UPGRADING 4D v12 Single User System This document outlines the steps involved for upgrading your 4D third party software to the latest version, 4D v12.

4 UPGRADING 4D v12 Single User System This document outlines the steps involved for upgrading your 4D third party software to the latest version, 4D v12. Please read these installation instructions carefully before proceeding. 4D v12 UPGRADE GUIDE FOR NETWORKED MEDICUS SYSTEMS Download the upgrade files Please download the required files from the Mela Solutions website; updates.html. Contact the office on for login details and your 4D v12 licenses. 1. Download the files required for server upgrade, these are: a. 4D Software > 4D Server v12 b. Mela Software > MedICUs Server v12 2. Ensure you have received an containing the relevant 4D v12 license files. Removing previous service and previous installation folder Here are the first steps before making any changes: a) Open Windows Services list b) Locate the service 4D Server: MedICUs and view Properties c) On the general tab make a note of the path to executable, these will be needed at point g). Here are the default paths: o C:\Program Files\4D\4D Server\4D Server.exe o C:\MedICUs\MedICUs.4DC d) Stop the service using the Stop button. Mela Solutions Ltd 4

5 e) Un register MedICUs as a service by taking the following steps; o Navigate to the installation path C:\MedICUs. o Start the application by dragging and dropping the file MedICUs.4DC onto the 4D Server shortcut file. o Please note: If using Windows Server 2008 or higher you need to right click the shortcut file and select Run as Administrator then take these steps: Select File > Open Navigate to the installation folder C:\MedICUs Select MedICUs.4DC Click Open o A 4D Server window will appear; select File > Unregister Current Database. o Select File > Quit. o Select Disconnect all clients and quit o Click Ok f) A refresh of the services window should remove 4D Server: MedICUs from the list. g) IMPORTANT: Rename the old folders. o Navigate to the two folder locations noted down earlier, renaming the folders as shown below (Please note: these may vary slightly depending on how your server is setup). Folder Name C:\Program Files\4D\4D Server C:\MedICUs\ Renamed folder C:\Program Files\4D\OLD4D ServerOLD C:\OLDMedICUsOLD\ h) At this point the next step is to install new server versions of 4D (v12) and MedICUs (compiled in 4D v12). Server Side Installation Mela software: MedICUs a) Run the downloaded file MedICUs Server v12.exe b) Click Next c) The installation path is set to C:\MedICUs\ o If you have a separate data drive please specify this here. d) Click Next e) Accept the terms of our end user license agreement. f) Click Next g) Click Install h) Click Finish i) Copy the live data files from the old installation folder C:\OLDMedICUsOLD to the new installation path. Data files are named as: o MedICUs.4DD o MedICUs.4DR Mela Solutions Ltd 5

6 Server Side Installation 4D Server v12.x Installer a) Run the downloaded MSI installer, 4DServerv12.xSetup.msi b) Click Next c) The installation path is set to C:\Program Files\4D\4D Server v12.x\ d) Click Next e) Click Install f) Click Finish g) Open the 4D Server v12.x folder h) Right click on the file 4D Server.exe and select Create shortcut i) Move this shortcut file to the C:\MedICUs installation folder. IMPORTANT: If multiple instances of Mela server software are running take the following steps: a) Run the downloaded MSI installer, 4DServerv12.xSetup.msi b) Click Next c) The installation path is set to C:\Program Files\4D\4D Server v12.x\ d) Click Next e) Click Install f) Click Finish g) Navigate to the 4D Server v12.x folder h) Make a copy of the entire folder and name both copies according to the Mela software running e.g. 4D Server v12.3 MedICUs & 4D Serverv12.3 Outreach. i) Within each folder rename the files 4D Server.EXE & 4D Server.RSR to 4D Server*Program Name*.EXE and 4D Server*Program Name*.RSR e.g. 4D ServerMedICUs.EXE & 4D ServerMedICUs.RSR & 4D ServerOutreach.EXE & 4D ServerOutreach.RSR. j) Within each of these folders right click on the file 4D Server*Program Name*.EXE and select Create shortcut k) Move this shortcut file to the corresponding C:\MedICUs or C:\MedICUsOutreach installation folder. $application take these steps: a) Open the installation folder C:\MedICUs b) Drag and drop the file$ MedICUs.4DC onto the 4D Server.exe shortcut file c) 4D Server may open with the following message.

This is located in the installation folder. e) Select the file and Open.

7 Apply 4D v12 license files and setup the new MedICUs installation as a service To open MedICUs as an application take these steps: a) Open the installation folder C:\MedICUs b) Drag and drop the file MedICUs.4DC onto the 4D Server.exe shortcut file c) 4D Server may open with the following message. Select Open. d) An open file window will appear looking for the file MedICUs.4DD. This is located in the installation folder. e) Select the file and Open. f) The Welcome to 4D window will now appear. g) Select I would like to activate 4D then click Next h) Select I agree then click Next Mela Solutions Ltd 7

i) Select Deferred activation then click Next

k) Select Load and navigate to the location of

8 i) Select Deferred activation then click Next j) Select I have received my activation key. I would like to select this file in order to activate 4D and click Next. k) Select Load and navigate to the location of the 4D license file l) Once highlighted click open Mela Solutions Ltd 8

$n) If additional 4D licenses are available, these need copying to the 4D Licenses folder, as found in the following locations: Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\All users\appdata\4d\licenses$

9 m) MedICUs Server v12 will now open. n) If additional 4D licenses are available, these need copying to the 4D Licenses folder, as found in the following locations: Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\All users\appdata\4d\licenses Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\4D\Licenses After copy, if 4D Server is running, for those licenses to be automatically registered choose to re start the service. 10 Setup MedICUs v12 to run as a service a) Set MedICUs to run as a service by selecting Register Current Database as Service from the File menu. (Please note: On Windows 2008 servers 4D Server.exe requires running as Administrator before these options are available). b) Close MedICUs as an application. Select File > Quit. c) Go to Windows Services list. At the top of this list 4D Server: MedICUs should be available. Right click on this line and select Properties. Mela Solutions Ltd 10

11 d) Take the steps below: Set the start-up type to Automatic so that 4D Server will restart automatically if the server is rebooted. Click Start to start the service Click on the log-on tab at the top and then click the allow service to interact with desktop to view the Administration window when logged on to the console session. Set the Port & Listener address a) If there is more than one instance of 4D Server running then it is necessary to set them to broadcast over different ports.

(4D v11 onwards uses 19814 as a separate default in the background).

To change this, navigate to the SQL icon on the same Database settings window.
