5 Abut DcAve VM Backup & Restre DcAve VM Backup & Restre ensures resiliency f service in the event f a disaster and prvides methds fr recvering the entire VM backup data r select VM file backup data. VM Backup & Restre ffers full and incremental backup capabilities fr VMs n the ESX/ESXi and vcenter hst servers and full backup capability fr VMs n the Hyper-V hst servers. VM Backup & Restre als enables users t build backup plans and schedules that fcus n frequent backup f high pririty VMs, which imprve backup peratins and strage efficiency. *Nte: If yu want t back up and restre VMware VMs, yu must manually deply the files in the VDDK flder. 7 Befre Yu Begin Refer t the fllwing sectins fr system and VM requirements that must be in place prir t installing and using VM Backup & Restre. AvePint s Testing Plicy and Envirnment Supprt Supprted Sftware Envirnments AvePint is cmmitted t testing against all majr versins and service packs f SharePint as well as the latest versins f Windws Server and SQL Server, as Micrsft annunces supprt and cmpatibility. *Nte: AvePint des nt recmmend r supprt installing DcAve n client perating systems. Supprted Hardware AvePint is cmmitted t maintaining a hardware agnstic platfrm t ensure that DcAve perates n cmmn Windws file sharing and virtualizatin platfrms. T ensure that DcAve is hardware agnstic, AvePint tests hardware that is intended t supprt SharePint and DcAve infrastructure, strage targets, and hardware-based backup and recvery slutins, as supprted by AvePint s partnerships. AvePint directly integrates with the fllwing platfrms: any Net Share, FTP, Amazn S3, AT&T Synaptic, Bx, Caring Strage, Cleversafe, DELL DX Strage, Drpbx, EMC Atms, EMC Centera, Ggle Drive, HDS Hitachi Cntent Platfrm, IBM Spectrum Scale Object, IBM Strwize Family, Micrsft Azure Strage, NetApp Data ONTAP, NFS, OneDrive, Rackspace Clud Files, and TSM. All ther hardware platfrms that supprt UNC addressable strage devices are supprted. *Nte: AvePint has ended the test and develpment fr Caring Strage and DELL DX Strage in DcAve since DcAve 6 SP7 CU1, as the prviders f these tw platfrms have stpped the platfrm maintenance. *Nte: Due t changes in the IBM Tivli Strage Manager API, DcAve 6 Service Pack 6 and later versins require that TSM Client versin is installed n the Cntrl Service and Media Service servers. *Nte: Mst f the hardware partnerships referenced in this guide are intended t make use f advanced functinality (such as snapsht mirrring, BLOB snapshts, indexing, lng-term strage, WORM strage, etc.), and are nt indicatins that any changes t the prduct are required fr basic supprt. 8 Supprted Backup and Recvery DcAve supprts BLOB backup strage accrding t the list f hardware platfrms abve. BLOB snapsht functin, hwever, is currently nly supprted n OEM versins and NetApp hardware. DcAve supprts SQL cntent and Applicatin database backups via the SharePint Vlume Shadw Cpy Service (VSS) n all Windws and SQL server platfrms listed abve. DcAve als supprts snapsht-based SharePint VSS n all hardware listed abve where the hardware partner has certified supprt with Micrsft. DcAve supprts applicatin and cnfiguratin server backups fr all the supprted sftware envirnments listed abve. DcAve 6 SP5 r later supprts VM backup via Hyper-V/VMWare fr the fllwing perating systems: Windws Server 2008 R2, Windws Server 2012, Windws Server 2012 R2, and Micrsft Hyper V Server 2012 R2. Cnfiguratin In rder t use VM Backup & Restre, the DcAve 6 must be installed and cnfigured prperly. Agents DcAve Agents are respnsible fr running DcAve jbs and interacting with the VMs. T back up and restre the VM n different types f hst servers, ensure that the DcAve Agents are prperly installed as fllws. ESX/ESXi and vcenter Agent Installatin Fr ESX/ESXi and vcenter hsts, the DcAve Agent must be installed in a separate server that can cmmunicate with the ESX/ESXi r vcenter thrugh a Web service. AvePint recmmends that the DcAve Agent is nt installed n the server intended t be backed up in rder t prevent an interruptin f Agent services while the backup ccurs. 9 Hyper-V Agent Installatin Fr Hyper-V hsts, the DcAve Agent must be installed n the VM Hst Server B as a lcal Agent. The DcAve Manager can be installed at any server, as lng as the Manager server can cnnect the Agent server. If yu have ther Hyper-V VM hst server, the VM Agent needs t be installed at the specific Hyper-V VM hst server. Fr VMs n Hyper-V hst server that is in the failver cluster, DcAve Agent must be installed n each nde f the failver cluster. Figure 2: Hyper-V Agent installatin. Required Permissins Refer t the sectin belw fr the required permissins t use VM Backup and Restre. 10 *Nte: If the VMs r the virtual hard disks are stred in a shared flder, the fllwing permissins are required: Read/Write permissin t the shared flder must be granted t the Agent accunt. Full Cntrl permissin t the shared flder must be granted t the user accunt f the Hyper-V hst server. Supprted Operating System fr Hyper-V Hst Server VM Backup and Restre supprts the fllwing English-language perating system editins fr the Hyper-V hst server: Windws Server 2008 R2 Windws server 2012 Windws Server 2012 R2 Micrsft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 Windws Server 2016 *Nte: The fllwing elements are nt supprted when backing up VMs in Hyper-V Failver Cluster: The shared disk VHDX files f the VMs hsted n Hyper-V hst server with Windws Server 2012 R2 perating system. The shared disk VHD Set files f the VMs hsted n Hyper-V hst server with Windws Server 2016 perating system. *Nte: If the perating system f yur Hyper-V hst server is Windws Server 2008 R2 r Windws server 2012, in rder t ensure that the VMs n this hst server keep functining prperly during the backup prcess, the fllwing must be in place: DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 11

13 The Backup (vlume snapsht) service is ffered t these Hyper-V VMs. The perating system fr these Hyper-V VMs supprts VSS snapsht. The Hyper-V Vlume Shadw Cpy Requestr service in these VMs is running during the backup prcess. Supprted ESXi Hst Server Versins VM Backup and Restre supprts the fllwing ESXi hst server versins: VMware ESXi 5.0 VMware ESXi 5.5 VMware ESXi 6.0 Supprted vcenter Hst Server Versins VM Backup and Restre supprts the fllwing vcenter hst server versins: VMware vcenter server 5.5 VMware vcenter server 6.0 Health Analyzer AvePint recmmends using Health Analyzer t check the prerequisites required t crrectly use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre. *Nte: Only the users in the DcAve Administratrs grup can use Health Analyzer. 14 Getting Started Refer t the sectins belw fr imprtant infrmatin n getting started with VM Backup & Restre. Launching VM Backup & Restre T launch VM Backup & Restre and access its functinality, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Lg in t DcAve. If yu are already in the sftware, click the DcAve tab. 2. Frm the DcAve tab, click Data Prtectin t view the Data Prtectin mdules. 3. Click VM Backup & Restre t launch this mdule. Figure 3: VM Backup & Restre user interface. Navigating DcAve DcAve mimics the lk and feel f many Windws prducts, making fr an intuitive and familiar wrking envirnment. While there are many windws, pp-up displays, and messages within DcAve prducts, they share similar features and are navigated in the same ways. DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 13

15 Belw is a sample windw in DcAve. It features a familiar, dynamic ribbn, and a searchable, cntent list view. Figure 4: Navigating DcAve. 1. Ribbn Tabs Allws users t navigate t the DcAve Welcme page and within the active mdule. 2. Ribbn Panes Allws users t access the functinality f the active DcAve mdule. 3. Manage clumns ( ) Allws users t manage which clumns are displayed in the list. Click the manage clumns ( ) buttn, and then select the checkbx next t the clumn name in the drp-dwn list. 4. Filter the clumn ( ) Allws users t filter the infrmatin in the List View. Click the filter the clumn ( ) buttn next t the clumn and then select the checkbx next t the clumn name. 5. Hide the clumn ( ) Allws users t hide the selected clumn. 6. Search Allws users t search the List View pane fr a keywrd r phrase. Yu can select Search all pages r Search current page t define the search scpe. *Nte: The search functin is nt case sensitive. 7. Management Pane Displays the actinable cntent f the DcAve mdule. User Interface Overview The VM Backup & Restre interface launches with the Backup tab active. This tab displays the dashbard and allws fr quick access t a list f the VM Backup & Restre features. The wrkspace shws explanatins fr the cntent f VM Backup & Restre that are used during the cnfiguratin f actins perfrmed in DcAve prducts. Cnfiguring Hst Prfile The hst prfile prvides the cnnectin t the hst server fr backing up and restring VM data managed by this hst server. In rder t perfrm a backup r restre jb t the VMs managed by the ESX/ESXi, vcenter, Hyper-V, r Hyper-V Cluster hst using VM Backup and Restre, yu need t first cnfigure ne r mre hst prfiles f the crrespnding hst type. Fr instructin n cnfiguring a hst prfile, refer t the DcAve 6 Cntrl Panel Reference Guide. Cnfiguring Devices and Setting Up Strage Plicies In rder t perfrm a backup jb using VM Backup & Restre, it is necessary t first cnfigure ne r mre physical devices and then set up a strage plicy. DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 15

17 When perfrming a backup jb, VM Backup & Restre can write t Net Share r IBM Strwize Family. *Nte: T perfrm successful VM Backup and VM Restre, the physical device cannt be created in the VMs yu are abut t back up and restre. *Nte: VM Backup and Restre nly supprts the strage plicies with a cncurrent strage device cnfigured. In additin, DcAve has the ability t treat multiple strage devices as a single lgical unit when saving backup data. This feature is especially useful fr very large backup plans, because many small devices can be cmbined. A lgical device must be defined befre creating a backup plan. Fr instructins n defining devices and setting up strage plicies, refer t the DcAve 6 Cntrl Panel Reference Guide. *Nte: The perfrmance f the restre jb that restres the backup data stred in the Cncurrent strage device will be mre efficient. 18 Perfrming a Backup Yu can use the Plan Builder t create a plan fr perfrming a VM backup. There are tw methds yu can select fr Plan Builder t create a plan: Using Wizard Mde Using Frm Mde Overview f Backup Types When cnfiguring a backup plan, there are tw backup types yu can select t perfrm a backup jb: Full and Incremental. The Full ptin backs up all f the selected data each time a backup is perfrmed. This ptin requires the mst strage space because, depending upn the size f yur VM server, each backup file can be large. Unlike incremental backup, all full backup files are independent f ne anther and d nt have any dependencies n ther back up data files, hwever, because each f the backups is cmprehensive, full backup jbs take the lngest time t cmplete. The Incremental ptin backs up nly the data that has been updated since the last backup, drastically reducing the size f the backup files created. Incremental backups als reduce executin time, allwing fr shrter backup windws. It is imprtant t nte, hwever, that in rder t recver all f the mst recent VM data frm an incremental backup, all f the backup files must be available. Each incremental backup file is an imprtant piece f the whle VM server backup. If ne f these files is nt available, the full VM server backup cannt be restred. Fr example, the fllwing three cylinders represent three backups and they are perfrmed in this rder Full Backup, Incremental Backup, Incremental Backup: Figure 6: One Full backup fllwed by tw Incremental backups. 1. The first Incremental Backup backs up the newly-added data in the blue perid. 2. The secnd Incremental Backup backs up the newly-added data in the green perid. *Nte: The Hyper-V VMs des nt supprt Incremental backup. If yu select the Incremental backup, yu can chse whether r nt t perfrm a Full backup fr the Hyper-V VMs in the selected scpe. DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 17

19 Using Wizard Mde T cnfigure a plan using Wizard Mde, cmplete the fllwing steps: *Nte: A red asterisk (*) marked next t a field in the DcAve GUI indicates a mandatry field. 1. Plan Name Enter a Plan Name and an ptinal Descriptin. Click Next. The Add VMs page appears. 2. Add VMs Add VMs t the backup list fr the backup plan. Click Add. In the pp-up Add VMs t the Backup List interface, cnfigure the fllwing settings: a. Hst Prfile Select a hst prfile. The VMs managed by the hst selected in the hst prfile will be laded as the backup scpe. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in Failver Cluster, select Hyper-V Cluster type as the hst prfile. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server and the snapshts are nt successfully created, the backup jb will fail. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server, the VHD and VHDX files that are stred in the rt path f a device will be nt be successfully snapshtted. T successfully back up the selected VMs, please d nt chse rt path t stre VHD and VHDX files. b. Agent Select an Agent fr cnnecting t the hst server in the selected hst prfile and executing the backup jb. *Nte: If the VM hst type f the selected hst prfile is Hyper-V, the Agent selected fr this hst prfile will be retrieved autmatically. The Select an Agent field will be disabled. *Nte: If yu select Hyper-V Cluster as the hst prfile fr backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in Failver Cluster, the selected Agent must be in the cluster that is specified in the selected hst prfile. c. VM Selectin Select ne r mre VMs in the laded tree. Expand the laded VM tree and then select the VMs yu want t back up. After expanding the tree, use the Search text bx and then click the magnifying glass ( specific VMs. ) buttn t find *Nte: When yu hver the muse ver ne f the VMs, the infrmatin abut the VM perating system and memry will appear. Fr a Hyper-V VM that has a Windws perating system installed, the VM that is pwered-n with VM setting DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 18

20 Integratin Services > Data Exchange selected will display the specific infrmatin f the perating system. *Nte: Fr the VMs n ESX/ESXi r vcenter hst servers, DcAve des nt supprt backing up the VM whse cnfiguratin file name r VM disk file name cntains # { }. *Nte: When selecting VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in the failver cluster t back up, the tree can nly be expanded t Rles f Virtual Machine type and Other type. *Nte: If the VMs n the ESX/ESXi r vcenter hst server have cnfigured SCSI Bus Sharing in the Virtual Machine Prperties > SCSI Cntrller with Virtual ptin r Physical ptin selected, these VMs cannt be snapshtted and backed up. Click Add t add the selected VMs t the backup list and g back t the Add VMs interface. Click Next when yu are finished. The Settings interface appears. 3. Settings Cnfigure the fllwing settings: Strage Plicy Select the strage plicy fr the backup data in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list r create a new strage plicy by clicking the New Strage Plicy link in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list. *Nte: Only the strage plicies with a cncurrent strage device cnfigured are supprted and can be laded in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list. Yu can view the physical device that cntains the backup data in the Jb Details f backup jb. A strage plicy is used t cnfigure a set f rules fr string backed up data. It als supprts cnfiguring the retentin rule t prune the data backed up by VM Backup and Restre and delete r mve the pruned backup data. *Nte: The retentin rule will nt ccur if Differential backup is cnfigured as the retentin trigger: Differential backup is nt supprted by VM Backup and Restre. 21 Click Next when yu are finished. The Schedule interface appears. 4. Schedule Selectin Select a scheduling ptin. N Schedule Select this ptin t make the jb nt run n a particular schedule. Cnfigure the schedule myself Select this ptin t cnfigure a custmized schedule, and run the backup jb by that schedule. Click Add Schedule t set up a schedule. The Add Schedule windw appears. Fr mre infrmatin abut adding a schedule, refer t Backup Schedule. After cnfiguring the schedule fr the backup jb, click Calendar View t view the scheduled jbs by Day, Week, r Mnth. Multiple schedules can be added and displayed in the Summary table. Click the delete ( ) buttn t delete a schedule. Click Next after yu are finished. The Overview interface appears. 5. Overview Review and edit the plan selectins. T make changes, click Edit t the right f the rw. This links t the crrespnding setting page, allwing yu t edit the cnfiguratin. 6. On the lwer-right sectin f the screen, r n the ribbn, click Finish t save the cnfiguratin f the plan withut running it r Finish and Run Nw t save the cnfiguratin and then run the saved plan immediately. The backup plan is nw listed in Plan Manager. Backup Schedule Cnfigure the fllwing settings t add a new backup schedule. 1. Optins Select a backup type frm the drp-dwn list. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t the Overview f Backup Types sectin. Full Backup A full backup f the selected surce. Incremental Backup A partial backup; backs up nly the data that has been added since the last backup (whether it s full r incremental). *Nte: Fr best results when cnducting high frequency backups, it is recmmended that yu use incremental backups. Incremental backups save time and strage space by backing up nly the differences between incremental backups r an incremental backup and a full backup, instead f backing up the entire surce lcatin. *Nte: The Hyper-V VMs des nt supprt incremental backup. If yu select the incremental backup, yu can chse whether r nt t perfrm a Full backup fr the Hyper-V VMs in the selected scpe. DcAve 6 VM Backup and Restre 20

22 2. Backup Hyper-V VMs Chse whether r nt t perfrm a Full back fr the Hyper-V VMs in the selected scpe. Select Yes t perfrm a Full backup n the Hyper-V VMs; select N t skip the backup f the Hyper-V VMs. This field nly appears when the backup type yu selected is Incremental Backup. 3. Type Select the interval at which the backup ccurs: By hur, By day, By week, r By mnth. 4. Schedule Settings Set up the frequency fr the scheduled backup jb. If yu select the type as By hur, By week, r By mnth, yu will have the ptin t check the Advanced checkbx t cnfigure mre settings fr the frequency. Range f Recurrence Chse ne f the fllwing ptins t cnfigure when t start and stp running the recurring schedule: N end date The jb is run n the schedule indefinitely. End after ccurrences The jb stps running after the entered amunt f ccurrences. End by The jb stps repeating n schedule n the date yu select. Advanced Predefined Scheme Settings The fllwing advanced settings are available fr cnfiguring a predefined scheme: By Hur By Week Specify prductin time: Frm t Run the backup jb n the selected prductin time. Select time belw Select the time yu want t run the backup jb. T add several run jb times, click Add. Run every weeks; On Select which days f the week t run the plan n, and enter after hw many weeks fr it t recur. By Mnth On day f Select the day and the mnth t run the backup jb. Fr example, set this ptin as On day 3 f January, and the backup is run n 3rd January. Day f every mnths Select the day and the mnth interval t run the backup jb. Plan Name Enter a Plan Name and ptinal Descriptin. 2. Add VMs t the Backup List Add VMs t the backup list fr the backup plan. Click Add in the Create a New Plan interface, the Add VMs t the Backup List interface appears. Cnfigure the fllwing settings: a. Hst Prfile Select a hst prfile. The VMs managed by the hst selected in the hst prfile will be laded as the backup scpe. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in Failver Cluster, select Hyper-V Cluster type as the hst prfile. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server and the snapshts are nt successfully created, the backup jb will fail. *Nte: When backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server, the VHD and VHDX files that are stred in the rt path f a device will be nt be successfully snapshtted. T successfully back up the selected VMs, please d nt chse rt path t stre VHD and VHDX files. b. Agent Select an Agent fr cnnecting t the hst server in the selected hst prfile and executing a backup jb. *Nte: If the VM hst type f the selected hst prfile is Hyper-V, the Agent selected fr this hst prfile will be retrieved autmatically. The Select an Agent field will be disable. *Nte: If yu select Hyper-V Cluster as the hst prfile fr backing up VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in Failver Cluster, the selected Agent must be in the cluster that is specified in the selected hst prfile. Strage Plicy Select the strage plicy fr the backup data in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list r create a new strage plicy by clicking the New Strage Plicy link in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list. *Nte: Only the strage plicies with a cncurrent strage device cnfigured are supprted and can be laded in the Select a strage plicy drp-dwn list. A strage plicy is used t cnfigure a set f rules fr string backed up data. It als supprts cnfiguring the retentin rule t prune the data backed up by VM Backup and Restre and delete r mve the pruned backup data. *Nte: The retentin rule will nt ccur if Differential backup is cnfigured as the retentin trigger: Differential backup is nt supprted by VM Backup and Restre. The backup plan is nw listed in Plan Manager. Cnfiguring VMCnfiguratin.xml File Yu can make the fllwing custm cnfiguratin by editing the VMCnfiguratin.xml file. Cnfiguring Prvider in Cnfiguratin File This is used fr VMs n the Hyper-V hst server. Edit the VMCnfiguratin.xml file t cnfigure a prvider fr making a snapsht f the disk: 1. Open the VMCnfiguratin.xml file with ntepad. 2. Mdify the default infrmatin f <CnfigPrvider></CnfigPrvider> nde: In the PreferPrvider Path ="" attribute, enter the value f the disk t be snapshtted; In the PrviderId ="" attribute, enter the value f the specified prvider. *Nte: Yu can als add PreferPrvider Path ="" and PrviderId ="" attributes in the <CnfigPrvider></CnfigPrvider> nde fr entering values f the prvider used fr snapshtting the disk. 26 Cnfiguring the Maximum Size f Backed up Data Blck Edit the maximum size f the entire backed up data blck t be transferred t the destinatin in the VMCnfiguratin.xml file: 1. Open the file with Ntepad and find the <Transfer></Transfer> nde. 2. Enter the desired value f the <Data MaxBlckSize="" /> attribute, and the unit f size is MB. *Nte: The maximum limit f the data blck size is 2 GB, s the maximum value f this attribute is Backing Up a VMDK File with VDDK Multiple Threads Backing up a VMDK file thrugh VDDK multiple threads will imprve perfrmance f VM Backup. 1. Open the file with Ntepad, and find the <Backup></Backup> sub nde under the <VMware></VMware> nde. 2. Find the fllwing attributes: <VDDK MultipleThreadEnabled="true" MaxThreadCunt="3" AdvancedTransprtEnabled="true" TransprtMdes="" /> 3. Enter values f the attributes refer t the instructins belw: VDDK MultipleThreadEnabled Enter true r false as the value t define whether r nt t enable VDDK multiple threads. The default value is true. MaxThreadCunt Enter an integer between ne and five as the value t define hw many threads will run. The default value is three. Hwever, the maximum value depends n yur envirnment. Yu can perfrm VM Backup with multiple threads t test which value will get t the best perfrmance. AdvancedTransprtEnabled This attribute is used t define advanced transprt mdes. It is recmmended t enter true as the value fr supprting SAN (Strage Area Netwrk). Entering false will cmpulsrily use the NBD transprt methd (the methd with least perfrmance). TransprtMdes This attribute will take effect if the value f the attribute AdvancedTransprtEnabled is true. It is recmmended t leave empty value fr this attribute, and the VDDK will chse the best transprt methd frm the rder f: SAN Transprt, HtAdd Transprt, and NBD Transprt. Fr details n the transprt methds, refer t Virtual Disk Prgramming Guide n page 23. Yu can als set the transprt methds as the value f the TransprtMdes attribute, and use : t separate them. HtAdd Transprt This methd is available when the Agent used t execute backup and the backed up VM must be n the same hst server, r the backed up VM and the hst server that the Agent used t execute backup are in the same datacenter, and they use the same datastre. Cnfiguring Backup Optin fr Backing Up VMs with Independent Disks This is used fr VMs n ESX/ESXi and vcenter hst server. If there are independent disks n VMs, yu can cnfigure backup ptin thrugh editing VMCnfiguratin.xml file: 1. Open the file with Ntepad, and find the <Backup></Backup> sub nde under the <VMware></VMware> nde. 2. Find the attribute IndependentDiskBackupOptin, and refer t the sectin belw fr definitins f the values: 0 The default value is 0, and the VMs with independent disks will fail t be backed up. After the backup jb is finished, yu can view details f the independent disks in Jb Details > Virtual Machine Details. 1 Mdifying the value t 1 and entering false as the value f the AdvancedTransprtEnabled attribute will back up the independent disks. If there are independent disks and persistent disks n the VM, turn ff the VM befre perfrming the VM Backup. Otherwise, the backup may fail due t the disks used by the running VM. Nte that when perfrming an Incremental Backup fr a backed up VM with independent disks, the independent disks will be fully backed up. *Nte: VM Backup and VM Restre supprt backing up and restring the data added t the independent disk befre the disk is cnfigured as Nnpersistent independent disk. 2 Mdifying the value t 2 will skip backing up the independent disks, and the skipped disks will nt be restred. In the Plan Manager interface, all f the created plans are displayed in the main display pane. In this interface, yu can change the number f plans displayed per page. T change the number f the plans displayed per page, select the desired number frm the Shw rws drpdwn menu in the lwer right-hand crner. T srt the plans, click the clumn heading such as Plan Name, Descriptin, Plan Grup, Farm, Last Mdified Time and Platfrm Type. Perfrm the fllwing actins in the Plan Manager interface: View Details Select a plan and click View Details. The backup scpe and the plan settings are displayed n the View Details interface. When yu want t change the ndes yu selected r want t mdify the backup settings, click Edit n the ribbn. Edit Select a plan and click Edit n the ribbn t change the cnfiguratins fr the selected plan. Yu can change the ndes yu selected and mdify the VM Backup plan settings. *Nte: If the hst type f the hst prfile in the plan yu are abut t edit is ESX/ESXi and the ESX/ESXi VMs selected in this plan are currently managed by the vcenter hst server, update the specific hst prfile by changing the hst server type frm ESX/ESXi t vcenter first. After editing the selected plan, n the lwer-right sectin f the screen r n the ribbn, click: Save t save the cnfiguratin f the plan withut running it. Save As t save the cnfiguratin fr anther plan. Optin Select a backup type frm the drp-dwn list. Fr mre infrmatin, see Overview f Backup Types. Full Backup A full backup f the selected surce. Incremental Backup A partial backup; backs up nly the cntent that has been updated since the last backup, whether it s Full r Incremental. *Nte: The Hyper-V VMs des nt supprt incremental backup. If yu select the incremental backup, yu can chse whether t perfrm a full backup fr the Hyper-V VMs in the selected scpe. *Nte: Fr best results when cnducting high frequency backups, it is recmmended t use incremental backups. Incremental backups save time and strage space by backing up nly the differences between incremental backups r an incremental backup and a full backup, instead f backing up the entire surce lcatin. Backup Hyper-V VMs Chse whether t perfrm a full back fr the Hyper-V VMs in the selected scpe. Select Yes t perfrm a full backup n the Hyper-V VMs; select N t skip the backup f the Hyper-V VMs. This field nly appears when the backup type yu selected is Incremental Backup. 30 Perfrming a Restre A VM restre can be perfrmed bth n the VM data backed up using DcAve s VM Backup and Restre and Platfrm Backup and Restre. VM Restre can perfrm a full recvery slutin as well as a targeted recvery slutin using the fllwing restre mdules: Restring VM Restring File Restring VM A VM restre jb prvides a full recvery slutin fr restring the entire backup data f the backed up VMs. The tw restre types are: In place restre Restre the selected VM backup data t its riginal hst server. Out f place restre Restre the selected VM backup data t anther hst server. *Nte: Securities f the VMs n ESX/ESXi r vcenter hst server cannt be restred by ut f place restre. Selecting Backup Data t Restre Tw restre methds are prvided fr selecting the backed-up data: Time-based restre and Object-based restre. Use Time-based restre t select a backup jb n the calendar, and then select bjects t restre the backed-up data. Use Object-based restre t restre the backed-up data by selecting the specific bject and selecting which backup jb t restre it frm. Refer t the sectins belw fr details. Time-Based Restre The Time-based restre is designed t find the backed-up jbs first, and then select the bjects t restre the backed-up data. Cmplete the fllwing steps t cnfigure a time-based restre: 1. On the Restre tab in VM Backup and Restre, click Restre n the ribbn. The Restre interface appears. Click Restre VM in the Manage grup and the Restre Methd interface appears. 2. Restre Methd Select the Time-based restre ptin, and then click Next. The Jb Selectin interface appears. 3. 31 Yu can als cnfigure settings in the Set Filter field t limit the scpe f the backup jb. Filter by Jb Filter the backup jb by jb infrmatin. Yu can filter the backup data in the Filter by Jb area by backup jb mdule and backup type f the backup jb by selecting crrespnding checkbx in the drp-dwn list. By default, VM Backup Jbs and All Types are selected. Filter by Plan Filter the backup jb by plan infrmatin. Yu can filter the backup data in the Filter by Plan area by plan name by selecting crrespnding checkbx in the Plan Name drp-dwn list. By default, All Plans is selected. Filter by Time Range Filter the backup data by jb cmpleted time range. The All jbs selectin lists all backup jbs whenever the jb cmpleted, while Backup Jbs start within filters the backup jbs which are cmpleted in the specified time range. By default, Backup jbs start within Last 7 Days is selected. After yu finish cnfiguring the Set Filter drp-dwn lists, click Filter. All the backup jbs that meet the filter rules are listed in the calendar. Click Reset, and then the jbs with all backup types that have been started within the last 7 days are available in the calendar. When yu are finished, click Next. The Data Selectin page appears. 4. Data Selectin Select the backed up data t be restred. Expand the laded VM backup data tree and select the VMs t restre. Click Next when yu are finished and the Restre Type interface appears. *Nte: Fr the backed up VMs managed by the ESX/ESXi r vcenter hst server, yu can cnfigure t restre the Security settings by selecting the applicable checkbxes next t the fllwing backup levels in the tree: Hst, Resurce Pl, vapp, and VM. *Nte: Fr the backed up VMs managed by the vcenter hst server, DcAve supprts restring the Alarms (fr mnitring VMs) defined t the hst server, the Resurce Pls, and the VMs when perfrming an in place restre. Nte that the Alarms defined t the VMs will nly be restred when the backed up VMs d nt exist in the surce and there are n Alarms with the same name in the surce, r when yu select Overwrite as the cnflict reslutin fr an in place restre. When perfrming an ut-f-place restre, DcAve nly supprts restring the Alarms defined t the VMs. If the Alarms that are defined t the backed up VMs are enabled, the Alarms f the restred VMs are still enabled. *Nte: T successfully perfrm a VM Restre fr the ESX/ESXi VMs backed up frm a plan that emplys the ESX/ESXi type hst prfile, if these VMs are currently managed by the vcenter hst server, they must be backed up again. Refer t Restre Type t prceed. Object-Based Restre The Object-based restre is designed t first lcate the specific VM bject, and then select which backup jb t restre it frm. Cmplete the fllwing steps t cnfigure an bject-based restre: 1. On the Restre tab in VM Backup and Restre, click Restre n the ribbn. The Restre interface appears. Click Restre VM in the Manage grup and the Restre Methd interface appears. 2. Restre Methd Select the Object-based restre buttn, and then click Next. The Object Search interface appears. 3. Object Search Cmplete the fllwing cnfiguratins: Backup Jb Mdule Select a backup jb mdule frm the Backup Jb Mdule drp-dwn list. The fllwing backup jb mdules are supprted: VM Back jbs and Platfrm Backup jbs. Backup Time Range Select the backup time range t limit the search scpe frm the Backup jbs within drp-dwn list. Yu can select the backup jbs perfrmed within the current week, the last week, the current mnth, the last mnth, r the custmized time range. Search Filter Cnfigure the filter cnditins t limit the scpe f the backup jbs, if necessary. Select an bject level frm the drp-dwn list befre the Add Criteria buttn. Click Add Criteria t add a cnditin rule. Select Cntains t find the bjects that cntains the entered cnditin, r select Des Nt Cntain t find the bject that des nt cntains the entered cnditin, r select Equals t find the bject that equals t the entered cnditin, and then enter the required infrmatin in the fllwing text bx. *Nte: Depending n the filters yu enter, yu can change the lgical relatinships between the filter rules. There are currently tw lgical relatinships: And and Or. By default, the lgic is set t And. The And lgical relatinship means that the cntent which meets all the rules will be filtered and included in the result. 34 In Place Restre T use an in place restre t restre the VM back-up data t its riginal lcatin, cmplete the fllwing steps. *Nte: When restring ESX/ESXi VMs in the vcenter hst cluster, please pay attentin t the fllwing cnditins: If the riginal hst in the cluster is nt available and there is anther hst having all f the datastres used by the VM, the VM will be restred t this hst in the cluster. If the vcenter hst cluster has cnfigured the VM-Hst Affinity rules between VM DRS (Distributed Resurce Scheduler) grup and hst DRS grup, DcAve uses the names f the VM DRS grup t check if the VM DRS grup where the backed up VM resides still exists. If the VM DRS grup still exists, the VM will be restred t this VM DRS grup and the rule will take effect n the restred VM. If the VM DRS grup des nt exist, skip restring the VM t the VM DRS grup and the rule will nt take effect n the restred VM. *Nte: When restring VMs stred n the datastres that are in the vcenter datastre cluster, please pay attentin t the fllwing cnditins: Des nt supprt backing up and restring the VMs with the same name stred in the same datastre cluster. Supprt restring datastre rules f VMDK anti-affinity and VMDK affinity fr virtual disks; des nt supprt restring datastre rules f VM anti-affinity r VM affinity fr VMs. 1. Restre Type After cnfiguring the restre as described in the previus Time-Based Restre r Object-Based Restre sectins, cnfigure the fllwing settings: Restre Type Select the In place restre ptin buttn. By default, the Agent specified in the hst prfile selected fr the backup plan is selected. *Nte: If the VM yu are abut t restre resides in the Hyper-V hst server, the Agent drp-dwn list will be greyed ut and yu can nly use the default Agent t execute the restre jb. *Nte: When restring VMs in the Hyper-V Failver Cluster, the Agent must be in the cluster that is specified in the Hyper-V Cluster hst prfile. 2. 35 Fr the ESX/ESXi VMs, vcenter VMs, and ESX/ESXi VMs in vcenter hst cluster, if the VM cnfiguratin file f the surce VM is under the same full path as an existing VM cnfiguratin file in the destinatin, it is cnsidered a cnflict. Fr the VMs stred n the datastres that are in a vcenter datastre cluster, if there is a VM whse name is the same as the backed up VM in the datastre cluster, it is cnsidered as a cnflict. Fr the Hyper-V VMs, if the GUID f the surce VM is the same as that f a VM in the destinatin, it is cnsidered a cnflict. Skip D nt restre the surce cnflicting VM, and keep the destinatin VM intact. Overwrite Delete the cnflicting VM in the destinatin, and restre the backed up VM. Hyper-V Parent Disk Cnflict Reslutin Define the Hyper-V parent disk cnflict reslutin behavir. If the Hyper-V parent disk in the surce is under the same full path as an existing Hyper-V parent in the target, it is cnsidered a cnflict. Skip D nt restre the surce cnflicting Hyper-V parent disk. The setting will nly appear when yu select a Hyper-V Cluster type hst prfile. *Nte: If the disks, which are used t stre the VM data, have a binding rle in the destinatin, the VM will be restred t the rle. Destinatin VM Lcatin This text bx displays the default destinatin VM lcatin path autmatically after the hst prfile selectin, and yu can als custmize it accrding t yur situatin. Virtual Hard Disk Lcatin Cnfigure the virtual hard disk file mapping. The default destinatin file path is filled int the text bx autmatically after the hst prfile selectin, and yu can als chse t custmize it accrding t yur situatin. If the file mapping cnfiguratin table is hidden, click Details t view the lcatin details. *Nte: When building an ut-f-place restre plan fr restring the VMs n the Hyper-V hst server that is in Failver Cluster, please pay attentin t the fllwing knwn issue: i. Disk 1 and Disk 2 are tw shared disks n the same hst in the destinatin cluster, and they are in different rles. ii. In the Restre VM wizard, select Disk 1 f Rle 1 as the destinatin VM lcatin; select Disk 2 f Rle 2 as the virtual hard disk file lcatin. iii. After successfully restring the VM, the VM wn t be added t the cluster. Rt Cause: The VM is binding with the shared disks, if we frce t mve the VM t Rle 1 in the destinatin cluster, the binding Disk 2 will be mved t Rle 2, causing the disappearance f VMs in Rle 2. Wrkarund: Make sure that the shared disks are in the same rle if yu are abut t restre and add the VM t the destinatin cluster. Netwrk Adapter Select the virtual switch frm the drp-dwn list. The All jbs selectin lists all backup jbs whenever the jb cmpleted, while Jbs start within filters the backup jbs which are cmpleted in the specified time range. By default, Backup jbs start within Last 7 Days is selected. After yu finish cnfiguring the Set Filter drp-dwn lists, click Filter. All the backup jbs that meet the filter rules are listed in the calendar. Click Reset, and then the jbs with all backup types that have been started within this week are available in the calendar.
