1 Adobe Photoshop CS2 Class 1 Tip: Shift/Control/Alt- will reset entire Photoshop program in case someone has changed settings. Create New File: 1. Click on File/New 2. Choose setting below Resolution: Higher resolution = Better quality & More memory Inkjet = Resolution with RGB Color for best settings 3. Ctrl > R = Rulers History Palette- Undo only allows you to go back one step. Use history panel to go back further. Make sure to click on the text to get back to previous state. Create New Layer: 1. Two options to insert a new layer (see below) a. Layer > New > Layer b. Click on Create a New Layer icon in the Layer Palette New Layer 1 Add a Layer Style Create a new layer
2 Add circle to new layer: 1. Use Elliptical Marquee Tool to draw circle (Shift=Perfect circle) Marquee Tool tips To move the selection area you created with the marquee tool, before letting go of the mouse, hold down the space bar and move the selection area with the mouse to the desired space. To change the size of the selection area- go to Select / Transform Selection 2. Choose foreground color (white) and background color (your choice) 3. Choose Gradient Tool (Paint Bucket Tool) 4. Select Radial Gradient Tool (red circle below), moving from left to right or right to left (depending on where you want the shadow) to make circle three dimensional (see below) 5. Select > Deselect to clear Marching Ants Note: To select objects on a layer (i.e. to get back into gradient), in layer palette, put cursor on thumbnail and hold down Ctrl and click. 2
3 Add a drop Shadow to Ball: 1. Select layer with ball. 2. Click on Add a Layer Style icon and choose Drop Shadow or click on top menu Layer>Layer Style>Drop Shadow 3. The following screen will appear. 4. Set Structure settings (see above) to tweak shadow and click OK. a. Use Distance to specify the offset distance for a shadow or satin effect. b. Use Spread to expand the boundaries of the matte prior to blurring. c. Use Size to specify the amount of blur (soften) or the size of the shadow. Separate Ball and Shadow: 1. In the top menu select Layer/Layer Style/Create Layer/OK a. This will create a new layer with just the drop shadow 2. Select Layer 1 s Drop Shadow in the Layers Palette 3. Select Edit > Free Transform (or Ctrl > T) 4. Move box handles to transform (Distort the shadow) 5. Double click inside box or hit enter to accept transformation 3
4 Create a Background Behind Object 1. Select Layer 1 in the Layers Palette and click in the box directly to the left of the thumbnail of the Layer 1 s Drop Shadow to link the two layers together (see below). 2. Move ball and shadow to bottom of page using the Move Tool 3. Select two shades of green for foreground (dark) and background (light) of grass. 4. Create new Layer. 5.
