2 hapter : Getting Started 0 2 Introduction ViewMarq is an LE message display utilizing the latest LE and communications technologies for industry. It utilizes both serial and Ethernet communications. The display can be connected to a PL or any device capable of sending serial SII, Modbus RTU, or Modbus TP communications. It can accept commands over Modbus and Modbus TP, or serial SII. Some of the features of the ViewMarq LE message displays are: Powered by 00 to 20 V or 2 V Low power consumption, high-efficiency switch mode supply E, UL0, NEM2 indoor, NEM indoor Multiple mounting options Free, easy to use configuration software No configuration IP switches. Everything is set through software for ease of use. RS22/ Serial SII and Modbus RTU and Ethernet Modbus TP communications can be used at the same time. Purpose of the Software The ViewMarq onfiguration Software serves four purposes: ) reate and Preview Messages 2) isplay messages on the ViewMarq ) onfigure the ViewMarq LE display ) reate SII String ommands that may be used in a PL to control the LE message display ) reate and load a Message list to the ViewMarq LEdisplay. Purpose of this Manual This user manual provides information that will help you mount, wire, configure, use, troubleshoot, and maintain your ViewMarq message display. 5 hapter : Getting Started Getting Started bout Getting Started If you are familiar with LE message displays and PL s in general, then following the simple steps in this chapter may be all you require to start being productive using a ViewMarq LE display. fter you have completed the steps, your ViewMarq LE display will be displaying messages you create on your P. If you are new to the world of LE displays and PLs, be sure to familiarize yourself with all of the chapters in this user manual to help you get started. Supplemental Manuals and Other Help. 7 hapter : Getting Started Step - Install onfiguration Software The ViewMarq onfiguration Software runs on the Windows operating system. 9 hapter : Getting Started Step - onnect Power Wiring The ViewMarq LE message display can accept power (2 V) or power (20 or 20 V). There is a power terminal for each. Warning: Only one power source should be connected to the ViewMarq display. Observe all of the wiring precautions stated in this User Manual and the Installation Guide. 10 hapter : Getting Started 0 2 Step - onnect the ViewMarq Message isplay to a P The default settings of the ViewMarq LE display make connecting to a P for the first time very simple. You can connect in one of two ways; Ethernet or Serial. We will cover Ethernet for this example. Refer to hapter P to ViewMarq ommunication for other communications options. Ethernet The simplest way to connect the ViewMarq to a P is through the Ethernet Port. ) Using a straight-through or crossover Ethernet Patch cable, connect the ViewMarq to the P s Ethernet port. The system will automatically detect the cable type.(one seven foot straight-through cable is supplied with the ViewMarq). 2) The ViewMarq LE display can also be connected to a local Ethernet network via a straightthrough or crossover cable. 12 hapter : Getting Started 0 2 Step - reate Link between the ViewMarq and your P Establishing Ethernet ommunications with the ViewMarq Message isplay NOTE: See hapter for establishing serial communication with the ViewMarq message display. First, select the Ethernet link: ) From the Setup menu select P to LE isplay ommunications. 2) In the P to LE isplay ommunications dialog box, select Ethernet in the Link List. ) In the P to LE isplay ommunication dialog box, select the rowse button to browse the network for any connected ViewMarq LE display. -2 User Manual, st Ed. If the ViewMarq does not show up on the list:. heck the physical connection.. heck that the Ethernet port on the P is enabled. If the P has multiple Network Interface cards, disable those not in use. ) Select the ViewMarq LE message display in the table. ) If the IP ddress is correct on your local Subnet, click Select and proceed to step. NOTE: If the IP ddress of the ViewMarq is.2.xxx.nnn then no HP server was found to issue an IP ddress. heck the IP ddress of the ViewMarq and set the IP ddress of the ViewMarq to be on the same subnet as the P. If the IP ddress of the ViewMarq is , then the ViewMarq is not connected to an Ethernet network. ) If the IP ddress is not on your Subnet it must be changed, select it and click Edit to open the Ethernet rowse Editor. ) eselect Obtain IP ddress from HP Server. ) Enter an IP ddress, Subnet Mask and efault Gateway compatible with your P s Ethernet settings or check with your IT department for proper settings User Manual, st Ed. The new settings will scroll on the screen. 2) In the rowse window select the Refresh button. ) When the ViewMarq is listed in the table again select it and click Select. ) Select Save and OK You have now established an Ethernet link from your P to your ViewMarq LE display. 15 hapter : Getting Started Step - reating Messages reating a new message in the ViewMarq software is simple, just start typing. ) To create a message, start typing in the Text Editor window. 2) s text is entered, it is automatically displayed in the simulator. ) lso, an SII formatted string is automatically created for use in your PL instruction. To get more attention with your message, you may change the Text size, olor and / or make it link. You can also choose to justify the text to the enter or Right or make the text Scroll. Experiment with the different effects that can be used to modify and display your text in creative ways. For more information on Formatting Messages, see hapter - reating and Previewing Messages. 16 hapter : Getting Started 0 2 Step - Simulating Messages The ViewMarq Simulator shows all text colors, blinking text, scrolling messages and inserted variables just as they appear on the ViewMarq display. NOTE: Shades of color, blink rates and scroll speeds may vary depending on your P environment. display To see what your message will look like on the ViewMarq display you can simulate it as if it were on the particular model that you have. In the example below, the model selected is a M-02T, the -line by 2-character tri-color model. Stop / Play y default the Simulator is in Play mode. This means that any motion such as scroll or blink will be seen in the Simulator as it will look on a message display. Selecting Stop will stop the Simulator from running until Play is selected. When Play is selected, the simulation will start over from the beginning. Even when it is stopped, the Simulator will still show text as it is typed. Pause When the Simulator is in Play mode and Pause is selected, the simulation will stop where it is. When Pause is selected again, the simulation will continue where it left off. 17 hapter : Getting Started Step - Sending Messages to the ViewMarq Message isplay Now that you have: ) Established a Link with your ViewMarq 2) reated a message ) Previewed it on the Simulator, it is time to display the message on the ViewMarq message display. 18 hapter : Getting Started 0 2 Step 0 - Sending Messages from your PL to the ViewMarq Sending messages one at a time from the P software is not always convenient. It is much more common to use your control system to display a series of messages or to control messages/data to be displayed based on your control system conditions. s you create a message in the ViewMarq software, the software creates an SII string of commands that the ViewMarq recognizes to display the message you created. This string may be copied to the P clipboard and pasted into your PL s instruction or memory, and sent either serially or over Ethernet to the ViewMarq. The ViewMarq can receive an SII ommand String by: Protocol onnection SII RS-22 (Port ), RS (Port 2) Modbus RTU RS-22 (Port ), RS (Port 2) Modbus TP Ethernet Port 2 RS Port RS SG TX RX RTS RJ2 Port RS22 RJ Ethernet The following example shows you how to send messages to the ViewMarq from an utomationirect LIK PL using RS-22 and the SII protocol.
