5 Overview What are you looking for? So you have been put in charge of the Company s new (or soon to be) Drone! Also tasked with processing the UAV data in-house What software should I purchase? Which one is right for my needs? What is your end goal? 2D? 3D? Calculations? What are the deliverables? Orthoimagery, point cloud, 3D Model, GIS linework, CAD Data, published scene, or a combination of the above 5
6 General Workflow Preflight & After Landing Before Data Collection Capture Software DJI Go Station Pro (GSP) DroneDeploy Pix4D Capture Some of these softwares do have cloud processing If you only need orthoimagery, this is another option Plan your boundaries and control points before heading to the site. This saves time in the field, plus you are not rushing to make sure your elevations, speeds, and overlap settings are where you would like them A Note on Control: While you can fly a site with no ground control points, this is NOT RECOMMENDED! 6
7 General Workflow Preflight & After Landing On loading photos When you bring in your photos, do not change the projection settings on the page This is because the UAV is shooting in WGS84 Changing the settings will place your photos incorrectly! After photo loading, make sure you have adequate coverage and that everything looks correct. Import and set control points to UAV Images 7

16 If you need to edit or Classify Point Clouds Pix4D has a suite of tools to easily classify, reclassify, and otherwise edit Point Cloud Data If you need Elevation Profiles While both softwares have volumetric calculators, Drone2Map has Elevation Profile capability If you need your computer free for other work while processing Point Clouds Pix4D s Cloud Processing option allows you to push the data to the internet after initial processing, freeing your hardware for other projects. If you need to Process many projects back to back Drone2Map can create Batch Processing jobs to run project processing one after another If the work will be exclusively done in a GIS Format (including publishing to the web) Since Drone2Map is an ESRI product, it integrates well with the full ArcGIS Suite 16
