3 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 3 Licensee: Renishaw: Product: Licence to use: Renishaw OMV licence agreement IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY RENISHAW - Renishaw OMV PRODUCT LICENCE you, the person, firm or company accepting the terms of this licence Renishaw plc, New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, GL12 8JR, United Kingdom this software ( Renishaw OMV ) including all modules and components, manuals and any software protection devices incorporated within or issued with it non-exclusive licence to use the Product on a single installation at any one time using a Renishaw licence key. The licence to use may be transferred from one installation to another installation in accordance with the procedures specified by Renishaw. If the Product is licensed for a time-limited trial or demonstration only: the Product will not operate after expiry of the specified time; Renishaw provides no warranties regarding the performance of the Product and the first sentence of Condition 2 below does not apply. By opening any shrink-wrap or packaging in which the Product is contained and/or installing and/ or using the Product you indicate your acceptance of the terms of the Licence. If you do not agree to the terms of this Licence, do not install or use the software and promptly return the Product and accompanying documentation to the person who supplied it to you in order to obtain a refund of any licence fee paid. If you are installing the Product on a computer that is not owned by you, you are bound by this Licence both individually and as agent for the end user and your actions bind the end user. The end user means the person, firm or company that is the user of the computer. Renishaw grants the Licensee a Licence to use the Product on condition the Licensee accepts the following terms and conditions: 1. All rights in and title to the Product are and shall remain vested in Renishaw and its licensors. 2. Renishaw shall replace or repair the Product if it does not materially perform to specification under proper use within 90 days of delivery. Except as stated in this paragraph, all warranties, conditions and terms implied by law are excluded. In particular, no warranty is given that the Product is bug or error-free. 3. NOTE LIMITATION OF LIABILITY IN CONNECTION WITH USE OF THE PRODUCT Renishaw does not exclude liability for personal injury or death caused by Renishaw s negligence. For Products supplied free of charge to the Licensee, Renishaw has no other liability to Licensee. For Products paid for by the Licensee, Renishaw s liability is limited to (a) the warranty contained in paragraph 2 and (b) direct losses up to a maximum of 50,000. Renishaw has no liability to the Licensee for any indirect, consequential or economic loss (including, without limitation, loss of data, profits or goodwill). By accepting the terms of this Licence the Licensee agrees that this limitation of liability is reasonable. 4. The Licensee may not make any copies of the Product except as provided in this Licence or as permitted by applicable law. The Licensee is authorised to make a backup copy of the Product for security purposes. The Licensee must not remove any licence and copyright notices, labels or marks contained in the original and shall ensure all copies contain such notices without modification.

If the Product contains electronic manuals the Licensee may print out the manuals in part or in full, provided that the print outs or copies are not supplied to any third party that is not an employee or contractor for the Licensee without Renishaw s written permission. 6. The Licensee shall not reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the Product or re-use any components separately from the Product unless permitted by applicable law provided that Licensee has first contacted Renishaw to request any information required to interface with Licensee s other software. 7. The Licensee shall not make the Product available to any third party in any manner whatsoever nor may this Licence and the Product be transferred to a third party without Renishaw s prior written agreement. Any agreement by Renishaw is conditional on the permitted transferee agreeing to all terms of this Licence and the Licensee not retaining any copies of the Product. 8. The Licensee shall not export the Product in contravention of any applicable export control laws. 9. The Licensee shall permit reasonable auditing and tracing of copies of the Product by Renishaw or its licensors. 10. Renishaw shall have the right to terminate this Licence immediately if the Licensee fails to comply with any of these terms and conditions. The Licensee agrees upon receipt of notice of termination from Renishaw to immediately return or destroy all copies of the Product in its possession or control. 11. Statement concerning United States Government users - This Product is commercial computer software and commercial computer software documentation (as used in 48 CFR and 48 CFR to ) that has been developed exclusively at private expense. If this Product is acquired directly or indirectly on behalf of a unit or agency of the United States Government under the terms of (i) a United States Department of Defense contract, then pursuant to DOD FAR Supplement (a), the United States Government shall only have the rights set forth in this Licence; or (ii) a civilian agency contract, then use, reproduction, or disclosure is subject to the restrictions set forth in FAR clause (b)(2)(i), entitled Acquisition of Existing Computer Software, and any restrictions in the agency s FAR supplement and any successor regulations thereto, and the restrictions set forth in this Licence. 12. This Licence is governed by English law and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

5 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 5 Caution - Software safety The software you have purchased is used to control the movements of a machine tool. It has been designed to cause the machine to operate in a specified manner under operator control, and has been configured for a particular combination of machine tool hardware and controller. Renishaw has no control over the exact program configuration of the controller with which the software is to be used, nor over the mechanical layout of the machine. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the person putting the software into operation to: ensure that all machine safety guards are in position and are correctly working before commencement of operation; ensure that any manual overrides are disabled before commencement of operation; verify that the program steps invoked by this software are compatible with the controller for which they are intended; ensure that any moves which the machine will be instructed to make under program control would not cause the machine to inflict damage upon itself or upon any person in the vicinity; be thoroughly familiar with the machine tool and its controller, understand the operation of work co-ordinate systems, tool offsets, program communication (uploading and downloading) and the location of all emergency stop switches. IMPORTANT: This software makes use of controller variables in its operation. During its execution, adjustment of these variables, including those listed within this manual, or of tool offsets and work offsets, may lead to malfunction.

7 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 7 PIPartAligner PIPartAligner is an add-on for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro which enables users to set up components on a CNC machine tool using a Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro) measurement and alignment sequence to help reduce both set-up time and costs. The application can also be used to transfer calculated best fits to the machine tool controller, allowing the remachining of repositioned, free-form components. Installing PIPartAligner (Renishaw OMV) Log into the target PC. Insert the Renishaw OMV installation disc into the PC DVD drive. Open Windows Explorer and select the drive hosting the Renishaw OMV installation disc. Navigate to and select: Install > RenishawOMV > Extra. Select 64 (64-bit) or 86 (32-bit) as applicable depending on the operating system of the target PC. Copy the PIPartAligner folder and save to a suitable directory location, for example: C:\Program Files\Renishaw \PIPart Aligner

8 8 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro Installing PIPartAligner (Renishaw OMV Pro) Open Renishaw OMV Pro. From the menu bar select Tools > Add-In Manager. This will open the Add-Ins and Scripts dialog box. Select Browse and navigate to: C:\Program Files\Renishaw\Renishaw OMV \sys\exec64\Add-Ins Select and run: RunPIPartAligner.pi_mac This will add a selectable RunPIPartAligner option within the Add-Ins and Scripts dialog box. Click to select the RunPIPartAligner tick box and click OK. This will add a PIPartAligner tab button below the menu icons within the Renishaw OMV Pro application.

9 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 9 Opening PIPartAligner (Renishaw OMV) A session of Renishaw OMV containing an alignment must be open in order to start a PIPartAligner session. Navigate to the location containing the PIPartAligner folder, for example: C:\Program Files\Renishaw \PIPart Aligner Double click on the PIPartAligner.exe file to open the application. Alternatively, create a desktop shortcut to PIPartAligner.exe and double click the desktop icon to open the application. Opening PIPartAligner (Renishaw OMV Pro) A session of Renishaw OMV Pro containing an alignment must be open in order to start a PIPartAligner session. Click the PIPartAligner tab button to open the application. Creating a part alignment Within an open session of Renishaw OMV or Renishaw OMV Pro, create the required measurement and alignment. All available alignment types are valid. In the image below, plane, line and circle features have been measured to enable a Geometric PLP (plane line point) alignment. Post process the session containing the alignment and run the resulting program on the CNC machine tool. Load the measured results from the component into Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro) using the standard procedure. The actual part alignment will be calculated within the software and may now be used by PIPartAligner.

10 10 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro Applying the part alignment Ensure the open session of Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro) contains a measured part and an active alignment. Open PIPartAligner using the steps outlined previously. The PIPartAligner application dialog will open and will list the alignments from the open OMV (or OMV Pro) session. Alignment1 This is the alignment which represents the measured workpiece position. Use the drop-down menu to select the required alignment. Alignment2 This is the alignment that is to be used as the base alignment. Use the drop-down menu to select the required alignment. BestFit data is taken from the Delta Transformation within Renishaw OMV or Renishaw OMV Pro. (See the Info tab in Renishaw OMV or Renishaw OMV Pro.) For all other alignments, data is taken from the transformation section.

11 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 11 Co-ordinates Values within the generated program can be relative to CAD co-ordinates or machine co-ordinates. Select the appropriate radio button to determine which co-ordinates to use. Result The Result area shows the values to which the machine will be aligned. These values are calculated when the output file is generated. Export to Use the drop-down menu to select the machine tool controller type on which the generated NC program file will run and then select NCProgram. Select a location on the PC to save the generated NC program file. When run on the CNC machine tool, this file will update the NC control to use the alignment from the Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro) session. Any NC programs executed subsequently on the CNC machine tool will use this alignment. NOTE: Users need to ensure that the NC machine program does not reset or clear the alignment, as the NC cutting program may contain code to cancel or overwrite the PIPartAligner alignments.

Available templates are located in the same folder as the PIPartAligner application, for example: C:\Program Files\Renishaw\PIPart Aligner\x64\PIPartAligner Open the folder named: NCProgram Templates Select the required control type. The example below is taken from the Mazak folder (file name 8888.eia). (Generated <date> <time>) is a time stamp indicating when the alignment program was generated. (Partname <measure>) is the name of the active measures list. See the on-line help within Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro) for information on how to add a new measure name. (Number of Digits: 5) indicates the number of decimal places for the result. In this example 5 decimal places will be used.

13 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 13 (Set Workplane On TWP EXTENDED RPY) G69 G49 G53G0Z0.0 G53X Y0.0 (Feature Work Coordinates On) G68.2 P1 Q123 X<X> Y<Y> Z<Z> I<AngX> J<AngY> K<AngZ> G53.1 This part of the template is applying the alignment in the required format for the selected control type. <X> is the calculated transformed result for the X axis. <Y> is the calculated transformed result for the Y axis. <Z> is the calculated transformed result for the Z axis. <AngX> is the calculated rotated transformation in the X axis. <AngY> is the calculated rotated transformation in the Y axis. <AngZ> is the calculated rotated transformation in the Z axis. M99 returns to the main NC program to execute the cutting code with the new alignment active. To alter a template to suit a different alignment method Modify the template to the alignment method required. In the example below, G68 is used with a rotation around Z only. This alignment was created using a 2D Best Fit method. 15 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 15 PowerMILL Output files can also be generated for use in Delcam s PowerMILL application with the transformation of each part exported to PowerMILL as a workplane. This workplane is transformed around the world co-ordinate system, although it can also be transformed relative to another workplane if one exists and is active. Open PowerMILL. In the PIPartAligner dialog select Create workplane in PowerMILL.

17 PIPartAligner for Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro 17 Language PIPartAligner is available in all languages supported by Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro and will run in the same language the main application is set to operate in. To amend the operating language of Renishaw OMV (or Renishaw OMV Pro), close any open sessions of the application, and select Edit > Language from the menu bar. This will open the List of all available languages dialog. Select the required language and select OK. The operating language of the application will be changed immediately: there is no requirement to restart the application. Compatibility At present, PIPartAligner is compatible with the following CNC controllers: Fanuc 31i Heidenhain Mazak Siemens Please contact your local Renishaw distributor if your controller type is not currently supported. NOTE: The templates supplied within the application provide one method of aligning a component. As each controller can have several methods, PIPartAligner can be configured as necessary to suit individual requirements.
