1 Customer Release Notes Fiery Q5000 for DocuColor igen3, version 2.0 This document contains information about Fiery Q5000 for DocuColor igen3 server software version 2.0. Before using the Fiery Q5000 for DocuColor igen3 with version 2.0, make a copy of these Customer Release Notes and distribute them to all users. Before printing to the Fiery Q5000 for DocuColor igen3: Make sure Fiery Q5000 system software version 2.0 is installed on the Fiery Q5000. Install Fiery Q5000 user software version 2.0 on client computers. For instructions, see Utilities on the documentation CD. Install printer drivers on client computers. For instructions, see Printing from Windows and Printing from Mac OS on the documentation CD. NOTE: The term Fiery Q5000 is used in this document to refer to the Fiery Q5000 for DocuColor igen3. Fiery Advanced Controller Interface (FACI) is used to refer to the monitor, mouse, and keyboard connected to the Fiery Q5000. Setup and Installation Printer connections Make sure to keep one queue or Direct connection enabled at all times. If all the connections are disabled when you access remote Setup using Command WorkStation or Fiery WebSetup, the message Open Network Socket Error appears. Installing the Windows Me printer driver When you install the Windows Me printer driver, EFI Job Monitor starts. Close EFI Job Monitor if you do not want to run it. Print Interface Paper stock The colors Blue5 and Blue10 are not recognized by the Fiery Q5000. In the Print Interface Stock Library, add new stocks with Color set to White. For more information about the Print Interface, see the documentation that came with your digital press. Adding new media If you add new media to the Print Interface Stock Library, you must restart the DocuSP to enable the Fiery Paper Catalog to update with the current stock library. 2 Page 2 System Calibration Do not use ColorWise Pro Tools or Command WorkStation for calibration. Instead, use the methods described in the documentation that accompanies your DocuSP. Completed with Error by DocuSP When a job appears at the DocuSP with the error status, Completed with Error, Command WorkStation reports that the job is Aborted by Printer and the Print Status in the Job Log shows Rip Error. Job Log Only one page of the Job Log, containing the last 55 jobs, is printed when you select it from Command WorkStation. This occurs even when more than 55 jobs are listed in the Job Log. To print a complete Job Log, print the Job Log using WebSpooler instead of Command WorkStation. USB ports Devices with USB connectors are not compatible with the Fiery Q5000 system, except for the EFI Spectrometer ES Printing Message regarding fonts When you update a printer driver to an existing printer on Windows 98/Me, the warning message, Fonts downloaded... may be lost appears. Mac OS X printer driver Before using the Installer WebTool to download and extract the printer driver files for Spanish, Portuguese, or French, make sure you install Alladin StuffIt Expander, version 7.0 or later. Earlier versions of StuffIt Expander do not retain the proper accented characters for folder names used by these languages, and the subsequent printer installation will not be successful. Windows 98/Me printer driver Selecting the Negative option, located under the Layout print option bar, applies negative images on only odd numbered pages. Tabs Print jobs with tabs may print with the tab text on the right side of the page when it is supposed to print on the left side. As a workaround, enable Rotate 180 from the Layout bar. Scale option Windows XP/2000 printer drivers support a maximum setting of 400% for the Scale option. Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0 printer drivers support a maximum setting of 1000% for the Scale option.

3 Page 3 Preview Master in the Windows 98/Me printer driver When you click the Preview Master or Update button in the Windows 98/Me printer driver, the message, This is 98/Me driver specific issue, may appear. A preview of the FreeForm master may not be available. Job Monitor Tray and Toner information Tray and Toner information is not supported on the Fiery Q5000. This information appears blank in the Job Monitor. Edge-to-edge print job Edge-to-edge print jobs may be clipped around the edges when printed. Pure Black Text/Graphics When Black Overprint is set to On, Pure Black Text/Graphics is automatically set to On. When Pure Black Text/Graphics is set to On, you may see severe steps in your print result. Duplex printing When you print a duplex job with the DocuSP Delivery option set to Face Down on a media type for which one side has different characteristics than the other side (for example, one-side coated paper), load the media upside down in the input tray. Offset jobs By default, the offset feature is enabled by the DocuSP. As a result, multiple-copy jobs are always offset in the finisher, regardless of the Offset Jobs print option setting on the Fiery Q5000. To disable the offset feature on the DocuSP: 1 Click the Printer Manager icon on the DocuSP. 2 Click the Stacking tab. 3 Click the Settings button. 4 In the Settings for All Stackers dialog box, clear the Enable check box for Collated Stacking and the Enable check box for Uncollated Stacking. 5 Click OK to close the dialog box. Scale When you override the Scale print option to enlarge EPS files in Command WorkStation, images may shift to a corner of the paper. In some cases, images may be cut off at the edge of the paper.

4 Page "x 22.5" page size The 14.33"x 22.5" page size is only available from the Windows XP/2000 printer driver or Command WorkStation. However, you can set this page size as a custom page size, since custom pages up to 14.33" x 22.5" are supported. The 14.33"x 22.5" page size requires a special feeder kit on the digital press in order to print. If you print this paper size without the special feeder kit, you will not get a constraint error message. Instead, the job will not print and the file will reside in the Printed queue with an error saying the job was aborted by the printer. Number of Tabs This option is not available in the Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X printer driver. Use Command WorkStation to specify this option. Page Size in the Mac OS X printer driver Available settings in this option are not the same as those listed in Print Options. 5 Page 5 Mac OS 9 When you install the Mac OS 9 printer driver and select to enable any queue, a dialog box prompts you to select the correct PPD. The Chooser does not automatically select the Fiery Q5000 PPD for you. Booklet Maker When you set the Speed Print option or Double Print option for Booklet Maker with duplex settings, the duplex setting has no effect on the job. FreeForm When you specify duplex settings for FreeForm masters, the settings have no effect. Specify the duplex setting for the FreeForm variable job, not the FreeForm master job. Cancelling jobs It may take longer to cancel the processing of large PDF jobs. Job management Cancelling a job at the DocuSP We do not recommend cancelling a print job at the DocuSP. As a general rule, perform all job management from the Fiery Q5000. If you cancel a job at the DocuSP, the print status of the job in the Command WorkStation Job Log shows OK instead of Cancelled. Deleting a job at the DocuSP We do not recommend deleting a job at the DocuSP. As a general rule, perform all job management from the Fiery Q5000. If you delete a job at the DocuSP, the print status of the job, if it appears in the Command WorkStation Job Log, shows RIP error. Color Spot colors and process colors The Fiery Q5000 cannot blend a spot color with a process color. To workaround this, use Spot-On to define a process color as a spot color. Doing this allows the Fiery Q5000 to blend the two colors together, but as spot colors. Convert Rich Black to Pure Black Convert Rich Black to Pure Black is an option available in PostScript Setup. When this option is set to On, the Fiery Q5000 substitutes CMYK black for pure 100% black. This allows you to print darker blacks than are possible with the CMYK blacks on the digital press.

6 Page 6 CMYK converts to K Some CMYK lines may convert to K, even when Pure Black Text and Graphics is set to Off, and Convert Rich Black to Pure Black is set to Off. Black Detection Black Detection is an accounting option available from the ColorWise tab in the printer driver. If you select Black Detection, the Fiery Q5000 checks the CMY plates after each page has been rendered. If they are all blank, the page is counted as a grayscale page in the Command WorkStation Job Log. Command WorkStation Tab settings The total number of tabs that can be set is in a set of 15. Job status When a single-page, one-copy job is being printed, the status waiting, instead of printing, is displayed to the left of the job name and remains displayed until print completion. Job properties of Mixed Media jobs in the Printed queue The print option settings displayed within the Printed Jobs panel are those that appear in the Job Properties. This is also the case for Mixed Media jobs. To see the Mixed Media settings, choose Properties from the Actions menu, and then click the Paper Source print option bar. Mixed Media job and Page Range The Page Range option under the Finishing print option bar in the Job Properties dialog box is not compatible with a Mixed Media job. Set the Page Range option to All when printing a Mixed Media job. Insert Tabs The acceptable range for the total number of Tabs in the Insert Tabs wizard is 1 through 8. Preview in the Activity Monitor A thumbnail may not appear in the Processing section of the Activity Monitor long enough to view when you print a one-page document. Imposition previews for TIFF formatted jobs No previews appear in the Imposition window for TIFF formatted files.

7 Page 7 Imposing a maximum custom page size If you create a maximum custom page size (14.33" x 22.5") and try to Impose it, an error message appears. To avoid this, use Points instead of Inches or Millimeters for Units in Command WorkStation. To impose a maximum custom page size: 1 Choose Preferences from the Edit menu and specify Points for Units. 2 Click OK. 3 Select the job, right-click it, and choose Job Properties. 4 Click the Paper Source tab and select Custom. 5 Type (W) and (L) and click OK. 6 Close Job Properties. 7 Select the job, right-click it, and choose Impose. This custom page size is only applied to the job you selected. To save a custom page size that is used often, use Job Templates from Job Properties. Merged rasterized jobs When you add one or more pages by duplicating existing pages of a processed job in the Preview window, the new job is printed with the added pages, as expected. However, if you print the same job from the Printed Jobs panel by choosing Print or Print and Hold from the Action menu, the job is printed without the added pages. Wrong duplex orientation Some VDP duplex jobs specified from Command WorkStation may print with the wrong duplex orientation. Imported jobs are clipped and not centered If you import an EPS file from Command WorkStation and override it to a different page size or a different page size with scaling, the image is not centered, and may be clipped. To avoid this, print the job from the application. Overriding jobs If you select multiple jobs to override, and a conflict error message appears, you receive a series of conflict error messages equal to the number of jobs you selected to override. To avoid this, select one job at a time if you override jobs from Command WorkStation.

8 Page 8 Minimum Scale setting The minimum Scale setting is 25%, even though you can specify a lower setting from Command WorkStation when you simultaneously select two jobs to override from the Hold queue. Downloading VPS files Downloading VPS files to the Direct connection is not supported. If you download a VPS file to the Direct connection, Command WorkStation does not display an error message. DocBuilder Pro Trim and Fold Marks Printed Trim and Fold Marks may not appear as defined in the Mark Properties dialog boxes, although they are printed in the correct locations. Jobs will not print Trim and Fold Marks with a 3 pt. dot trim if you specify this setting from DocBuilder Pro. Preview Jobs may not preview correctly from DocBuilder Pro when the job is printed from Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 on Mac OS X with the Mac OS X printer driver. To see the preview or impose jobs on non-raster files, only use Command WorkStation for Windows. DocBuilder Pro is not supported on Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X. Hot Folders Mixed Media Custom Page Sizes You cannot save custom page sizes in Hot Folders. As a workaround, override the job to a custom page size from Command WorkStation. Mixed Page Sizes If a Mixed Media job includes different page sizes, such as 8.5 x11 LEF and 11x17 SEF, you may notice a pause when the page size shifts from one size to another during printing. However, there is no impact on printing. Mixed Media job and FreeForm The FreeForm feature cannot be implemented on a Mixed Media job. The FreeForm master is printed on inserted blank pages without any variable elements in the Mixed Media job. Chapter start Page 0 is an impractical page number for the Chapter start field. However, the field accepts the value 0. Enter a starting page number for every chapter in your document, separated by commas. Your entry in the Chapter start field applies to the entire document, regardless of the page ranges you specify in the Define Mixed Media area.

9 Page 9 Fiery Downloader Interruption during downloading Exiting the Fiery Downloader application while it is downloading files or fonts may result in unexpected errors. Print and RIP statuses Print and RIP statuses do not appear in Fiery Downloader. Check the job statuses using Command Workstation. WebSpooler Applications Number of Tabs The Number of Tabs option is not available in the Override Print Settings dialog box. Make sure to specify the correct setting in the printer driver when you send your print job. If you have to override the option, use Command WorkStation. PageMaker Regardless of the setting of the Mixed Media In Use option, the most recent Mixed Media settings are applied to a print job from Adobe PageMaker on Windows NT 4.0. Enfocus PitStop PitStop software is located in the EFI Impose Kit. Microsoft Word When you scale an image in Microsoft Word, the image may not center correctly. As a workaround, send the job to the Hold queue with 100% scaling and override the scaling in Command WorkStation. Adobe InDesign If you install Windows 2000 drivers using Point and Print via SMB, Fiery specific settings are not applied to InDesign jobs. As a workaround, install Windows 2000 drivers using the User Software CD. Help EFI Help EFI Help was developed using the Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.x standard. If you use other browsers or previous browser versions of Internet Explorer, the help may display anomalies. If your browser uses a pop-up blocker, it may also block EFI Help. If this happens, temporarily disable your pop-up blocker to allow EFI Help to display. Windows XP SP2 prevents the display of HTML-format help.
