1 Course Name: Intro to Ruby Course Number: WITP 312 Credits: Classroom Hours: 1.2 CEU s (Continuing Education Units) 12 Hours (i.e. Mon Thurs 5 9PM or Sat Sun 8AM 5PM) Flex Training - Classroom and On-Line Training: 12 Hours Instruction. This is a flex training program. Student can have option of working in class or completing assignments from home (or a blend of in classroom and at home). Itemized Breakdown of Tuition and Fees: Tuition: $795 The tuition only covers administrative costs and nothing else of value is provided. Other Fees: none Prerequisites: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript courses offered at MCC, or equivalent courses, and or work related experience. Recommended but not required: Intro to Programming offered at MCC, or equivalent courses, and or work related experience. Course Description: This course is a beginning level course and introduces the fundamentals of Ruby, the popular object oriented open source programming language. Course will include basic data types, demonstrating Ruby's control structures (loops, iterators, conditionals, and code blocks) and showcasing the elegant syntax structure of the language. Variable scope and methods, arguments, and return values to write efficient code will be discussed and demonstrated. After covering the fundamentals, students will learn how to define classes and explores OOP concepts, including instances, attributes, access control, and inheritance. Target Audience: Any student who meets the listed prerequisites can take this class. This includes students with a background in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or other software programming language (C, C++, Java), Internet Technology specialists, web design students, small business owners, contractors, anyone involved in Internet Technology, Front end development, back end development, Web 1
