Start Open the Web Map with a Webbrowser, i.e. with Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer or WebKit (Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Android, Opera, etc.): or directly here: Everything what is needed for using the Web Map is loaded via Internet. When loading the first time, one has to wait for the display of certain elements (which are marked with red arrows on the following figure). Afterwards, the Web Map is readily available.

Choosing thematic groups, data layers and subdivisions For now, the following thematic groups are available (Figure 2): Projektgebiet (in english: project area) Klima (in english: climate) Bodenphysik und Wasserhaushalt (in english: soil physics and water status) Bodenchemie (in english: soil chemistry) Geochemie (in english: geochemistry) Geologie (in english: geology) Geophysik (in english: geophysics) Fig. 2: Thematic groups of the Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum

7 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 7/20 The ordering of the thematic groups is also the ordering of drawing of the thematic layers. Themes on top are painting over the themes at the bottom. If You click on the label of the themes, the corresponding data layers and sub themes are shown, i.e. click on theme Geologie (Fig. 3, click on the word Geologie ). 8 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 8/20 If You click on a data layer, i.e. the layer Lage der Punkte, the corresponding legend is shown. 10 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 10/20 If You want the drawing of certain layers, switch on their corresponding checkbox(es), or switch them off again, to hide the layers from the map (Fig. 6). Fig. 6: Use the Checkbox(es) to switch layers on and off Some layers also switch on and off depending on scale: Geologie 1: (in scale 1:5.000 bis 1:99.999) and Geologie 1: (in scale 1: ). These depend on Your Zoom In/Out status.

11 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 11/20 3.) Navigation within the map 3.1 Zoom in and out Move the mouse pointer into the map window/area. Click onto Plus or Minus Symbol (Fig. 7) to zoom in and out. If You have a mouse wheel, You can use this too (the mouse pointer has to be over the map area to use the mouse-wheel function). Fig. 7: Click on Plus oder Minus sign for zooming in and out, or move the mouse pointer on the map and use the mouse wheel. When pressing the Shift-Key on the Keyboard, one can click-and-drag the left mouse button to specify a zoom window on the map. The House Symbol resets onto the default map project limits.

12 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 12/20 Using the Circle Symbol, You can use Your current location and/or GPS location device. 3.2 Pan (Moving) Click-and-Drag with the left mouse button to move/pan within the map window. 4.) Attributes of the thematic maps When You switch on the thematic layers, You can click on a map element, i.e. a polygon to show the corresponding attributes (Fig. 8). 13 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 13/20 If there are many thematic layers drawn simultaneously, their attributes will be shown step by step. The number of themes with attributes is shown in the blue bar on top of the popup window (Fig. 9). Click on the white arrows to switch between attribute categories of themes (Fig. 9). Fig. 9: Number of themes with attributes and switching between them by using white arrows, after click on a location of map element You can look at the attributes of: Projektgebiet, Bodenphysik und Wasserhaushalt, Bodenchemie, Geochemie und Geologie. There are also pie charts, one has to click into the center of the pie charts to see the attributes (zoom in sufficiently to click correctly to the center of the pie charts).

14 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 14/20 5.) Optional Transparency Click on the small arrow besides the theme name (Fig. 10). Fig. 10: Click on the small arrow A context menu will open to choose additional drawing options (Fig. 11). Choose transparency to use a shine through drawing mode. You can also zoom to the extent of the layer or get its description (a technical one).

16 Web Map Naturraum Carnuntum Manual Page 16/20 6.) Legends of thematic layers To see the legends of the currently drawn themes, click on the legend button Show Map Legend (Fig. 12). Fig. 12: Click on Legend Symbol You can see the legnd, i.e. of theme Geologie (Fig. 13). Click again on the button Show contents of Map (see Fig. 1) and use the checkboxes to draw other themes and have a look at their legends.

You can also search for a place or an address. Details will hide or show the table of contents (the part on the left side of the map window).
