3 BUILDING SEARCH There are multiple options to use for a building search, including: A. Find a Campus Location i. Open Find a Location Menu 1. From the Campus Map window on the left, open the Find a Location Pane to search locations on campus. ii. Find a Campus Location 1. In the Find a Location menu, click the drop-down arrow which best suits your search need: a. Building Search: i. Search for a location by building name (including partial building name), building number, or use-type. Examples might include: classroom for the Whitehall Classroom Building, Tower for all buildings with tower in the building name, 32 for Main Building (Visitor Center), or library for a listing of all libraries on campus. ii. Click the checkbox Sort by ID to sort the results in ascending order based on their 4-digit building number and/or the checkbox No Picture to toggle building photographs. b. Building List: i. Search for buildings on campus from a building list. By default the list is in alphabetical order. Click the checkbox Sort by ID to sort the list in ascending order based on their 4-digit building number and/or the checkbox No Picture to toggle building photographs. 2. Click on a building in the search results to select and zoom to it. Page 3 of 14

4 GRAPHICAL SELECTION INFORMATION The Graphical Selection Information is accessed by dynamically searching for buildings. This view provides access to an Interactive Building Selection. A. Interactive Building Selection i. Open the Interactive Map Information Window 1. In the map view, click on a building to open the building s Map Information Window. The map will automatically zoom to the building. a. The Map Information Window includes additional, detailed information for your selection including the building name, number, address, a photograph of the building, and a link to the building s efacts (electronic Facility Technology System) page. 5 GENERAL SYSTEM OPERATION General System Operation provides details and examples of the navigation and view options available within the efacts 2-click Interactive Building Information Map. A. Navigation i. Zoom Slider 1. The Zoom Slider is located on the top left corner of the map. Clicking on + zooms in and - zooms out. ii. Home Button 1. Located directly under the Zoom Slider, the Home button returns the map to the default view and zoom level. iii. Zoom 1. General Zoom a. You can manually zoom with the keyboard plus and/or minus keys or by scrolling the mouse wheel. 2. Zoom In one level a. Double-click any area of interest on the map to zoom in one level only. i. Continue double-clicking to zoom in one level at a time up to seven levels. 3. Zoom In to an area a. Press and hold SHIFT on the keyboard. b. With SHIFT held, click and hold in the map and drag the mouse over the area of interest to zoom in. 4. Zoom Out of an area a. Press and hold SHIFT and CTRL on the keyboard. b. With SHIFT and CTRL held, click and hold in the map and drag the mouse over the area of interest to zoom out. 5. Zoom In close and center map a. Press and hold SHIFT on the keyboard. b. With SHIFT held, click on the location of interest to zoom in and center. iv. Pan 1. The Pan Tool will allow you to grab and move the map. a. Click anywhere on the map to grab and drag the map to any desired location. 2. Manual pan is functional with keyboard arrow keys. a. Click either up, down, left, or right arrow keys to move around the map. Page 5 of 14

6 3. If Pan Arrows are enabled, click on the arrow on the side of the screen to pan the map in the direction indicated. To enable pan arrows, check the Show Pan Arrows box in the Settings tab. v. ipad 1. The Scale Slider works the same on the ipad (any version) by using the scale slider to click for zoom, drag for zoom, or use the plus or minus icons to zoom in or out. 2. Manual zoom on the ipad is functional by pinching the screen either in or out. 3. The Pan Tool on the ipad functions by sliding the screen in any direction. 4. The scroll capabilities (used for lists exceeding the extent frame) function by using either one, or two fingers to slide the list up or down. B. View i. Screen View Divider 1. The Screen Divider separates the Navigation Pane from the Map View. Use the Screen Divider to change your view at any time. a. Click and drag the Screen View Divider to shrink or grow either view. i. Note: The click and drag feature is not available on ipads. ii. Screen View Selector 1. The Screen View Selector will allow you to set the view of the map as either standard (default), grow, or shrink. Use the Screen View Selector to change your view at any time. It is located in the bottom left corner of the screen. a. Standard View is the default view with the Campus Map window on the left and the map view on the right. b. Grow View hides the map view and maximizes the Campus Map window. c. Shrink View hides the Campus Map window and maximizes the map view. iii. Change Map Button 1. The Change Map button is located in the bottom left of the map view. It allows you to change the base map. 2. Click the Change Map button to expand and select a base map. Page 6 of 14

7 3. There are seven base map options: a. Base Map the default view b. Perspective View shows buildings in 2.5D (cannot be rotated) Page 7 of 14

9 f. Aerial Imagery g. Aerial Imagery with labels also displays building and road labels CAMPUS MAPPING TOOLS Campus Mapping Tools provides details on about the various tools available within the efacts 2- click Interactive Building Information Map s Campus Map pane. A. Measuring i. The Measuring tab contains three tools. Page 9 of 14

10 ii. Area allows you to draw a polygon on the map and measures its area. Select the unit of measurement from the drop down menu to the right (acres, square miles, square kilometers, hectares, square yards, square feet, square meter). iii. Distance allows you to draw a line on the map and measures its distance. Select the unit of measurement from the drop down menu to the right (miles, kilometers, feet, meters, yards, nautical miles). iv. Location allows you to click a point on the map and returns it longitude and latitude. Select either decimal degrees or degrees, minutes, seconds from the drop down menu on the right. v. The Clear Map button clears any measurement polygon, line, or point currently on the map. B. Drawing i. There are various tools available in the Drawing tab that allow you to draw different shapes on the map. Keep in mind that these edits are temporary and will be lost if you close or refresh your browser. ii. When the Drawing tab is open, interactive building selection is disabled. Draw iii. Select the type of shape you would like to draw. Clicking More Tools expands more options. Page 10 of 14

11 iv. Click on the map to draw the shape. Some drawing tools, such as Polygon, require you to double click to complete the shape. v. You can add labels by entering text in the text box, clicking the Add Text button, and then clicking on the map where you would like the text to go. Edit vi. Click on the Edit shape, Measure shape, or Delete shape buttons then the shape you would like to manipulate. vii. The Edit shape button lets you resize, rotate, edit the vertices of, or reposition a shape. viii. Click and drag any of the four squares that appear around the shape to resize it. ix. Click and drag the square that appears above the middle of the shape to rotate it. x. Vertices (the points that make up the shape) can be repositioned by clicking on them and dragging. xi. Click and drag the interior of the shape to reposition the entire shape. xii. Click the Measure shape button and then the shape to measure it. The results appear in the Measuring tab (see Measuring above). xiii. Click the Delete shape button and then the shape to remove it from the map. Settings xiv. The various tabs under Settings allow you to change the appearance of by changing their symbol, color, etc. These settings must be changed before a shape is drawn, shapes cannot be edited after they are drawn on the map. 12 xv. Point lets you select the symbol, size, and color of points you draw. xvi. Line lets you select the size, style, and color of lines you draw. xvii. Polygon lets you select the fill percentage, style, and color of polygons you draw. xviii. Text lets you select the size, font, and color of text you add to the map. xix. Clear Map removes all shapes and text from the map. This action cannot be undone. C. Layers i. Click the checkboxes to toggle the Construction, Construction Labels, and Planned Construction layers on the map. D. Printing i. The Printing tab allows you to export your current map view to a PDF or JPG file and save or print it. Internet Explorer is recommended for printing. Disable the Pop-up Blocker in Internet Explorer by going to Internet Options > Privacy and unchecking the Turn on Pop-up Blocker box. ii. Select your desired file format and dimensions from the Print dropdown menu. iii. Your file will open in a new browser tab. From there you can print or save it to your computer. iv. There is also a link to several pre-made printable campus maps in various sizes and file formats. E. Settings i. The Settings tab allows you to toggle various options for the map view by clicking their checkbox. Page 12 of 14

13 Show Zoom Slider toggles the Zoom Slider in the top left of the map view. Show Home Button toggles the Home Button in the top left of the map view. Show Locate Button toggles the Locate Button in the top left of the map view. Clicking this button will show your current location on the map, if available. Hide Change Map Button toggles the Change Map Button in the bottom left of the map view. Show Pan Arrows toggles the Pan Arrows in the corners of the map view. Clicking one of these arrows will pan the map in that direction. Show Scalebar adds a scale bar to the bottom center of the map view. Enable Google Street View lets you click on the map and see the Google Street View of that location, if available. ii. The Settings tab also contains a legend to help you identify features on the map. Page 13 of 14

14 CAMPUS MAP PERSONALIZATION Campus Map Personalization provides ways to modify the map s default view, building selection, and zoom level. The customized URL you create can be saved or shared with others for quick future reference. A. URL Keyword Personalization To Personalize a URL: 1. Type the interactive campus map URL: 2. Append the desired suffix (see table below) to the end of the URL Ex) 3. Click Enter to generate the personalized view Bonus: For multiple personalizations, use & to compound suffixes. Ex) Personalization Description Suffix & Examples Change the Preferred View. Options are: Base Perspective Grey Suffix:?Map=[preferred view] BlackWhite Map Type Examples: UKOwned Aerial AerialLabels See above for a comparison of the available base maps. Zoom Level Building Selection Selection Highlight Color Change the zoom level between 0 8. This setting is overridden when used in conjunct with the building selection keywords. Select one or more buildings to highlight and zoom to. First specify the buildings to highlight. Then, specify the RGB value to highlight specified building(s) in that color.
