1 Install New Java Client, For Workstations Currently without Java Following are instructions for installing the latest version of the Java client (GL ) on a workstation that does NOT currently have Java on it. Step 1: Go to the CCS web page at and select the link to Sirsi Resources found on the left side of the page. When the User Name/Password prompt is displayed enter supertech for the User Name and supertech (again) for the Password, as illustrated below. Step 2: Select the link for New Java client for PC without an existing Java client (GL3.1 version) to begin downloading the Java client software. Install NEW Java client 1 Created: April 2007

2 Step 3: The following File Download-Security Warning window will display, asking if you want to run or save this file. Select the Save option. Step 4: When you select the Save option in the above example, a Save As window will display. As you can see in the following example, we chose to navigate to the Downloads file and save the file, called fupd_jwf, with other downloaded files. 3 Step 5: The following download status window will be displayed while the file is being placed in the Download file. Note that the: Close this dialog box when download completes box is checked, so this window will automatically disappear when the process is complete. Step 6: When the downloading is complete, navigate to the Downloads file on your workstation. You can see in the example below that on my machine it s located at: C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\My Documents\downloads (typical). Double-click the executable file called fupd_jwf to begin installing the Java 3.1 client on this workstation. Install NEW Java client 3 Created: April 2007

4 NOTE: If your browser application (Netscape in this case) displays an Open File Security Warning like the one shown in this illustration, click the Run button to continue with the GL 3.1 client installation. Step 7: At this point your unzip application will begin decompressing the file to initiate the installation process. In this case, we re using the WinZip application, and because we have the: When done Unzipping Run: setup.exe selected as our default, the box will close when the unzipping process is done, and the InstallShield will be displayed. 5 During the first step in the actual installation process the blue InstallShield Welcome window displays. Click the Next button to proceed to the licensing agreement. Click Yes to accept the licensing agreement. Note that you are installing the WorkFlows GL version of the client. Install NEW Java client 5 Created: April 2007

6 Step 8: When the Choose Destination Location window displays, select the Browse option to display the following Choose Folder window. We recommend that you supply an extension to the path that will make it easy to recognize which version of the client has been installed. In the example below, we added \java3_1 to the default path offered by the installation procedure. Click the OK button to proceed. Install NEW Java client 6 Created: April 2007

7 Step 9: Because you added an extension to the path, the Setup window asks: Do you want the [new] folder to be created?... Click the Yes button. Step 10: At this point, InstallShield provides a pair of status bars that will keep you informed on the progress of the installation. When all files have been copied, a poorly worded Information window will display out of sequence. This message is trying to tell you that you ll have to restart WorkFlows to complete the installation of the client. But you can t actually do this until you ve responded to the next operation. Click OK on the Information window to proceed to the Setup complete window. Install NEW Java client 7 Created: April 2007

8 Step 11: Click the Finish button on the Setup Complete window. This will automatically end the basic installation process and you can now start WorkFlows with the Java 3.1 client. Step 12: Clicking the Finish button in the previous step automatically closes WorkFlows. In some cases this will take you directly to the WorkFlows Configuration window and you won t need to go to your desktop and click the Java client icon to restart WorkFlows. But if not, open WorkFlows using the normal procedure, making sure you select the new WorkFlows GL3.1J icon. Click OK to proceed to login with your normal WorkFlows User ID and PIN. 9 NOTE: During login, make sure the IP Address on the Configuration window is set to the correct address for the task at hand. Use for your day-today tasks in the production environment. Use for the test server. Step 13: In most cases (i.e. libraries outside the CCS firewall) an Automatic Update dialog window will display and ask if you want to: Update staff client? Click Yes to proceed. A progress window will appear indicating the percentage complete as the update proceeds. This may take awhile depending on server usage at the time of the update. When the progress window shows that this step is complete, a new dialog window displays that says: Staff client is exiting. Restart to install. Click the OK button to close this dialog window. 10 Step 14: Reopen WorkFlows once again, using the WorkFlows GL3.1J icon on your desktop and follow your normal login procedure. A progress window will display that tracks the percentage of the process that s been completed and will close when it reaches 100%. The GL3.1 version of the WorkFlows Java client should display at this point. Step 15: To verify that the upgrade was successful, once you re in WorkFlows select About from the Help dropdown menu The client version shown here should be GL (See illustration on next page.)
