12 Symphony EnvironmentalVue v3.1 User s Guide Getting Started Windows The Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface is capable of displaying one or more windows. These windows display different kinds of information; 2-dimensional maps, 3-dimensional maps, and flight data tables are just some of the windows that you might see in Symphony EnvironmentalVue. Window Controls In Microsoft Windows, each window contains controls in the upper right corner of the window (Figure 3). Figure 3: Window Controls The various window control icons that you might see are described in Table 1. Table 1: Window Control Icons Icon Description Floats the window. A floating window is a window that can be moved and resized. Floating windows enable you to change the position and size of the window freely. Docks the window. When windows are initially displayed on the Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface, they are docked. A docked window is a window that cannot be freely moved around the Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface or resized. If you attempt to move a docked window, Symphony EnvironmentalVue will move the window back to a fixed position. Minimizes the window to a tab control. You may want to hide windows that you don't frequently use, but still want the ability to access quickly. Toggles the window's auto-hide. Temporarily removes the window from view. On a Mac, the window controls are located in the upper left corner of the window: Red: Closes the window 4

13 Yellow: Minimizes the window Green: Maximizes the window Figure 4: Mac Window Controls To float a window on a Mac, right-click on the title bar and select Floating (Figure 5). Figure 5: Floating a Window on a Mac 5

In the # STDs field, enter the number of standard deviations to show whether the flights are actually following the average path, or if there is a large deviation in their trajectories. The standard deviations is calculated for every point along the track and the width is shown perpendicular to the direction of the track at the given point. The setting is for the half width of the track, or the width to one side. For example, setting the # STDs to 1 would generate a width of 1 standard deviation to each side of the average track, giving you a total width of 1 standard deviations from side to side. 11. To change the color of the average track's line, click the track color icon and select the color. 12. Click Create. The average track displays on both the 2D and 3D map. A line with the selected color for the average track also displays in the Profile View Chart. A row is also added to the Average Track table. 13. If you would like to regenerate the average track after filtering out flights or downloading a different set of data, right-click the average track in the Average Track Table and select Evaluate Average Track. If an average track is loaded from the workspace, it will only contain the settings that were used to create it. In order to display the average track on the map, it must be evaluated on the currently downloaded flight tracks in the system. To do this, right-click the track in the Average Track Table and select Evaluate Average Track. 110

119 Creating a Density Grid EnvironmentalVue enables you to generate track density plots.
