Fundamentals of Website Development CSC 2320, Fall 2015 The Department of Computer Science Review Web Extensions Server side & Where is your JOB? 1
In this chapter Dynamic pages programming Database Others Dynamic pages programming Dynamic pages v.s. static pages Static pages: Only html, CSS, JavaScript Nearly no variations according to request Cost time to edit and update Dynamic pages: Add dynamic page techniques Diversity Easy to apply and update Choose one and get started ASP: Active Server Pages PHP: PHP Hypertext Preprocessor JSP: Java Server Pages
Dynamic pages programming How do the server pages work? Mix programming code in html. Html only relies on web server Programming code in html relies on compiler or other kind language analyzer. Html file is for presentation structure. Programming code describe and process the logic. Comparisons of APS, PHP and JSP Commons: All run in server side, user side is so light (only a browser is needed). Advantages: ASP: use easy languages like VBScript Compatible with ActiveX Scripting and plug-in provided by third party like Perl. ActiveX server components very extensible
Comparisons of APS, PHP and JSP(cont.) Advantages: PHP: Great database connection functions with all kinds of database. Best with MySQL Easy to learn JSP: Use Java Server components: reuse, cross-platform Separate the production of pages and view of pages more clearly. Server side design model MVC: Model, View and Control model Model: application, processor View: present the data Control: input and output between database and model processor
MVC model JSP > ASP > PHP Popular frameworks for quick deployment of JSP. Spring Struts Hibernate Database Database SQL Server MySQL Oracle Language: SQL: Structured Query Language Learn in database class. What is the MEAN Stack?
Example Application Database Server Client Why Go MEAN? JavaScript all the way down Consistent models across stack Consistent best practices across stack Leverage JavaScript s popularity
(APPLICATION PLATFORM) What it does Server-side javascript platform built on V8 engine What javascript has done for the web browser, Node.js is doing for the backend server Learn more at:
Running Node NodeJS module package manager There is a module for everything, probably more than one. Key commands - install, remove, update, search, -g flag for global
Node.js And MEAN Stack High performance server-side JavaScript Module loading Asynchronous IO Application platform foundation (WEB SERVER)
What it does A simple and robust web application framework for Node.js Gives you everything you would expect to build a modern web server Middleware, routing, templating, static-files, cookies, mime-types and much much more Learn more at: Running Express
PIMP YOUR STACK (MANY OTHER NODE FRAMEWORKS) (THE DATABASE)
What it does A simple and scalable document based NoSQL DB JSON based model persistence Flexible Schemas, Query Selectors, Sharding and much much more Learn more at: DOCUMENT DATA
Its not SQL! Mongoose
PIMP YOUR STACK (MANY OTHER JSON DB OPTIONS) (CLIENT APPLICATION)
What it does An extensible client-side application framework A swiss army knife of JavaScript MVW goodness Data-binding, syncing, templating, components and much, much more Learn more at: Angular Views
Angular Models & Controllers PIMP YOUR STACK (OR A MILLION OTHERS)
End of all lectures Q&A about projects. Future LET S GET STARTED!
Questions Thank You!
