1 Navigating and Logging Out of Meditech There are some basic tips when using Meditech: There are times when Meditech requires a command and it will not recognize the command if it is lower case and it expects upper case. I tend to use my cap lock key and type in all caps unless I specifically need a lower case character. Meditech uses functions keys for certain functions within different modules. Sometimes there is a tool bar or key stroke combinations that also can be used as an alternative to the function key but sometimes the function key must be entered. The PCI Quick Reference Guide is another good resource for references and navigating in PCI. We also have a laminated template that can be placed above the function keys on your keyboard to use as a guide for the function keys. The function keys that are used the most are: Shift F8 Docum F9 Look up F10 Delete F11 Exit F12 OK/File Shift/F6 This will display any documentation for any field or screen This will delete a line. Joins a line (Used when editing dictation) See scanned template for full key. Note there are 3 lines one for the function key, one for Shift key + the function key and the last for Control key + the function key. Navigating within PCI: The arrow keys are used extensively for navigating. When wanting to drill down to see additional information you right arrow in or double click, to back out of an area, you left arrow out, to navigate down on a page, you use the down arrow or page down and if you want to go up on the page again, you use the up arrow or page up. There is also a toolbar on the right side of the page with the arrows which can be access with your mouse.

3 Labs We display our labs in 3 different ways. The first way is under the Laboratory main heading with any applicable subheadings, the second is in a flowchart format either under a department heading or as part of a health management program and the final way is through our Visual Flow Sheet (VFS). The first type of labs, you double click or right arrow to drill down into the data source selected to see additional data.

4 Right arrow in on sodium: This will bring up all sodium lab values for this patient, with the date, time, result, flag and also a graph of the results displayed for the past 4 years.

5 The second method is our regular flow chart format where you double click any lab value on the flowchart or highlight a line and right arrow to see the full lab that value came from (ex. Primary Care Labs). Full lab results

6 The last way we display labs is in the Visual Flow Sheet (VFS) which has hover technology which allows you can hover over the lab value(s) with the mouse and see the reference ranges but you can also double click the particular lab value in the box to link to Meditech to see the full lab and return to the VFS by clicking the. Hovering over the value will bring up the reference range. If there is a + in the box, that means there are multiple values for that time frame and the most recent is displayed in the box. By hovering over the box you can see there are 2 lab values and the reference ranges.

7 By double clicking on the value, another box pops up with the 2 values with the flags along with the date and time.

8 By double clicking on one of the values, the full lab will display. To get back to the VFS, X out of out the lab page or F11. Meditech Session Management Meditech will systematically back you out of the application and/or certain screens based on pre-determined time out settings. The initial login pages are very short timeout settings so if you do not make a selection, you will be backed out very quickly. If you are in a patient record, after a period of inactivity you will start to be backed out and at some point you will be backed totally out of Meditech. There is an option to suspend your session for up to four hours by clicking the icon that looks like a calendar on the right hand toolbar. When you click on the icon a box will pop up. If you select session management, it will lock your session for up to 4 hours. You will be required to enter your Meditech password to unlock your session so you can be returned to PCI at the location you locked your session.

9 Logging out of Meditech Normally, you can back out of any screen using your F11 (exit) function key or the X in the upper right hand corner until the login screen, then press the enter key until the screen goes away. Within other modules, if there is a zero or some a requirement to put an X to Exit, you may be required to use those specific commands on those pages. Note: The X is gray so that is why you must press the enter key at this point to make this page close.

10 Exiting a Meditech workstation safely if locked up: Right click on the blue bar on the very top of the page. Click on Workstation Menus Click on Options Click on Exit. NOTE: This should not be used as a routine method to exit Meditech but only as a last resort if unable to safely exit Meditech normally.
