2 Introduction to Computer Systems Understand the role of software in a computer system. Basic Computer Processing Software Categories Digital Computers Binary Numbers Unit 1 Hardware Components Hello World with BlueJ Identify basic computer hardware and explain what it does. Use the integrated development environment software BlueJ to write and run Java programs. Computer Architecture Input/Output Devices Main Memory & Secondary Memory Central Processing Unit Using the software BlueJ Introduction to Java (13 days) Programming in Java Introduce the Java programming language and use it to write computer programs. Structure of a Java Program Comments Main Method Output Write Java source code to create basic output to the screen, including indenting, quotation marks, a backslash symbol, and concatenation. Using print vs println Escape Sequences (tab, new line, quotation marks, backslash) Concatenation vs Addition Data Types and Identifiers and Know and apply the four main Java primitive data types with good identifiers and constants, including declarations and initializations. Do simple arithmetic in Java, based on data type, including the remainder operator and use of assignment statements. Identifiers and Constants Primitive Data Types (int, double, char, boolean) Declaring and Initializing Java Arithmetic (+,, *, /, %) Assignment Statement Using Math in Java
3 Formatting Output Use the Java Decimal Format Class to mat numbers (rounding, commas, dollar sign). Decimal Format Class Inputs Using the Keyboard Class Use the Java Keyboard Class to get input from the program user via the keyboard in a various instances. Reading Input with Keyboard (including Strings) Unit 2 Java Essentials (14 days) Using the Math Class Working with the String Class Relational Operators Use the Java Math Class to work with pi, exponents, and square roots in calculations. Use basic methods from the Java String Class, where needed. Know and use the relational operators within the condition part of Java statements. Switch Statement (case, break) Incrementing and Decrementing Unit 3 Control Loops Know and use control loops, as needed, to alter the linear flow of a Java computer program. while Loop Error checking of input Sentinel Value do-while Loop Java Control Statements (15 days) Composite Operators Know and use the various ways to increment and decrement a variable. Incrementing and Decrementing Composite Operators (+=, -=, etc.) Other Loops Know and use loops, including nested loops, to control the flow of the Java program. Loop Nested Loops More String Class Methods Know and use additional Java String Class methods in various situations. String Class Concepts & Methods (index, length, charat)
