Downloading map files to mobile device There are following ways of downloading a.cmf map file to your ios device: 1.1 Copy.cmf file to CarryMap Observer mobile application using itunes - Run itunes application and connect your iphone, ipad or ipod touch to your PC - Select Apps tab for your mobile device in itunes: - Go down to the File Sharing section and select CarryMap from the applications list: - The CarryMap documents list will be shown in the dialog on the right: - Press Add button, then browse and select the required.cmf file from the list. Or, simply drag and drop the file from the disk to the CarryMap Documents list. 1.2 Download.cmf file using a browser on the mobile device - Upload your map file to any online resource (e.g. your website, DropBox, Google Drive etc.) - In your mobile device browser open the website where you uploaded your map file - Click on a link to the map and select to download the required map file from the list 3
4 - Press Open in CarryMap : The mobile map will be downloaded and automatically open in the CarryMap Observer application and you can start using it right away. 1.3 Send.cmf file to - Send the required.cmf to your - Open the received message on your mobile device - Download the attached map file from the message - Press the downloaded file - Select Open in CarryMap : The mobile map will be automatically open in the CarryMap Observer application and you can start using it right away. 4
5 2. About the map dialog This dialog with general information is shown when you open the map on your mobile device for the first time. To view this dialog later on press Menu and select About the map from the menu list: To check whether your map has the time limit open the About map dialog - this information will be shown there. 3. Browsing the map - Zoom in/out and pan your map using pinch and swipe gestures. - Get back to the full extent by pressing the Home button - Rotate map. When your map is rotated, the north arrow becomes enabled and looks rotated, otherwise it is disabled and straight. Pressing on the arrow returns the map to the default view. 4. Measuring distances Distance can be measured in meters (kilometers) or feet (miles), go to Menu select the required units. and then Settings to The default measurement units are meters, so to change those to feet enable the Use British units option. To measure distance go to Menu 5 and select the Measure distance option.
6 The map display window will look as following: - By pressing this button the next point of the measured distance polyline will be automatically added to your current location. - This button allows cancelling your previous operation. - By pressing this button you can delete the last point added to your measured distance polyline. - This button is provided for deleting the whole measured distance polyline. The measurement result will be shown in the upper part of your map. 5. Going to specified XY coordinates The point s coordinates can be entered in degrees (DMS, DD, DDM) or in map units. Note to use spaces between values when adding coordinates in degrees. When adding coordinates with western longitude and southern latitude note to add the negative sign (-) or W/S letter correspondingly before the coordinate value. Example: The geographic coordinates 81º 9' 20, 8" Е and 54º 47' 27,1" N in the Go to XY dialog should be written as follows: ,8 (in the Longitude filed) and ,1 (in the Latitude field). In turn, the geographic coordinates 117º 21 36,83 W and 35º N in the Go to XY dialog should be written as follows: ,83 (in the Longitude filed) and (in the Latitude field) or: ,83 W (in the Longitude filed) and (in the Latitude field). To enter coordinates and to select measurement units press Menu option: and then select the Go to XY 6
7 If the coordinate system for your map has not been specified or is unknown, the Go to XY option will be disabled: If you enable the Add pushpin to point option, the pushpin will be added to the location with specified coordinates. 6. Identifying features When you press on the feature you can see the dialog showing the brief information about this feature (the display field info). To open the full identification dialog and see all attributes of the feature, press button in the upper left part of the appeared panel. To view the list of all features located within the selected area on the map, press Results in the Identify dialog. Note that attributes hidden in ArcMap will not be shown in the feature Identify dialog. The Identify option will also not work for layers specified as not selectable in ArcMap. 7. GPS positioning To enable GPS location option of your device press button. The point indicating your current location will be shown on the map. If coordinates of your current location are beyond the current map extent, the appropriate warning message appears: 7
8 If you press this button again within the next five seconds, the GPS location option will be disabled. To track your locations on the move enable the Always center on GPS option. To do so go to Menu and then to Settings: To disable the sleep mode of your device while using the GPS positioning function on the go the Never lock screen option should be enabled: 8
9 If the coordinate system of your map data is unknown or not defined, the GPS location option will be unavailable. The appropriate warning message will appear: 8. Pushpins CarryMap Observer application allows collecting point data by adding pushpins to the mobile maps. 9
10 8.1 Adding pushpins There are several methods of adding pushpins to your map: - Adding pushpins on the map. Long press on the required point of your map to open the following menu dialog: Select Add pushpin to point to open the following pushpin editing dialog: Enter the name for your pushpin, add its description and select the pushpin symbol color, if required. Press Add to see your pushpin on the map. 10
11 - Adding pushpins using the Identify dialog. In the Identify dialog press the Add pushpin option to open the Edit pushpin dialog: Enter the required data and then press Add to see your pushpin on the map. - Adding pushpins at your GPS location. Go to Menu and select Add pushpin to my location. In the appeared Edit pushpin dialog enter the pushpin name and its description, if required. The pushpin will be added at your current GPS location, though GPS location option of your device can be disabled. - Adding pushpins to points with specified coordinates. In Menu select the Go to XY option. In the appeared dialog enter the required coordinates and enable the Add pushpin to this location option: The pushpin will be added to the point with specified coordinates. You can enter both geographic and map coordinates for your pushpin. In the latter case enable the Map coordinates option. 8.2 Exporting/importing pushpins Collected pushpins can be exported/imported to the KMZ files for exchanging purpose and using the collected data in ArcGIS, Google Earth and other applications. In Menu select the Pushpins option. 11
12 The list of all pushpins added to your map will be shown: - Exporting pushpins: Press Export button and enter the name for the KMZ file, to which all pushpins of the current map will be exported, then press Export. The following dialog will be prompted: 12
13 - Importing pushpins: Press Import and select the required KMZ file from the list of the existing KMZ files for importing. The following dialog will be prompted: 8.3 Sharing pushpins - Copying exported pushpins to the computer. Exported pushpin points in KMZ format can be copied to the computer using itunes. Run itunes application and connect your iphone, ipad or ipod touch to your PC. Select Apps tab for your mobile device in itunes and go down to the File Sharing section and select CarryMap from the applications list. The CarryMap documents list will be shown in the dialog on the right: Select the KMZ file and press Save to button, then browse to the folder on the computer to save the KMZ file in this folder. Or, simply drag and drop the KMZ file from the CarryMap Documents list to the folder on the disk. 13
14 - Sending pushpins by . There is an option to send pushpins by . In order to send KMZ files with the pushpins by , there should be KMZ files in the CarryMap Observer application on your mobile device. If you do not have KMZ file, you will need to Export your pushpins to KMZ first. After that long press on the KMZ file in the Export pushpin dialog. The following dialog will be prompted: Select the Send to mail option, enter the required address and press Send. - Copying pushpins from the computer to CarryMap Observer You can use any existing points saved as KMZ files as pushpins in your mobile maps. For that, KMZ files can be copied from the computer to the CarryMap Observer application using itunes and then imported to pushpins in the map. Run itunes application and connect your iphone, ipad or ipod touch to your PC. Select Apps tab for your mobile device in itunes and go down to the File Sharing section and select CarryMap from the applications list. The CarryMap documents list will be shown in the dialog on the right. 14
15 Press Add button, then browse and select the required KML or KMZ file from the list. Or, simply drag and drop the file from the disk to the CarryMap Documents list: To display the copied pushpins on the map, select the Pushpins option in CarryMap Observer Menu and Import them to the map. 9. Searching for features The Search dialog is opened by pressing button: CarryMap Observer allows searching for features by attributes and by pushpins. If you have the custom search specified in your mobile map, select the appropriate tab, and enter the required text in the search line. 15
16 The search results will be shown as a list or grouped by layers: Besides, CarryMap allows searching for features by subtypes and domains specified for feature classes in ArcGIS. 16
17 10. Zoom scale settings These settings allow managing the feature zoom scales. They can be found in Menu - Settings: Enable the Zoom to feature option to specify the required maximum zoom scale. As a result, found feature will be shown on the map not larger than the specified maximum zoom value. You can select the following options of specifying the zoom scale: - Set default scale - with this option selected, the zoom scale for the found features will be calculated automatically, so that the whole feature is shown at the center of the device screen. - Set current scale - the current map scale will be used as the maximum zoom scale. - Set custom scale - the maximum zoom scale can be set by pressing the number indicating the scale value and then entering the required new value. For example, you need to set 1: as the maximum zoom scale for your features. To do this press the number showing the recent scale and enter the new value
18 The new zoom scale value will be promptly changed in the Settings tab: As a result, found feature on the map will be shown not larger than at the set 1: scale: Note that for polygon and polyline features the zoom scale can be smaller than one set in the zoom scale settings. The main priority of showing such features is that they should fit the device screen. For all other features the zoom scale of the found features will not exceed the set maximum scale. 18
