4 Sending a fax over the PSTN from the desktop Switchvox acts as a print server so users can just print from their favorite desktop program and then type in the number to where they want the fax delivered. 5 Sending a fax over the PSTN from an analog fax machine When using a standard fax machine, users can just enter the destination number, or they can use a fax feature extension. Fax feature extensions allow a copy of the outbound fax to be stored in the extensions s Sent Faxes folder for the user sending the fax. 8 Receiving Fax over PSTN to an analog fax machine Digium does not support this method of faxing and to ensure the highest success rate Digium encourages and supports receiving faxes as PDFs. With that disclaimer in mind, Digium has seen a good success rate for customers receiving faxes over the PSTN to an analog fax machine plugged into a Digium FXS Card. This method requires you to disable fax detection on the entire channel group which affects your ability to use one number (DID) to receive both normal and fax calls. 9 Receiving Fax over PSTN to an Analog Fax Machine and to the Desktop Please see previous page about receiving faxes to an analog fax machine. This method requires you to disable fax detection on the entire channel group which affects your ability to use a single number (DID) for normal calls and fax calls. If you want to receive a fax as a PDF, you will have to create an incoming route for a particular DID and treat all calls on that DID as a fax. 13 T.38 Faxing Support Digium has strived to be fully compatible with the T.38 fax protocol but some VoIP Providers and equipment vendors may not be compatible with Switchvox s T.38 implementation. Interoperability testing should be performed to make sure that faxing using your provider or vendor will work with your Switchvox PBX.
