1 Software Announcement October 10, 2006 IBM System i Web Enablement made easy Overview Web Enablement for i5/os (5722-WE2) Web Enablement is enhanced to include Express Runtime Web Environments, which can significantly reduce the time necessary to set up your Web serving environment on i5/os. This feature can reduce the time to install software products and fixes and, in many cases, eliminate the need to acquire them individually. It also automatically configures the Web environment for your immediate use. i5/os (5722-SS1) iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web V5R4 supports the use of a Web application server integrated with i5/os. You can simply configure iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web without having to install or configure a Web application server (such as WebSphere Application Server or ASF Tomcat). You have immediate browser-based access to i5/os resources with reduced administration costs and reduced system resources. The i5/os operating system includes Web browser-based administration of your Web serving environment using the TCP/IP port 2001 of your System i5. Enhancements include: Advice on how to improve your Web server s performance. The Web browser-based interface quickly guides you through a simplified view of the many i5/os and Web server configuration options that you can change to improve performance. Support for monitoring the performance usage of your Web transactions across the various jobs running on your i5/os system. Web-based applications run multiple i5/os jobs such as the HTTP server job. Collections Services, a component of i5/os, is enhanced to collect performance data for WebSphere Application Server V6.0. iseries Access Family (5722-XW1) iseries Access for Web V5R4 supports the use of a Web application server integrated with i5/os. With this integrated Web application server, you can simply configure iseries Access for Web without having to install or configure a Web application server (such as WebSphere Application Server). You have immediate browser-based access to i5/os resources with reduced administration costs and reduced system resources. When you need WebSphere Application Server Express additional function not provided by the integrated Web application server, use the Express Runtime Web Environments feature to simplify setup and configuration of iseries Access for Web V5R4. IBM Workplace Services Express V2.6 (5733-WSE) Workplace Services Express V2.6 offers tools and the function to help improve employee productivity. Teams can share documents, collaborate on projects, and access the business applications and content they need to accomplish their jobs. These same capabilities can be extended to business partners and customers. Key prerequisites All enhancements require I5/OS V5R4 unless otherwise specified in the description section. 2 Description Web Enablement for i5/os (5722-WE2) A new Web Enablement feature, Express Runtime Web Environments for i5/os, is now available for easy installation of Web serving on i5/os. It is offered on CD and DVD media through new supply feature numbers. You can use Express Runtime Web Environments to quickly install and configure most Web serving environments on i5/os. Use it for setting up WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 for running your own J2EE and Web Services applications. The configured Web environment also includes iseries Access for Web V5R4, which is installed, configured, and running in WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 with minimal input from the i5/os administrator. An example RPG program is also provided and configured to show you how to use technologies and products such as WebSphere Development Studio Client, WebFacing, and WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS Technology. Express Runtime Web Environments includes simplified packaging, installation, configuration, and getting started aids for setting up Web serving on System i5. Key features of Express Runtime Web Environments include: Simplified packaging: Single set of CDs or DVD Web server products and fixes Sample Web application using technologies for Web browser support Installation from Windows workstation to i5/os as program product Easy setup of Web environments that includes: Single easy-to-use setup document that gets you started in minutes Easy-to-use wizard that helps with installation, requiring minimal instructions Automatic configuration of all Web servers, components, and applications Desktop icons and Web pages to guide you to immediate Web serving use, administration, and product information Complete Web server environment that includes: HTTP server for displaying Web pages WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 for dynamic Web pages, J2EE applications, WebFacing, and Web Services iseries Access for Web for browser-based access to i5/os resources (Web Environments does not include an iseries Access Family (5722-XW1) license.) Sample RPG application for using Web Services, WebFacing, and WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS Technology Web Enablement for i5/os support for Express Runtime Web Environments is planned to be available October 20, i5/os (5722-SS1) V5R4 iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web: With iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web, you can manage i5/os resources from a Web browser. This function uses a Web application server integrated with i5/os. A simple one-step configuration of iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web is all you need to use this Web application server. Use the integrated application server instead of WebSphere Application Server for easily getting started while minimizing administration costs and System i processing and memory requirements. These enhancements require PTF SI24255 to be installed. Planned availability is October 20, Web-based administration of your Web servers running on i5/os: This Web server administration, available on all i5/os systems via the TCP/IP port 2001, includes: Advice on how to improve your Web server s performance. The Web browser-based interface quickly guides you through a simplified view of the many i5/os and Web server configuration options that you can change to improve performance. Documentation includes explanations and recommendations of the configuration parameters and their settings. You can easily restore changed settings while you try different configurations for performance improvements. Use this support as an additional tool for improving your Web serving needs for HTTP, WebSphere Application Server, and portal and collaboration servers. Support for a simplified method of configuring SSL for use with the Web server administration. A new wizard is added to the Web server administration to configure SSL between a Web browser and Web server administration. Support for monitoring the performance usage of your Web transactions across the various jobs running on your i5/os system. Web-based applications use multiple i5/os jobs, such as the HTTP server job, WebSphere Application Server job, and DB2 server and ILE applications. The Web server administration supplies more information about these jobs, including CPU utilization to allow you to locate performance problems when running Web applications. These enhancements require PTF SF99114 to be installed. Planned availability is November 17, Collections Services, a component of i5/os, is enhanced to collect performance data for WebSphere Application Server V6.0. Collection Services collects performance data at specific time intervals, providing a snapshot of activity during the time interval. Data can be exported to a database. New database files support the WebSphere Application Server performance data. Refer to the iseries Information Center for information on the new database files and steps for configuring the data collection. A simple configuration of iseries Access for Web is all

Use the integrated Web application server instead of WebSphere Application Server for getting started with iseries Access for Web functions while minimizing administration costs and System i processing and memory requirements. Workplace Services Express V2.6 (5733-WSE) Workplace Services Express V2.6 offers powerful team collaboration and document management features that help teams work together more effectively. With this feature you can deploy team spaces. Documents, applications, and other information displayed on the page can be customized to meet the needs of specific teams or projects, or by the users themselves, to better match their individual work preferences. Workplace Services Express also includes integrated instant messaging and portal facilities. Workplace Services Express V2.6 uses the latest in Workplace technology and provides significant improvements in performance and scalability. With this new release, Workplace Services Express now includes Workplace Designer V2.6 Workplace Designer V2.6: Workplace Designer V2.6 is an intuitive, visual development tool that enables you to create and deploy components for Workplace Services Express applications. Script developers, Lotus Domino application developers, and the software developer community can easily create and deploy components to fit specific industry and business needs within Workplace Services Express. The intuitive, visual user interface, powerful scripting capabilities, and simplified component deployment make Workplace Designer V2.6 the fastest and easiest way to create and deploy new components for Workplace Services Express. Developers who use Workplace Designer do not need Java development skills. Developers with these skills can make use of Workplace APIs and other Java APIs exposed through Workplace Designer V2.6. System i5 Software Maintenance (SWMA) Renewal Update In July 2005, per processor SWMA for i5/os and selected products was introduced on POWER5 System i hardware. Beginning October 10, 2006, customers with Power 5 hardware who choose to renew SWMA for i5/os and selected products must maintain current SWMA coverage for the total quantity of processors licensed to i5/os on the machine. If there has been a lapse in i5/os SWMA coverage for a quantity of processors, at the next renewal date for i5/os SWMA on the machine, SWMA coverage needs to be acquired for all processors licensed to i5/os on the machine. The maintenance after license fee applies when SWMA has lapsed
