Be patient, it may take awhile to open. Use Windows session credentials to Login. 2) At the Certificate Warning screen, Click Ignore to continue using the current SSL certificate. 3) From the Home / Inventory screen, select VMs and Templates.

5) Either right-click on the folder and select New Virtual Machine or select the Create new virtual machine link in the middle pane. 6) Select Typical on the Configuration page and click Next.

2 (If you don t see the above screen after logging in, click on the Home Icon in the address bar.) 4) In the left pane navigate to the CIS231 folder and select the folder within that folder that was assigned to you. 5) Either right-click on the folder and select New Virtual Machine or select the Create new virtual machine link in the middle pane. 6) Select Typical on the Configuration page and click Next. 7) Assign a name to your Virtual Machine. Use your initials followed by SRV (i.e,: if your initials are JMT then your virtual machine s name would be: JMT-SRV ) Click Next 9) Select K Building as the Host/Cluster and click Next. 10) Accept the vmconsole-cis.lbcc.local as the Specific Host and click Next. 11) Accept the VMConsole-CIS for the destination storage and click Next 12) Select Windows as the Guest Operating System and use the drop down menu to select the version of Windows being installed. 13) Click Next. 14) At the Create Network Connections screen you should accept the default values, as displayed below and then click Next. 15) The next screen requires that you configure the virtual disk size. The default size is sufficient do not change it. Change the provision to Thin Provision and then click on Next.

16) Review the Virtual machine settings. If necessary, make changes otherwise click Finish.

4 5) You should eventually see a see a window like the one displayed below. If you see this window, accept the Language, Time, Currency and Keyboard defaults values (English, English and US) and click Next and continue with step 7. If you initially see a DHCP prompt with a spinning bar and then eventually see a Symantec Ghost window instead of the below window, continue with step 6. 6) Complete step 6 ONLY if you see the Symantec Ghost window instead of the Windows Server 2008 Window displayed in step 5. Ensure the ISO file is still selected. If it s not selected, re-select it. If necessary, refer to step 2 on the previous page for instructions. Close all open windows within the Virtual OS and wait about 10 seconds; the system should automatically restart. Return to step 5. 7) Click Install Now. 8) Select Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Full Installation (2 nd on list) and click Next. 9) Accept the License Terms and click Next. 10) Select Custom (Advanced) 11) Select the Drive Options (Advanced) to change the disk allocation space. 12) Click New 13) Type in the Size box and click Apply. (If prompted with a message regarding additional partitions, click Ok) 14) Select the 34.x GB partition and click next. About 8 minutes into this step the system will reboot. DO NOTHING. The installation will continue on its own. A few minutes later it will reboot itself again DO NOTHING. The screen may stay black for awhile be patient. 15) The next screen will indicate that the user s password must be changed, click OK 16) Enter the Administrator s password (twice); use Microsoft! At the message indicating your password has been changed click OK 17) A screen displaying the Initial Configuration Tasks will be displayed. Complete each of the following tasks: (note: should you close this window it can be reopened from the command prompt with the oobe command.)

5 Set Time Zone: Change the time zone to GMT-05:00 Eastern Time (US & Canada) and displayed. Enable Automatic Updating and Feedback -- Choose to manually configure settings and change only the Windows Automatic Updating setting; set it to Never Check for updates (not recommended). - (In the real world this would be configured differently but for class purposes this works best for now) You will need to download and install all important updates but you will NOT do this during class. This is very time consuming and should be done outside of class time. Provide a computer name. Use the following naming convention: YourInitials-SRV Leave the workgroup information as-is for now. For now, those are the only tasks you will configure and the last step requires a reboot. Reboot now. 18) After the system reboots, login as the Administrator. (If necessary, refer to the Keys to remember box on page one of these instructions.) Minimize or close any open Windows on the Desktop and then Install VMware Tools: VM \ Guest \ Install-Upgrade VMWare Tools 19) An Auto Startup dialog box will (eventually) appear (be patient). Double-click on the Auto Run Setup to launch the installation wizard. Use the wizard to perform a typical installation of the VmWare Tools. This will improve the performance of your virtual OS. You will be prompted to restart the OS at the completion of the installation. Restart now. 20) If your mouse still does not easily flow easily within and outside the guest OS, complete the following steps: Right click on the desktop and click Personalize. When the Personalization window appears click Display Settings. When the Screen Resolution window appears click Advanced Settings. Click the Properties button under Adapter Type. When the Properties window appears click the Driver tab and then click Update Driver. In the Update Driver window click Browse my computer for driver software.

6 Browse to the following path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\wddm_video and click OK to install the driver. Once installed the machine will need to be restarted. 21) Login to the system and activate your product key from the properties of my computer. After completing all of the above, confirm to me that you can access the Internet from this virtual operating system, confirm that you ve installed the VmWare Tools and confirm that you ve activated your key. Before next week complete all important updates on this virtual OS.
