LOGIN & CLASS PREPARATION At the end of this topic, you should be able to: 1 Know the hardware requirements for accessing GOALS system. 2 Know how to log into GOALS system. 3 Updating personal profile. 4 Know and view the courses taught in recent semesters. 5 Provide "Enrolment key" 1.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS & LOGIN Hardware requirements to access into GOALS system are as follows: HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Operating System (OS) Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / 7/ 8 Mac OS (Apple) Linux* (Ubuntu, OpenSuse, FedoraCORE, etc) Internet Browser Mozilla Firefox* Google Chrome* Safari* Internet Explorer (not recommended) Your Internet browser must be equipped with Flash Plugin*, Shockwave Plugin* and Java Plugin*. Internet Access Must have an internet connection to access the system goals USIM recommend the use of highspeed internet broadband/connection to access GOALS system. Low-speed Internet connection can also be used, but when the internet connection slowed down / no coverage, user will begin to experience problem when accessing GOALS 1

2 Word Processor Software & Presentation Microsoft Office 2003/2007/2010 PDF Viewer Software Adobe Acrobat Reader* Video Player Software GOM Player* VLC Player* Windows Media Player* Media Player Classic* (Requires at least one software only) * Software that marked (*) are available for free on the internet. 1.2 LOGIN TO G.O.A.L.S SYSTEM Open your Internet browser and enter the URL GOALS system will be shown as the screenshot below: Enter a Username (staff number) and Password (ewadi) and click Login. 2

3 Display as shown below will be displayed when the Username and Password are correct. If you key in the correct Username and Password but still cannot access the system, please to our helpdesk for further action. 1.3 UPDATE YOUR PROFILE To update or view your profile click on your name. Click My profile. 3

4 Under Administration choose My profile settings. Click on Edit profile to update your profile. 4

5 You are required to update your personal profile including photos and other information. 5

6 1.4 VIEWING YOUR COURSE To view your course click on the MyCourses. List of the courses will be displayed. Then, for example, click on the MKH1023 Kursus Pengenalan Komputer.

7 1.5 PROVIDE ENROLMENT KEY Before your student can view your courses, you must first provide an "Enrolment Key. This is to enable students to register their courses. Click on your courses, for example I click on the MKH1023 Kursus Pengenalan Komputer course. On your right, you can see the Administration, click on Users. Then, click on Enrolment methods. 7

8 8 Click on Self enrolment (Student). In Self enrolment (Students), enter the Enrolment key password for the course. Your students need to enter the "Enrolment key" to enroll in your course. Tick Unmask to reveal the hidden Enrolment key.

9 Click on "Save changes" when finished. Give/Spread the "Enrolment key" to your students. 9

10 You are required to provide "Enrolment key" for your course. At the end of this topic, you have learned: 1 An appropriate hardware requirement to access goals system. 2 The correct way to login to the goals system. 3 Updating personal profile. 4 Knowing what enrolment key is and enrolment key functions. 10

INSERT GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION At the end of this topic, you should be able to: 1 Inserting Topic Outline / Course Outline 2 Make forum / announcements for student s reference either using the "News Forum" or "Topics Block". 2.1 INSERTING TOPIC OUTLINE / COURSE OUTLINE Click on to turn editing on. Click on the icon to edit the general summary idea of this topic. 11

12 Display as shown below will be displayed. Enter the required information and click Save changes when finished. Here is the display after the information is stored. 12

13 You must include a summary of the course into the Topic Outline. To enter the Course Outline, click Add an activity or resource. Add an activity or resource window will be displayed. Click on File then click add button. *You are encouraged to upload the Course Outline to PDF/MS Word format. 13

14 Display as shown below will be displayed. Enter information in the box of Name" and "Description". 14

15 After that, click Add or drag files to select files. Click on Upload a file 15

16 Click on Choose File to upload file. Choose the file to be included and then click Open. 16

17 Click on Upload this file. When the file is uploaded, display as shown below will be displayed. Click on Save and return to course. Here is the display after the Course Outline is stored. 17

18 You are required to enter Course Outline into your course. Course Outline to be included must be in the form of "softcopy" such as Microsoft Word or PDF. 2.2 MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT To make an Announcement there are 2 ways to do that: - Using "News forum". - Make announcements in the "Topics Block" USING NEWS FORUM News forum only be used to make announcements and it is one-way communication (user cannot response to the announcement). To use it, click on News Forum. Click on Add a new topic. 18

19 Enter the title of the announcement in the "Subject" and the information to be announced in the "Message", and when finished click the "Post to forum". Here is the Announcement which has been included in the "New Forum". 19

20 Here is the Announcement which has been included on the main course. You are required to make an announcement using the "News Forum" MAKE ANNOUNCEMENTS IN TOPICS BLOCK To use the "Topics Block" as an Announcement, Click on the Add an activity or resource. Click on Page and click add button. 20

21 Enter the information in the field of Name, Description. and Content of the Announcement. This field must be filled in. 21

22 Enter the announcement in the field of Content. This field must be filled in. Then, click button of Save and return to course. The title that has been saved will appeared as shown below. 22

23 You are required to make the title "Announcement," and insert the announcement information using the Page function. At the end of this topic, you learned: 1. Insert Topic Outline / Course Outline the right way. 2. Make an Announcement using News Forum Topics Block. 3. Knowing that the news forum only be used to make static announcement. 23

24 3. PREPARE AND MANAGE THE LEARNING MATERIALS At the end of this topic, you should be able to: 1. Enter the title in each block. 2. Inserting the learning material (HTML version) using " Page" function. 3. Inserting softcopy" materials (Word, PDF, Excel, Video, Audio, etc.) into your course. 4. Inserting website link. 5. Using the folder and put material into the folder. 3.1 INCLUDES TITLE / TOPIC ON THE COURSE BLOCK Click on Add an activity or resource. 24

25 Enter a title / topic on the "Summary", and click "Save changes" when finished. Title / Topic that inserted shown as below. 25

26 3.2 COMPOSE A PAGE To use the Page", click on "Add a resource" and select Page". 26

28 Enter the same information in the "Name" and "Description". Key in the Learning Material information in Page content. When finished click on Save and return to course. The learning material has been included as the screenshot below. 28

29 You are required to make the learning material (HTML version) by using the Page". Exercise 1 : Enter the following information: Name & Description : Introduction to mydocs Page content : mydocs is an electronic Document Management System. It allows users to store, edit, and even share files to anyone. You are required to make the learning material (HTML version) by using the Compose a web page". Exercise 2 : Enter the following information: Name& Description : Hardware & System Requirements Page content: 29

30 Computer / Notebook OS Windows / Linux / Mac OS RAM 1GB Disk space - 500MB A stable internet connection 3.2 UPLOAD FILE You can also upload a softcopy file (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, MP4, MP3 etc.) into your course. Click on Add a resources and choose File. 30

32 Click Add or drag to select files. Click on Upload a file. 32

33 Click on Browse. Select a files to be inserted, and click Open. 33

34 Click Upload this file, and wait until the loading process finished. 34

35 In Display there are 5 options that you can choose. Choose 1 options that you feel suitable with your preference. Automatic : The best display option for the file type is selected automatically Embed : The file is displayed within the page below the navigation bar together with the file description and any blocks Force download : The user is prompted to download the file Open : Only the file is displayed in the browser window In pop-up : The file is displayed in a new browser window without menus or an address bar Click on Save and return to course when finished. The learning material has been included as shown as the screenshot below. You are required to upload a softcopy file (Word/PDF/PPT/MP3/dll) into your course. 35

36 3.4 LINK TO A URL/WEBSITE You can also enter a web page link in your course. Click on Add an activity an resource and choose URL. Enter the same information in the "Name & Description. In the External URL", enter the URL link. 36

37 In Display there are 4 options that you can choose. Choose 1 options that you feel suitable with your preference. Automatic : The best display option for the URL is selected automatically Embed : The URL is displayed within the page below the navigation bar together with the URL description and any blocks Open : Only the URL is displayed in the browser window In pop-up : The URL is displayed in a new browser window without menus or an address bar Click Save and return to course when finished. Link to the web site has been included as shown as the screenshot below. 37

38 You are required to enter a web link into your course. Exercise 1 Enter the following information: Name & Description : Website USIM External URL : Exercise 2 Enter the following information: Name & Description : USIM Online External URL : 38

39 3.5 CREATE A FOLDER You can create folders and upload file into it. Click Add an activity or resource and choose Folder. Enter the same information in the "Name & Description. Click Create folder and insert the folder name in Please enter folder name. Click OK when finish. 39

40 Click on the folder you have created just now. Click Add or drag to select files. Click on Upload a file 40

41 Click on Browse. Select files to be inserted, and click Open. 41

44 You are required to do: Create a folder. Enter the number of softcopy" files into the folder. Display the folder on the main display on your course. At the end of this topic, you learned: Enter the title of each block there. Using the Compose a text page" or " Compose a web page" to produce learning materials (HTML version). How to enter the softcopy" materials the right way. Inserting a useful web site links to your learning & teaching. Make a folder and display the folder in the correct way. 44

45 4. COMMUNICATION FACILITY FOR T&L At the end of this topic, you should be able to: 1. Know how to create Chat Room and Forum for discussion. 4.1 USING CHAT To insert Chat, click on Add an activity and select Chat. Enter the chat room name in Name of this chat room and introduction in Introduction text. 45

47 UPDATING LEARNING MATERIALS At the end of this topic, you should be able to: Make an edits / update learning materials included in GOALS system. After some sources of materials is added to an e-learning system, chances in the process of editing and updating need to be implemented from time to time if necessary. The process of editing and updating the materials in Moodle can be implemented using a number of icons available in every part of the right of each source material or elements. Icons that can be used are as follows: 1. Move Up, Down, Left & Right Move the item (in the topic blocks only). 2. Move Move item (inside and outside the block topic). 3. Update Update the materials. 4. Duplicate Duplicate others materials. 5. Delete Delete the material. 6. Hide / Unhide Hide the material from the student view. 47

48 7. Highlight this topic as the current topic Stressing that this is an important topic. 8. Show only topic It will show only 1 block at one time. You are required to test each icon that has been described in the materials included in your course.
