10 Operting instructions Operting instructions These operting instructions describe your hndset nd its functions on your communictions system. All functions tht cn be performed vi your hndset re described here. If some of the required functions re not vilble on your hndset, it my be due to one of the following: The function is not configured for you or your hndset - plese contct your system dministrtor. Your communictions pltform does not feture this function - plese contct your Siemens contrct prtner to upgrde. Conducting clls the bsic functions You cn use your hndset to mke both internl nd externl clls. Internl clls re clls tht you mke within the rnge of communiction system, e. g. within your compny, you mke between networked communiction systems, e. g. to different compny loctions. Externl clls re clls tht you conduct with users of the public telephone network. 1

11 Conducting clls the bsic functions Activting/dectivting the hndset Press the On-hook key until the ctivtion or dectivtion is confirmed by crescendo tone sequence. Note: The hndset cn only be fully switched off when removed from the chrging shell. After switching off mobile phone, plce it in the chrging shell; with PIN "0000" it will switch on immeditely nd is redy for opertion. If the PIN is not "0000", you must first enter the PIN. Only then is the mobile phone redy for opertion. When hndset tht is redy for opertion is plced in the chrging shell it goes to idle sttus nd shows the idle disply. If your preferred lnguge for the disply texts is not set, you cn set this yourself. If mobile phone tht is switched off is plced in the chrging shell, it will switch on. If the PIN is still the sme s the fctory defult (0000), the phone is redy for opertion. If the PIN is not the sme s the fctory defult, the PIN must be entered to mke the mobile phone redy for opertion. Displying the connection qulity The strength of the incoming signl is displyed by the "receive field strength" icon in on or messge sttus: No receive field strength Ò Ñ Ð Low receive field strength 50% receive field strength 100% receive field strength The rdio rnge is different indoors nd outdoors ( pge 97). Plese consult your system dministrtor in the event of rnge problems. 2

Typing errors cnnot be corrected. If you mke typing error: press the On-hook key. The user nswers. Conduct the cll. Dil first, then seize the line Enter the required phone no. nd correct individul chrcters s necessry using the "Delete" Disply key. The following functions re vilble while you re entering the phone number: "Insert Puse" (Insert dil puse, e.g. between the prefix nd phone number or when checking milbox.) "Insert TBR" (irrelevnt) "Copy to Directory" (sve the phone number in the hndset s redil list) Note: c or u p This dilling preprtion function is lso vilble with number redil nd dilling using the hndset redil list. Press the Tlk key or Spekerphone key within 30 seconds. The user will be clled. The user nswers. Conduct the cll. Mnul number redil z D or E c With Gigset S1 professionl the lst five numbers dilled, or with Gigset SL 1 professionl the lst ten numbers, re utomticlly sved in the redil list. Cll the redil list. Press the top or bottom of the control key to select the required phone number. Press the Tlk key. 3

The Cllbck function enbles you to contct him s soon s he hngs up or reuses his telephone. Plese note tht line is signlled s busy when it is being clled by nother user. You cn continue to use your hndset without restriction when cllbck hs been booked. You cn lso send cllbck request s messge. This function cn lso be clled by entering the code ( pge 92). p Cllbck Booking cllbck The number is dilled. You her the busy tone or the user does not nswer. Sve the cllbck request. Press the On-hook key to end the process. You receive Cllbck cll c You will receive the cllbck, s soon s the user you wnt hs hung up or the first time he uses his telephone. The following ppers on your hndset disply "Cllbck:...". Press the Tlk key. The connection is set up. Note: Cllbcks re repeted until connection is estblished or until the cllbck is deleted. A hndset cn initite up to five cllbcks nd cn be the destintion for up to five cllbck requests. If these conditions re met, ny further cllbcks re rejected. Deleting cllbck request c Press the Tlk key. The enquiry is ended nd you return to the cll "onhold" either: The second user hngs up. You re reconnected to the first user. or: Menu Option 1 Cll the system menu. > < Quit nd return? [ Select nd confirm the menu item. Option 2 R Press the R key. You re reconnected to the first prtner. The second prtner hers the busy tone nd hngs up; Gigset hndset hngs up utomticlly. However, you cn lso toggle between the prtners ( pge 60), set up conference ( pge 61) or trnsfer the witing prtner to the second prtner ( pge 58). 5

During the enquiry you cn book cllbck ( pge 4), ctivte cll witing ( pge 55) or override( pge 57). Answering cll k cor u Your hndset rings nd/or vibrtes. The cller informtion ppers on the disply. The nme nd/or telephone number of the cller cn be displyed. The following options re vilble for nswering cll: The hndset is in the chrging shell: remove the hndset from the chrging shell (functions only if "Auto Answer" is ctive pge 26). The hndset is not in the chrging shell. Press the Tlk key or Spekerphone key. When you hve nswered the cll you cn trnsfer the cll ( pge 58), plce the cll on hold nd consult with someone else in the room ( pge 60), plce the cll on hold nd cll second prtner ( pge 5) in order to forwrd or toggle the cll ( pge 60) or to set up conference ( pge 61). Rejecting cll Reject cll If you do not wish to be disturbed, you cn reject the cll. Confirm the messge displyed with one of the two Disply keys. The cll is rejected nd the cller hers the busy tone. 6

16 Conducting clls the bsic functions Plcing cll in cll pickup group You cn use your hndset to pick up clls to telephones within your cll pickup group (set by the service engineer). This is lso possible when you re conducting cll. Prerequisite: You her tht telephone in your cll pickup group is ringing. c Press the Tlk key. The messge "Cll for:" ppers on the disply. Menu Cll the system menu. > < Group Pickup? [ Select nd confirm the menu item. p Conduct the cll. or k Ending cll Press the On-hook key or plce the hndset in the chrging shell. The cll chrges re displyed, depending on the communiction system. Cll forwrding This function is for when you leve your desk for while nd wnt certin clls to be forwrded to your new loction. The forwrding destintion for internl clls cn be ny internl or externl phone number. The destintion number is usully n externl phone number becuse you cn be reched internlly nytime by mens of your hndset. Activting cll forwrding c Menu Press the Tlk key. The keypd lock turns off utomticlly when cll comes in nd turns bck on when the cll hs ended. # Press the hsh key until the ctivtion or dectivtion is confirmed by crescendo tone sequence. A key icon on the disply indictes tht keypd lock is ctive. Leving the rdio network After leving the rdio network The bse nme flshes on the disply. The hndset repetedly ttempts to synchronise with bse. The intervls between synchronistion ttempts increse on ccount of the integrted power sving function. You cn switch off your hndset to sve the bttery. The dte nd time settings will be lost. 9

When the key is llocted two functions, press the right or left side of the key to select the corresponding function. Disply key ssignment depends on the operting sttus. Inserting the btteries Two btteries re supplied with the Gigset S1 professionl while Gigset SL 1 professionl comes with single bttery pck. The btteries re supplied unchrged. They re chrged in the hndset. Note: Plese observe the sfety notes on the bck cover. Only use pproved btteries. Alwys replce both btteries t the sme time nd only use two btteries of the sme type/ from the sme mnufcturer! Open the bttery comprtment in dust-free environment only. Your telephone directory entries nd ll settings remin stored even if you remove the btteries. The dte nd time settings will be reset. Only remove the btteries if they re defective. Any unnecessry removl of the btteries reduces their lifespn. Opening the bttery comprtment nd inserting the btteries Press down on the ridged surfce nd slide the cover from the bttery comprtment. Chrging nd using the btteries To chrge the btteries, insert the hndset into the chrging shell with the keypd fcing forwrds. Cution: Only use the relevnt pproved power supply units for operting the chrging shell in Gigset S1 professionl. (Order numbers see pge 97) Use the Gigset Chrger SL chrging shell with integrted power supply for Gigset SL 1 professionl (Order numbers see pge 97). The chrging sttus is indicted by the chrge sttus disply. This flshes during chrging: = Btteries empty e V U Btteries 33% chrged Btteries 66% chrged Btteries 100% chrged Note: Initil chrging: Chrge the btteries for t lest 5 hours without brek, regrdless of the chrging sttus icon. Without replcing it in the chrging shell, use the hndset until the "bttery low" beep is herd. This ction ligns the chrge sttus disply with the operting times of the btteries. To ttin full operting nd chrging times: Without replcing it in the chrging shell, use the hndset until the "bttery low" beep is herd. For future chrging: you cn plce your hndset in the chrging shell ech time it is used. Chrging is electroniclly controlled which ensures tht the btteries re chrged optimlly. 14

Setting the hndset volume When selecting the menu, the tone sounds t the current setting in spekerphone mode. It cn be dectivted by selecting the option once more. Press nd hold the On-hook key to end the process. Activting nd dectivting silent lert In Gigset SL 1 professionl. you cn ctivte the silent lert feture in ddition to ringer settings or else insted of ringer settings.
