2 Identifying a Gap Analyze and create a machine readable model which maps the CAL Data Model (Derived from HL7 RIM, constrained and projected using HITSP C83 Content Modules) to a canonic GUI data model (CGDM) and set of services suitable to promotion as common enterprise services for GUI usage on a variety for platform types (mobile, web, thick, future). Develop a prototype implementation (stubbed) of the services and demonstrate the usage of these services at in one or more applications (Web, Mobile). Ideally the GUI model would provide high quality data discovery and bind process suited to modern development tools and methodologies..."

4 Filling the Gap with the PIIM Canonic GUI Model (PCGM) The PCGM provides the roadmap and groundwork for developing a plugin that autogenerates code making it easier to connect objects to HL7 data. This allows developers to more efficiently develop and connect EHR-related services with a Graphic User Interface (or GUI) without having to learn HL7.

7 HL7 Version 3 (V3) RIM (Reference Information Model) HL7 is the widely used standard for data exchange among healthcare systems. Adoption of this standard would reduce, the custom interface programming and program maintenance that might otherwise be necessary. The HL7 V3 RIM was conceived as a universal reference model for healthcare interoperability covering the entire health care domain. As an essential part of the HL7 Version 3 object oriented development methodology, RIM provides an explicit representation of the semantic and lexical connections that exist between the information carried in the fields of HL7 messages. It specifies the grammar of the messages and, specifically, the basic building blocks of the language (nouns, verbs etc.), their permitted relationships and Data Types. As of 2010, as many as 25 domain specific models derived from the RIM had been identified and developed by various HL7 working groups and international affiliates.

Title: Super Duper Programmer Jason is working on this great new application that lets doctors scan all the facilities in their network to see which ones have a record on their patient(s). Jason is going to use CAL web services to get access to all the underlying EHR systems mapped to it.

19 Jason shares his find with his friends He sends his friend a link to the PCGM. His friend can implement the model to build a similar plugin/tool for the.net framework. On his spare time Jason contributes to making the solution more generic so that it can be used with other services. He is also looking forward to the drag and drop capability the new user interface is going to provide.
