1 MOBILE TWO-WAY INTERNET! THIS NEW HARDWARE WILL ONLY WORK WITH THE PROVIDED SOFTWARE. (DataStorm Professional v or higher) If you are using earlier versions of the DataStorm software please refer to the software manual for upgrade instructions.!

2 Please ensure that all the following criteria are met before installing or running the DataStorm software. Prior to Installation ensure that: All Previous versions of DataStorm software have been removed/uninstalled from your computer. You have read the DataStorm V2 Software installation manual. Available for download at: The DataStorm positioner and Direcway Modems are connected to the computer and powered on. Direcway software is running on your computer. This can normally be verified by the presence of the blue and white BE icon in your system tray next to the time display in the lower right hand corner of you windows operating system desktop. The Time and Date set on your computer are correct. Always select Single User when asked unless you have received a Special Software license other than the professional version directly from MotoSAT. You have Windows 2000 or Windows XP installed as your operating system on your computer. If you have a USB-SERIAL ADAPTER* from your positioner to your computer, it is operational and running. (* If you don t have a serial port on your computer or a straight serial connection from your computer to your positioner you likely have one of these. Some brand names are: Radio Shack, Keyspan, or Belkin.) Prior to running the DataStorm administrator ensure that: Direcway software is running on your computer. This can normally be verified by the presence of the blue and white BE icon in your system tray next to the time display in the lower right hand corner of you windows operating system desktop. Your DataStorm positioner is turned on. You are aware of the 30 day trial license and the necessity to acquire an official license key: This can be done in the software by selecting : Advanced >> Configure Server>> Set License Key or by accessing the website: Upon running the DataStorm Administrator the following are occurring: All of your values under sensors are showing numbers and values as well as all information under satellite information is showing and up. (If any values are NOT showing please check your modem connections and positioner connections as well as make sure the BE ICON is up and running.) Find Satellite is available. ( You may have to run a CALIBRATE DISH before finding satellite by clicking on configure server, calibrate sensors, and make sure dish is checked and then click next.) 1

3 UPGRADING AND INSTALLING THE DATASTORM SOFTWARE After many beta releases of the DataStorm software, DataStorm Professional v has been released. This is the first full release of the software in non-beta form. While some DataStorm users have installed beta versions of the software others have not and are still using 186c Beta or a previous version*. *(Note if your Direcway software version is and you have DataStorm software 168 or lower you MUST first contact your ISP to become TFES compliant by switching to a compliant satellite and installing a newer version of the Direcway software. Otherwise DataStorm Professional v will not function on your computer.) To help new and existing users alike, this manual will have an UPGRADE section as well as a NEW INSTALLATION section to better differentiate specific needs as well as provide appropriate steps to ensure persistent usability. UPGRADING UPGRADING TO DATASTORM PROFESSIONAL FROM VERSION 2 BETA VERSIONS OR BETA 186C AND LOWER VERSIONS UPGRADING FROM VERSION 2 BETA VERSIONS* (INCLUDING ) If you have beta tested an earlier build of the DataStorm v.2 software different steps are needed to install and run DataStorm Professional Before uninstalling your old version and installing the new version, please ensure the following steps are taken care of: You have downloaded or have on CD the DataStorm Professional software The Microsoft Windows clock is current and correct (this must be correct to ensure your license registration will work; see REGISTERING YOUR DATASTORM SOFTWARE) Your computer is connected and configured to use the DataStorm. (Modems are connected, positioner is connected, your BE icon is up and running; basically the system is ready to go and FIND SATELLITE.) No other programs are running and Anti-Virus software is disabled. Make sure the DataStorm dish is STOWED and the DataStorm software is closed. After ensuring these steps are taken care of, you must now uninstall your old version of the DataStorm v.2 software. (Make sure you are ready to reboot after uninstalling your old version of the software) 4

4 UNINSTALLING THE DATASTORM SOFTWARE (FOR AN UPGRADE) To uninstall the DataStorm software go to the Start button, All Programs, DataStorm, and Uninstall DataStorm as shown below: A confirmation box will appear to validate your choice, click YES Let the Uninstaller run through its process then click OK 5

5 You will then be prompted to RESTART your computer which you must do in order to completely uninstall the old version: NOW RESTART YOUR COMPUTER TO COMPLETE THE UNINSTALL PROCESS ***(FOR THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE PLEASE GO TO THE INSTALLING PORTION OF THIS MANUAL)*** 6

6 UPGRADING FROM BETA 186C AND LOWER VERSIONS To install from 186C Beta or lower, make sure the DataStorm dish is stowed and the software is closed. Then simply place the DataStorm 186C icon in the Recycle Bin. That s It! You can now run the installation of DataStorm Professional INSTALLING FROM AN UPGRADE OR NEWLY INSTALLING THE DATASTORM PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE. UPGRADING NOTE *NOTE: UPON FIRST RUNNING THE NEW SOFTWARE YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO PERFORM A FIRMWARE UPGRADE WHICH MUST BE COMPLETED (GO TO THE FIRMWARE SECTION OF THIS MANUAL).NO CALIBRATIONS OF THE COMPASS OR TILT SENSORS IS NEEDED IF UPGRADING THE SOFTWARE AFTER INSTALLATION. IF THE DISH WAS NOT STOWED WHEN THE SOFTWARE (DATASTORM PROFESSIONAL ) WAS INSTALLED, YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO PERFORM A CALIBRATION DISH (TEST DISH).* 7

7 INSTALLATION PROCESS FOR DATASTORM PROFESSIONAL Please note the following when installing your DataStorm software: You have downloaded or have on CD the DataStorm Professional software The Microsoft Windows clock is current and correct Your computer is connected and configured to use the DataStorm. (Modems are connected, the Positioner is connected, your BE icon is up and running; basically the system is ready to go and FIND SATELLITE.) No other programs are running and Anti-Virus software is disabled. Make sure the DataStorm dish is STOWED and the DataStorm software is closed. Install the DataStorm Software by inserting the DataStorm/ DirecWay software CD (or double clicking on the file you downloaded called DSsetup.exe) that came with your system and open the DataStorm v2 folder. Double click on the dssetup.exe file. Next, the start-up screen for the DataStorm Setup appears and begins loading. After loading, a welcome window appears. Click the Next button to advance to the next screen; 8

8 Please follow all of the instructions at the start of the installation process Read over the software licensing agreement and click Next: Make sure you have the chosen the right license based on your system s configuration: (Default for most users is SINGLE USER) 9

9 Choose where you want the DataStorm program folder installed. (We recommend the default location) Click Next here to place the program in the correct program folder; The installation process will then load and install the specific files; 10

10 Great! You re finished. Now click Finish to Restart the computer and complete installation. After the computer has rebooted you will now see the new DataStorm Administrator icon on your desktop MAKE SURE YOUR MOTOSAT CONTROLLER IS NOW ON BY PRESSING THE ROUND BUTTON ON ITS FACE AND THE BLUE LIGHT IS LIT. 11

11 REGISTERING YOUR DATASTORM SOFTWARE (MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET) Your new DataStorm software by MotoSAT has to be registered online to help us serve you better. You will need your name, permanent address, telephone number, and the name of the dealer who installed your DataStorm as well as which ISP you have chosen for internet service and a VALID ADDRESS. You must have your modems connected and the BE icon running on your Start bar for the key to be accepted. Your windows time and date must be correct in order to input your license key you receive. The license key is TIME CODED and any attempt to register the software with a key after a period of 24 hours will result in a non-valid registration attempt which indicates you must re-register in order to get the software to work* *(THIS IS WHERE YOUR REGISTRATION KEY (A 6 SECTION BLOCK OF 8 NUMBERS AND LETTERS) WILL BE SENT AFTER SUCESSFULLY COMPLETEING THE PROCESS WHICH KEY MUST BE INPUT INTO THE SOFTWARE FOR THE DATASTORM SOFTWARE TO BE REGISTERED) After installing the software, upon reboot you will be given the following prompt when starting the DataStorm software about its Licensing: YOU MUST BE ONLINE TO REGISTER! (IF YOU ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY DIRECTED TO REGISTER PLEASE CONTACT MOTOSAT S TECHNICAL SUPPORT ) IF you are online, click YES and follow the example below to complete your registration. IF YOU ARE NOT ONLINE, FOLLOW THE *DIAGRAM BELOW TO GET TO THE REGISTRATION SCREEN WITHIN THE DATASTORM SOFTWARE. *REGISTRATION WITHIN THE DATASTORM PROGRAM; CONTINUE TO THE EXAMPLE TO REGISTER 19

12 REGISTRATION EXAMPLE You will be directed to a registration process ONLINE. 1) Select your ISP: 2) Select your license* *Before September 1, 2003, anyone who downloads and installs DataStorm Professional will NOT have to pay the licensing fee for multi-user and remote capabilities. After September 1, 2003, a free Basic version of the DataStorm software will be available but WITH NO MULTI- USER/REMOTE CAPABILITES. The more advanced professional version will remain FOR A FEE with the multi-user and remote functions. 3) Read and Agree to the Licensing agreement: 20

13 4) Input your Information*: *Your *ESN number is crucial and can be found here on the back of your modems: *If your ESN number does not automatically appear you must retrieve it from the place on your modems from the picture shown above. The ESN number is 8 digits long (no more and no less) in order to continue on with the registration process. Please confirm your ESN number by double checking it on the DataStorm Advanced window under SERVER on the left-hand side. 5) Confirm your Information: 21

14 6) You will then receive confirmation that your new license key has been sent to the address you provided. Clicking next will take you to the DataStorm information page.. Now you must wait for an with your registration key. YOU CAN CHECK YOUR IN 5-10 MINUTES TO RETRIEVE YOUR KEY COPYING YOUR KEY FROM YOUR TO ACTIVATE YOUR SOFTWARE Your DataStorm licensing key will come from the following address: The of your license will look like this. You must select your key by clicking and highlighting the key portion of the as shown below: 22

15 You must copy your new registration key to the DataStorm software to register it. Next, Right click and copy the key like this: Then open up your DataStorm program and navigate to the key screen as shown below to paste your copied key from your registration . Click OK when your key has appeared below to activate the DataStorm program: 23

16 The prompt on the bottom of the DataStorm program will now change from this; To this; You have now activated and registered your DataStorm software. If you happen to ever need your registration key again, you can save your the key to a file for later use. This will ensure true mobility to your system as you travel. 24
