Configuring IP Network Devices Part II: Transmission of LON over IP Using the i.lon 600 Network Devices: i.lon SmartServer (System Control Master) i.lon 600 (Connects the LON between locations) Barix Instreamer/Exstreamer (Transmit Audio over IP Between Locations) IPV4 Addresses: One(1) IPV4 address per network device (i.lon SmartServer, i.lon 600, Barix) Subnet (Network Mask) Default Gateway Connectivity Network Cables (1 for each network device and your laptop) Network Hub (See Option 1 below) Recommended to simplify testing prior to site install. Null Modem Cable** Connect to the i.lon s console port to discover the IP address **DE-9 (AKA DB-9) female null modem. They come as 9-pin and 15-pin. May need a USB to DE-9 converter if the PC does not have a DE-9 port. Audio: Headphones/portable speaker with 3.5mm jack for monitoring encoder/decoder audio Audio Source (phone, etc.) for testing encoder audio transmission 3.5mm to RCA Cable to connect speaker to audio over IP device Software: Web Browser for accessing Encoder/Decoders and i.lon 600 s. **Only use Internet Explorer when working with the i.lon 600 devices.** IP-852 Configuration Server App (Provided by Lencore, used for i.lon 600 network pairing) Putty/HyperTerminal or other Serial connection application to connect to the i.lon 600 Preparation (Setting IP Addresses) of Network Devices Option 1-Using a Hub: Create your static IP connection by attaching your computer and all network devices to be programmed to the hub. This enables IP programming of each device without having to plug and unplug devices readying the devices for pairing and testing. Note: Final i.lon 600 pairing is completed live on the client s network. Option 2-Laptop to a Single Device: Create a static IP connection to program/set up each network device individually Note: As in Option 1, Final i.lon 600 pairing is completed live on the client s network using the Configuration Server application. Before you begin please turn off your WIFI! 1 P a g e
Launch Internet Explorer (For compatibility, do not use alternate browsers.) 1. Create a static IP connection between your computer and the i.lon 600 (See end of guide for instructions on How to Make a Static IP Connection.) 2. Navigate to the i.lon 600 s IP address, the default is Select TCP/IP from the Menu After Selecting TCP/IP the screen below will appear displaying the current default IP settings 4. Enter your IP address, subnet mask and Default Gateway. Update only those three rows. 5. Submit your changes 6. Take a picture/screen shot of the updated IP information. In the event that you have issues logging in, you can verify the IP information now configured into the i.lon Select LonWorks from the menu on the left 2 P a g e
After selecting LonWorks from the menu, the screen below will appear 7. Towards the bottom of the screen you will see Self Install router as repeater Click Install 8. Next, using the Menu on the left select Reboot. The screen below will appear, click Reboot. Allow the i.lon to fully boot up (power light will be solid) before attempting to test the updated IP configuration. Once rebooted, update your static IP connection and log into the i.lon 600 with your browser and ensure that you able to connect using the new IP address. Do not skip this step, verify you can connect! Repeat this process for all i.lon 600 s you will be configuring. 3 P a g e
Pairing Your Devices: Using the IP-852 Configurator Application Now that the i.lon 600 s have been configured with the assigned IP address and tested we pair them over the network using the IP-852 Configurator program. (Windows) This procedure takes place while the devices are connected to the clients network. Launch the IP-852 Configurator program. You will see the screen below You may also see the Log window below. You can close it and reopen it at any time by clicking Show Log, or with Control L or via the View Menu. 4 P a g e
Click on the Channel Menu - Select New Channel The screen shot below shows the New Channel 5 P a g e
The screen shot below shows the renamed Channel MyProject Under the Network Menu option ensure that Enable is checked. Next, click on the MyProject Channel you created and select New Device. Do this for each Device that you need. 6 P a g e
The screen shot below shows two new Devices that were added the MyProject Channel. Notice the icons are orange. After you have updated the devices with their IP addresses they will turn green. The screen shot below shows two new Devices that were added and named A-Building and B-Building respectively. 7 P a g e
Right click (Or Double Click) on the first device and select Device Properties. Enter the IP address for that device and click Apply/OK. Repeat the process for all devices in the Channel. Once the Devices have their IP information their icons will, after a short time, turn green. Allow them the do so. The screen shot below demonstrates a successful connection. You are now ready to log into the SmartServer and view the installation across all connected locations. Green is good! The devices are paired. If the Device icons do not turn green, they are unable to find or pair with each other over the network and you will not be able to view the system across all locations. First ensure that you selected Enabled from the Network Menu. If Enabled is checked and you are certain your settings are entered correctly, the issue is may be with the host network and/or the IP information. Review the 8 P a g e
