4 1 Introduction With this BETA release of EDB Postgres Advanced Server 11.0, EnterpriseDB continues to lead as the only worldwide company to deliver innovative and low cost open-source-derived database solutions with commercial quality, ease of use, compatibility, scalability, and performance for small or large-scale enterprises. EDB Postgres Advanced Server 11.0 BETA is built on open-source PostgreSQL 11.0 beta2, which introduces an impressive number of improvements that enable databases to scale up and scale out in more efficient ways. PostgreSQL 11.0 builds upon the new Native Partitioning functionality with several significant enhancements, an improved set of parallel operations, JIT compilation of SQL functions, SCRAM channel binding, as well as a host of other new features and capabilities. EDB Postgres Advanced Server 11.0 BETA adds a number of new stand-out features: Data redaction Autonomous transactions Performance diagnostics Various performance improvements to OCI dblink These release notes are applicable to the BETA release on August 03, EDB Postgres Advanced Server v11.0 BETA Features The major highlights of this release are: Integration of all PostgreSQL v11.0 features including: Parallelism improvements Parallel hash join Parallel b-tree index creation Parallel CREATE TABLE AS / MATERIALIZED VIEW Partitioning enhancements Default partitions Foreign key on partitioned tables Partition by hash key Faster partition pruning UPDATE row movement

5 Automatic child partition index creation Partition-wise aggregate JIT compilation SCRAM channel binding LDAP support for TLS EPAS v11.0 features including: Autonomous transactions Data redaction Performance diagnostics Default partition on range-partitioned tables Performance improvements to libpq dblink and OCI Procedure overloading Failover support for OCI dblink Dblink_ora_copy routes rows directly to child partitions PostgreSQL 11.0 contains a number of changes that may affect compatibility with previous releases. They are published in the PostgreSQL 11.0 Release Notes: 3 Included Components The following components are included in the EDB Postgres Advanced Server V11.0 Beta Database Server pgagent edb_modules 1.0-beta pgpool (Linux rpms) All the components above have been tested with v11.0 Beta. The remaining product portfolio will be supported with the v11 General Availability (GA) release. 4 Known Issues in 11.0 BETA The following known issues are applicable to the 11.0.x BETA release on Aug xx, PostGIS 2.4.x is not compatible with Postgres 11. The postgis community will release 2.5.x to support v11. No postgis installers will be available for EPAS 11 until a stable postgis 2.5.x release is available. The pl/java extension is not available in EPAS v11 Beta. (EV-57)

6 The cloneschema and parallelclone extensions are currently not available in EPAS v11 Beta (EV-63). If you use pg_upgrade to upgrade from a prior EPAS versions to v11 Beta, the upgrade will fail if the pldbgapi extension exists in the source database. As a workaround, remove the pldbgapi extension from the source database, perform the upgrade and then recreate the extension in v11 Beta. (EV-68) EPAS v11 beta does not ship a compatible slony version yet. (EV-64) EPAS v11 beta does not ship a compatible EDB*Plus version yet. (EV-66) The open issues in PostgreSQL 11.0 are published at: 5 Installers and Documentation EDB Postgres Advanced Server v11.0.x BETA is packaged and delivered as a series of interactive installers available on the Beta Programs download site: Beta Documentation is also provided on the same page. 6 Platform Support and System Requirements EDB Postgres Advanced Server v11.0 beta supports RPM installations on the following 64-bit Linux platforms: RHEL / CentOS / OEL 6.x and 7.x Linux on IBM Power8 Little Endian (LE) And provides interactive installers for the following Windows server platforms: Windows 2012 R2 Windows Server 2016 Note : The v11.0 GA release will provide native packages for Debian and SUSE Linux Enterprise Edition.
