RITIS Training Module 9 Script Welcome to the Regional Integrated Information System or RITIS Module 09 CBT. To begin, select the start button or press Shift+N on your keyboard. This training module will cover using the Performance Charts, Bottleneck Ranking, and Dashboard tools within the Florida Analytics section of the Regional Integrated Information System, or RITIS website. When you first login, you will automatically be brought to the Transportation System Status tab and the Incident List section. To navigate to the Florida Analytics section, select the Data Archive tab then select Florida Analytics. This opens a new tab for Florida Analytics. To access the Performance Charts, select Performance Charts in the center section of the home screen or the bar charts icon from the top left of the screen. This brings you to a screen to select the roads and time period of interest. The default Roads section is the Standard road selection section. To the right of the Florida symbol, type the road you are interested in and press the Enter key or select the search icon to the right of the field. Typing I-10 will give you multiple options. Select the I-10 (69 interchanges) option to select it. Once selected, the road will be highlighted in the map portion of the screen. You can zoom in or out as desired from the map section using the mouse wheel to scroll or the plus/minus signs in the top left corner of the map. Selecting the target site icon re-centers the map on your selection. To report a problem with the road you selected, select Report a problem with this road This allows you to report an issue to RITIS support. Fill out the Report a problem section and describe the problem in the section provided. Leave the box checked if you want to receive an when the issue has been resolved. Select the Submit button to submit your issue. Select the Cancel button or the X in the upper right corner of the Report a problem window to cancel reporting an issue. You can change the color of the road by selecting the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. Only distinct traffic message channel, or TMC, codes from overlapping sections will be used in calculations and duplicates will be ignored. You can limit your selection to only one direction by unchecking a direction. To limit the selection further, change the radio button from Entire Road to Partial Road. This gives you the option to select what intersection markers you want to use for the road. When you change your intersections listed in the drop down menus, the highlighted road section will update on the map as well as the number of miles of roadway selected and the number of TMC codes included. Keep in mind that the number of miles includes both directions of the road when both Eastbound and Westbound are selected. Hovering over the information icon, the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, will give you additional information about the mileage for a roadway. If you zoom into the highlighted road section and hover over it, you will see individual TMC segments. TMC segments vary in length. A TMC segment may vary in length for the opposite direction of the same portion of a roadway. Selecting a TMC segment allows you to remove it from the selection. There will be a separate TMC segment for each direction. You can repeat removing TMC segments as desired. To add the TMC segment back, select the note to the right of the zoom buttons in the upper left corner of the map. You can select the Add all TMCs back button or individually add them back by highlighting the TMC you want to add by selecting it, then selecting the green circle with the white plus sign. You can repeat this as desired. You can continue to edit a road even when using other Road tabs by expanding the section by selecting the triangle to the right of the Road Name details. To use the advanced road selection tool, select Advanced on the right side in the Roads box. This allows you to pick the roadway and limit it to specific counties, zip codes, road classes, and directions. Pick the counties of

interest, directions, zip codes, and road classes, and type the road name. Then hit enter or select the Search button. If you restrict a roadway to areas where it does not exist, the message No roads found for road name will appear. Once the road is added, you can change its color by selecting the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. To select roads by region, select the Region tab in the Roads box. To select all roads for a county, select the county of interest and select the Add region button in the Roads box. This will add all roads in the county including available arterials within that county. Once a road is added, you can change its color by selecting the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. If you select a region that spans more than one road, you will not be able to use some tools in conjunction with others. This notice will appear when you hover over a caution icon, the yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, next to the region in question; for example, Region/Monroe County/ All Roads. To select specific TMC codes, select the List of TMC codes tab in the Roads box. Type a TMC code, that is, HERE data TMC codes, such as , not FDOT TMC codes, in the available space. List as many TMC codes as you want, separating them with commas. You will get an error message at the bottom of the Roads box noting a TMC is invalid. This error message will remain until you finish typing the valid TMC code. The same error message will appear if you type more than one TMC code without separating the codes with commas. Leaving the Auto refresh map box checked will refresh the map as you add TMC codes. Having the box checked doesn t add them until you press the Add TMC codes, but it does show their location on the map. Once you have completed the list of TMC codes, select the Add TMC codes button. You can then expand the section to edit the TMC codes by selecting the triangle to the right of the TMC codes added. You can revise the TMC codes as desired and press the OK button. Once the TMC codes are added, you can change their color by selecting the color box to the left of the number of TMC codes and selecting a new color. You can save a set of TMC codes after you have entered several roadways (using Road, Region, List of TMC codes, or a combination of tabs) by selecting the Save at TMC set button in the bottom right corner of your selected roads box. This allows you to give the TMC code set a name for future use. There is no need to enter your name in the TMC code set name since you can sort by your address. You have the ability to keep the TMC code set private or allow others within your agency to use this newly created set. If you need to run queries frequently on complex TMC code sets, this is very useful. Once your information has been entered, select the Save button. If you select the Cancel button or the X in the upper right corner of the TMC set window, it will not save your TMC code set. Notice that to find a specific TMC code, you could select an entire road, hover over the area of interest, and write down the TMC code you want to use in the List of TMC codes section. This can be helpful if you are only interested in one or two TMC codes on a road and they are not next to each other. Intersections could allow you to narrow a roadway segment, but only for adjacent TMC codes. Removing TMC codes individually from a roadway can be time consuming if you need to remove most of the TMC codes. To view a saved TMC code set, select the Saved TMC Set tab in the Roads box. You can sort by Owner to find your TMC code sets quickly or sort by TMC Set. To sort by Owner, select the Owner column. To sort by TMC code set name, select the TMC Set column. You can filter the TMC Sets shown in the list by selecting Filters. You can check a box to only show your TMC code sets. Additionally, you can filter further by checking the Filter by the text box and typing the text you want to filter. Once the correct TMC code set is found, double select it to select it.

To rename your TMC code set, hover over the TMC Set name and select the pencil icon; rename as desired and select the Save button. The renaming option allows you to revise the choice for making the TMC code set visible to other users within your agency or only yourself. To delete your TMC code set, hover over the TMC Set name and select the red circle icon with the minus sign. It will confirm deletion of the TMC code set. If you still want to delete the TMC code set, select the Yes button. If you do not want to delete the TMC code set, select the No button or the X in the upper right corner of the confirmation window. It will not allow you to delete or rename someone else s TMC code set. To remove a road, region, or TMC code in the Roads section, select the red X to the left of the Road, Region, or TMC code. Be sure you want to remove it before selecting the red X since you will have to repeat the selection steps to add it back. To hide a selection, such as road, region, or TMC code, select the open eye image next to the road name, region, or TMC code you wish to hide. To unhide a selection, select the closed eye image next to the road name, region, or TMC code you wish to unhide. It may be helpful to hide a selection to see if there are overlaps in your selection. Keep in mind that if you select a roadway multiple times, it will appear in your data set multiple times. To identify a date range, select the calendar icons to select the dates of interest and scroll months and years using the arrows within the calendar. Today is the default selection. The dates selected are inclusive. For example, if you select 07/27/ /31/2015 it will return five days of data. Hovering over the information icon, which is the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, will give you another example. To add more than one date range, select the Add another date range button. Select the calendar icons for the next range of interest. You can repeat this as many times as desired. To remove a date range, select the gray X to the right of the date you wish to remove. This can be repeated as needed. Next, you can filter out certain days of the week. Check the box Limit to specific days of the week to apply this filter. The green check on each day of the week shows which days are included. The default is to include every day of the week. You must select at least one day of the week. If you are only interested in the weekend, select each of the days for Monday through Friday to remove them from the selection. If you make an error in your selection and want to add or remove days, simply select the day prior to submitting the data export request. To select months of time for your request, select the Month(s) tab. Select the Select month(s) drop down menu to make a selection. You can select multiple months at once by selecting either a starting month or ending month and dragging the cursor over the rest of the months of interest. For example, select July 2014 and drag your curser to November 2014 to select July through November You can select months over multiple years too. For example, select July 2014 and drag your curser to November 2015 to select one year and 5 months of data across 2014 and To select just one month, select the month of interest and then select it once more to keep the cursor from selecting more months. Press the OK button to close the selection window. You can filter out days of the week in the Day(s) tab as explained, if desired. Select the green Add time period button to add the time period. The month selector will not allow you to select two non-adjacent months during the same selection. To get around this, repeat the previous steps for the second non-adjacent month of interest. You have the option to create a separate time period for each month within your range. Use this option with care. If you select more than seven months and create a time period for each month, it will use all of your time periods allowed and exceed it. If exceeded, you will be unable to submit your request until you remove time periods until the total time periods no longer exceed seven. Keep in mind that large time periods in your request will take longer to load when submitted.

To remove a time period once it has been added, select the red X to the left of the time period you want to remove in Your selected time periods section. Repeat this step as desired. To remove all of your selected time periods at once, select the Remove all button in the upper right corner of Your selected time periods. A pop-up window will appear confirming you want to remove all of your selected time periods. To continue removing all of your selected time periods, select the Yes button. To cancel removing all of your selection time periods, select the No button or the X in the upper right corner of the pop-up window. To select a year of time for your request, select the Year tab. Pick the year from the drop down Year menu. The green check on each day of the week shows which days are included. The default is to include every day of the week. You must select at least one day of the week. If you are only interested in the weekend, select each of the days for Monday through Friday to remove them from the selection. If you make an error in your selection and want to add or remove days, simply select the day prior to submitting your request. Select the green Add time period button to add the time period. Repeat these steps as desired. There is a maximum of seven time periods allowed. Selecting 18 months and creating a time period for each month within the range will cause you to go over the seven time periods allowed. You will not be able to submit your request until time periods are removed and the maximum number of time periods is less than or equal to seven. A pop-up window will appear confirming that you want to remove all of your selected time periods. To continue removing all of your selected time periods, select the Yes button. To cancel removing all of your selected time periods, select the No button or the X in the upper right corner of the pop-up window. Next, select your data source. The default selection is HERE data. Only HERE data is available in Florida Analytics. Selecting another data type listed will return Performance Charts with no data showing. The HERE data source should be automatically checked. Please make sure the HERE data source is checked prior to Submitting your request. HERE data is only available after October 7, If you have a large time period (months or year) selected, you will have the option to select the time of day when Day of week granularity is selected. The default is all day. To adjust the time range, drag the time tag endpoints as desired. You can add multiple time ranges by selecting the green Add another time range button and adjust the time range each time one is added. A chart will be created for each pair of periods and time ranges. If you have a small time period (days) selected, other granularity options are available. Granularity of 2 minutes will be unavailable for more than 300 TMC codes. For example, if you select all of I-95, since it is over 600 TMC codes, you will not be able to select a granularity of less than 5 minutes. The time periods selected also affect the granularity available. The 2-minute granularity is only available for a time period of one day. The 5-minute granularity is only available for time periods of one week or less. The 15- minute granularity is only available for time periods of one week or less. The additional time selections made can cause you to reduce the granularity options. Hovering over the information icons, the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, will give you additional information about the granularity restrictions based on your selections. The information icon will not appear until the granularity option becomes unavailable based on your selections. After all your selections have been made, select the Submit button. If the Submit button is grayed out instead of blue, you need to make a selection in sections 1-3.

A new tab will open showing a Loading icon until the Performance Charts generates. All of the chart options are to the left of the graphs. Depending on the mode, you will have a graph for each roadway selected in each direction or for each time period. Scroll down the page to view the different graphs. To change the Mode, select the drop down menu on the top left of the screen to select one of the two options. The default mode is Chart per direction. Next, adjust your chart Type. The default chart Type is line graphs. Choose the icon for the type of chart you want. The chart Type options are bar, line, scatterplot, and candlestick. There are two Layout options. The default Layout is to have every graph one above the other (vertical layout.) The other Layout option is to have the graphs tiled. The Vertical axis scale can be changed from Best fit to Custom fit. When Custom fit is selected, you can choose the Min and Max of the graph axis. Hovering over the graphs allows you to see a tooltip of that point in time. Selecting the graph locks to tooltip for each of the graphs. There is the option to remove all tooltips on the left side of the page. The Metric shown is dependent on the selection from the drop down menu on the left side of the page. The default Metric is Speed. The other options are Buffer Time, Buffer Index, Planning Time, Planning Time Index, Historic Average Speed, Comparative Speed, Congestion Percentage, Historic Average Congestion, Travel Time, and Travel Time Index. The Chart data options allow you to remove directions from the graphs, change the color of the graphs, remove a time period, and show percentile shading for a direction. The options visible will depend on the chart Mode selected. For more information about percentile shading, hover over the information icon, which is the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i. To save the summary table data for the Performance Summaries, select the save button in the upper right corner of the screen, select save as Excel file, and select Save as. Pick the location on your computer where you want to store the file, rename it with a more descriptive name, and select the Save button. Be sure to use the.xls extension if you rename the file. You can easily open the file after it is saved by navigating to its location on your computer. The file will have a separate tab for each roadway direction by date range. If you have one roadway with two directions and three separate months selected, this will produce six tabs of data. To save a screenshot of the Performance Charts, select the save button in the upper right corner of the screen and select save as Screenshot. If desired, check the Include definition of current metric in screenshot box and select Save as. When the box is checked, it provides definitions for Buffer Time, Buffer Index, Planning Time, Planning Time Index, Speed, Travel Time, and Travel Time Index. Pick the location on your computer where you want to store the file, rename it with a more descriptive name, and select the Save button. Be sure to use a.jpg extension if you rename the file. You can easily open the file after it is saved by navigating to its location on your computer. The screenshot image is dependent on the tab selected when the save button is selected and the screenshot option is selected. To access the same information selected for the Performance Charts in Performance Summaries, Congestion Scan, or Trend Map, select the Switch to button in the upper right corner of the page. You may notice some tools are grayed out if they are unavailable based on the granularity selected. Select the desired available tool after selecting the Switch to button. This opens a new tab for the new tool. These tools are covered in other training modules. This concludes Module 09, Florida Analytics Performance Charts.
