Emonitor measurement templates for Enpac 2-Channel Upgrade Enpac Family Product Specification Sheet Enpac is shipped to you with the latest operating system, so it will not be necessary to use these files unless there is an unusual circumstance where you lose the instrument operating system completely. New Features in Enpac Operating System Version 2.31 Autotrigger Autotrigger applies only to triggered measurements (RPM points, phase points, time-synchronous averaged points). Instead of the trigger level being fixed when the route is loaded to the Enpac 1200, the Enpac 1200 samples the trigger signal before collecting the triggered measurement and sets an appropriate trigger level automatically. Benefit With Autotrigger, the trigger signals need not be determined before loading a route. This is particularly useful when a mixture of trigger sources will be used (for example, an optical tachometer and a proximeter probe keyphasor). Data Collection Configuration Screen (Config) A Trig Level option has been added to the Data Collection Configuration screen to configure the Autotrigger feature. This option has two choices: Fixed and Automatic. Choose Automatic to turn on Autotrigger. 3 Data Collection While collecting data on a triggered point, a message is displayed while the trigger level is being sampled. Autotrigger message displays on the screen while trigger level is being sampled. Figure 2 Autotrigger message The length of time for which the trigger is sampled during autotriggering is dependent on two factors: 1. The high pass filter selected for the point. The lower the high pass filter cutoff, the longer the trigger will be sampled. 2. The Mach. Speed setting in the Data Collection Configuration screen (Config). If the Mach. Speed option is set to Normal, the maximum trigger sampling time is about one second. If the Mach. Speed option is set to Slow, the maximum trigger sampling time is about 10 seconds. The Normal setting will support autotriggering on machines running at speeds down to ~120 RPM, and the Slow setting will support autotriggering on machines running at speeds down to ~6 RPM, depending on the width of the trigger pulse. Performance The specification of the autotrigger functionality is as follows: Parameter Limits Comments Maximum trigger signal ±25 Vdc The midpoint of the trigger signal must be between +25 and - 25 volts to ensure correct operation. Minimum trigger amplitude 300 mvpp If the trigger signal is near 0 Vdc, then a signal variation of 300 mvpp is sufficient for correct operation. As the offset on the trigger increases, a larger signal may be required. Minimum trigger pulse width 60 us A square pulse of 60 us is sufficient for trigger operation. Minimum duty cycle at 3000 RPM <1% Minimum duty cycle at 30,000 RPM 3% If the pulse is not square, a longer pulse may be required. Minimum machine speed 6 RPM At speeds below 6 RPM, the trigger may not be sampled long enough to achieve correct operation. Page 3 of 10

4 Extension Manager The Extension Manager is a new screen used to install and uninstall application extensions and functionality upgrades, such as Balancing or Two Channel. Installation cards are no longer tied to a single Enpac through the unit ID as was the case in previous versions of the operating system. Instead the cards will initially work in any Enpac Once an application extension is installed on an Enpac 1200, the card is locked so that it can only be used to upgrade that instrument. Note that one installation card is required for each Enpac 1200 instrument that will be upgraded. You can uninstall extensions if required. When uninstalling an extension, you have the option to free up the license. This means that the installation card will be reset to a state where it can be used to install the extension on another Enpac This allows extensions to be transferred between instruments. Benefits You no longer need to provide unit IDs when ordering extensions. Extensions are no longer installed automatically when the card is inserted in the Enpac This allows you to use the card for data storage. Warning messages will no longer be displayed when you leave the card in the unit when power is cycled. Extensions can be transferred between Enpac 1200 instruments. Extensions are easier to manage. Launching the Extension Manager The Extension Manager is started by typing a special security number at the Main Menu. This allows you to control who can install and uninstall application extensions. After typing the security number, the Extension Manager screen appears. Figure 3 Extension Manager screen Page 4 of 10

5 Installing an Application Extension To install an application extension, insert the installation card into the slot at the bottom of the Enpac Then press the Install function key on the Extension Manager screen. When the installation is complete, the new application appears in the list on the Extension Manager screen. Figure 4 Installing a new extension Uninstalling an Application Extension To uninstall an application extension, follow these steps: 1. Highlight the application extension on the Extension Manager screen, and press the Select function key. A confirmation messages displays on the screen. Figure 5 Confirming the uninstall 2. Press Yes to uninstall the application extension. If the installation card is inserted in the Enpac, the extension is uninstalled and the license on the card is released so that the card can be used to install the extension on another Enpac If the installation card is not inserted in the Enpac (no card is found or the card does not have the application extension license for the unit), then you are prompted to insert the correct installation card or continue without freeing the license. 6 Figure 6 Prompt when installation card not found 3. If you wish to free the license, insert the correct installation card into the slot at the bottom of the Enpac, and press the Retry function key. Otherwise, press the Continue function key. Pressing the Continue function key uninstalls the extension from the instrument but the extension cannot be installed on any other Enpac Phase/Order Table Version 2.31 displays the spectrum and phase table (showing magnitude and phase at 1x through 8x running speed) in separate screens when collecting phase or order-normalized measurements. You can toggle between the two displays as required. See Displaying the Spectrum on page 7. Previous versions of the Enpac operating system displayed the spectrum and phase table simultaneously. Benefits The new phase screen allows for a clearer and neater display. It also provides space to display all the values correctly where as previous versions of the operating system would cause readouts to be truncated when there were long units (for example, mm/s). For cross-channel phase measurements, magnitude values for both input channels are now displayed in the phase table. Previous versions of the operating system did not display the reference channel magnitude values in the table. This data can be used an indicator of the coherence between the two channels. For example, if the reference channel amplitudes drop rapidly at higher orders while the signal channel amplitudes do not (or vice versa), then the coherence is probably lower at higher orders. 8 Enpac Options / Features The following options and features are also available in the Enpac. Off-Route Option You can order the Off-Route upgrade option (P/N 45064) for the Enpac 1200 models with firmware versions above release V2.0. Please contact your local Entek representative for details. 2-Channel Option The 2-Channel upgrade option (P/N 46254) is now available for the Enpac 1200 models. It includes a PC card, two connector cables, and a manual addendum. The new 2-channel features allow you to take the following measurements: orbits, shaft centerline, simultaneous 2-channel magnitude, time waveform, spectra, and cross-channel phase. All these features are enabled in on-route and off-route collection. Please contact you local Entek representative for details. 2-Plane Balancing Option The Balancing Application is an add-on enhancement program for the Enpac 1200 models. The Enpac 1200 Balancing Application provides a simple, direct method to balance your rotating machinery in one or two planes. The 2-Plane Balancing Application is capable of resolving Dynamic or Static Couple unbalance conditions. P/N Enpac Balancing Application Upgrade Kit w/ Hardware. 9 Loading the Enpac Operating System 1. Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the two screws on the battery access panel located at the rear of the data collector. 2. Remove the battery access panel. 3. Press the reset switch using a 1/16 th inch diameter pin or a straightened paper clip. 4. Press the <ON/OFF> key to power the data collector on. The data collector will power up in the Bootloader Configuration screen. 5. Connect the Enpac to the computer with an RS-232 serial cable. 6. Insert the Enpac CD-ROM disk into your CD-ROM drive of your computer. 7. On the taskbar, click the Start button, and then click Run. 8. There are two different applications available for loading the Enpac operating system. The traditional WinSerDL application provided with previous operating system versions, and the NEW Enpac Software Utility. Both Application menu options are very similar. To use the WinSerDL application please type x:\winserdl.exe (where x is the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive), and click OK. The WinSerDL dialog box appears. Alternatively, the Enpac Software Utility may be used for loading the operating system. On-screen menu s are very similar for both applications, and the Enpac Software utility can be run by typing x:\enpacutility.exe from the Start / Run menu mentioned above. The Enpac Software Utility can be used for Loading and Unloading files from the Enpac directly as well. 9. From the File menu, choose Open. 10. Select the appropriate operating system file from the CD-ROM. The file has an.out extension. For example, version 2.31 of the Enpac operating system has the file name v231rc2.out. Page 9 of 10

10 11. Choose Open. Make sure the name of the file you are loading appears in the title of the WinSerDL dialog box. Also check that the correct Com Port is selected. 12. Press <2> on the data collector s numeric key pad to start the transfer. 13. In the WinSerDL dialog box, choose Start Download. This must be done within 5 to 10 seconds of pressing <2> on the unit or the Enpac may timeout. The WinSerDL program clears the OS FLASH. A progress bar displays in the dialog box indicating the progress of the transfer. A message also displays at the bottom of the Enpac screen. Note that this transfer may take as long as 20 minutes. 14. When the message Transfer complete displays on the Enpac screen, close the WinSerDL dialog box and disconnect the Enpac to the computer. 15. Press < 1 > on the Enpac to Run Windows CE. Note that this will shutdown the instrument. 16. Press the <ON/OFF> key to power the data collector on. The data collector powers up under Windows CE and starts the specific operating system that was loaded. NOTE: It will be necessary to enter the date and time in the instrument. You may also wish to review other instrument settings, like memory, trigger, baud rate, and default units. After checking your settings, you should be ready to begin using Enpac. 17. To confirm the correct version was loaded, press the About soft-key on the main Enpac screen. This will display the Unit ID (which is unique the each Enpac) and the Firmware Version, which should match the operating-system file just loaded (example: 2.31 for the v231.out file). Press Esc to return to the main screen.
