the appropriate credentials Administer Recipients The screen below is displayed. Select Recipient from the top menu. 13 of 23

14 The Recipient screen is displayed. Click New to add a new recipient. The Recipient Setup screen is displayed next. Select the General tab. Enter the appropriate values for Title, First Name, Last Name, Address, City, County, State, Postal Code, and Position. The User ID number is automatically generated by RED ALERT. Retain the default values for the remaining fields. 14 of 23

15 Select the Contact Methods tab, and click Add Phone to add a phone number for this recipient. Enter a descriptive Name. For the Number field, enter the dial string to reach the destination, which would include any necessary prefix as configured on the local Avaya Aura Communication Manager. In this case, the PSTN destination phone number is , and 91 is the required prefix. Note that the actual prefix may vary. For Ring Analysis, select Ring. After setting the Ring Analysis field, the Number field value is automatically prepended with a unique number that corresponds to the analysis type, followed by a colon, as shown below. Click Save. 15 of 23

16 Repeat this section to administer all desired recipients. For the compliance testing, two recipients were configured, as shown below. The Amtelco recipient resided on the external PSTN, and the Avaya recipient was a station destination resided on the local Avaya Aura Communication Manager Administer Alerts Select Alerts from the top menu, to display the Alerts screen. Click New to add a new alert. 16 of 23

17 The Alert Setup screen is displayed. Enter a descriptive Name, and retain the default values for the remaining fields. Select the Recipient tab. In the Recipient pane, check the desired recipients for this alert. The Alert Order pane will be automatically populated. Scroll down the screen and click Save (not shown below). Repeat this section to administer all desired alerts. 17 of 23

18 6. General Test Approach and Test Results The feature test cases were performed manually. Call notifications were initiated from the Amtelco RED ALERT web-based interface to different recipients on Avaya Aura Communication Manager and on the PSTN. Testing also included PSTN destinations that can generate busy, reorder, voice mail, and ring-no-answer conditions. The verification included proper emergency announcement playback, display of calling party information when appropriate, detection of failure conditions, and tear down of calls when applicable. The serviceability test case was performed manually by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the XDS Technologies H.100 PCI T1/E1/PRI board. All test cases were executed and passed. 7. Verification Steps This section provides the tests that can be performed to verify proper configuration of Avaya Aura Communication Manager and Amtelco RED ALERT. From the Amtelco RED ALERT web-based interface, select Alerts from the top menu to display the Alerts screen. Select the desired alert entry under Available Alerts, and click Trigger Alert. 18 of 23

19 The Alert Summary screen is displayed. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and click Trigger (not shown below) to trigger the emergency alert Verify Avaya Aura TM Communication Manager Verify the status of the ISDN trunk group by using the status trunk n command, where n is the trunk group number administered in Section 4.2. Verify that two trunks are in inservice/active state for the two notification calls, and all remaining trunks are in the inservice/idle state, as shown below. 20 7.2. Verify Amtelco RED ALERT From the Scripted Application Supervisor application screen, select Monitors from the top menu. The Monitors pane is displayed, as shown below. Select Active Calls. 20 of 23

21 In the Active Calls pane that is displayed, verify that there are two entries, corresponding to the two active notification calls Verify Recipient Telephones Verify that both recipients telephones are ringing simultaneously. Answer the notification calls on each recipient s telephone, and verify that an emergency announcement is played by Amtelco RED ALERT to the recipient. 21 of 23
