12 BPEL Files Can Be Modified with XML Tools Prior to 9.0, visual information was stored in a hidden side file with a.vbpel extension. Any change to the BPEL would cause the.vbpel to get out of sync and be lost Version 9.0 replaces VBPEL file and stores all visual information in BPMNDi format in the extensibility area of the BPEL file Benefits: Enables BPEL XML editing modification using other XML without invalidating layout information Changes which are easiest to accomplish using a text based search and replace (such as changing namespace declarations) can be done with search & replace. Makes it easier to merge changes that have been made by different developers on the same BPEL process Note that no merging will be done automatically, but by getting rid of VBPEL and using a different approach to handling layout information, it should be easier to merge changes by hand or using XML diff and merge tools. 12

17 Migrating Process Instances to New Versions ActiveVOS version 9.0 extends the process migration capabilities to a large set of uses cases. Processes in which the topology has been changed, for example, adding new activities or introducing new containers are now eligible for migration. The migration process can be completely automatic or performed through the Admin API 17

20 New High Performance Dispatch Manager Can limit number of incoming service requests that are processed simultaneously (i.e. it provides message throttling) Prevents backend services from being overwhelmed with too many requests Prevents a burst of incoming traffic to one process from starving all others When an inbound request arrives: allow the request to be executed immediately, if the maximum number of concurrent requests hasn t been reached; queue the request, if the maximum number of concurrent requests has been reached, but the maximum queue length hasn t been reached; or, reject the request, if the maximum queue length has been reached. The dispatch queue is in memory and fast. If desired, it can be made persistent. 20 Handle traffic bursts without starving processes or overwhelming downstream services
