1 XDCAM Drive Software Update XDCAM Drive Software V2.1 for Mac has been released If you have not already upgraded to V2.1 for Windows, please do so. After XDCAM Drive Software V2.1 for Mac (also known as VFAM for Mac) has been installed, Mac OS X will present the standard Clip, Edit, Sub, and General folders when an XDCAM disc is read using the PDW-U1 (similar to the XDCAM decks and camcorders). High resolution MXF files may be written to the \Clip folder of XDCAM discs using a PDW-U1 connected to a Mac. This software provides functionality similar to that of the XDCAM Drive Software V2.1 for Windows. NOTE: The XDCAM Drive Software V2.1 for Mac is supported only for Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X Leopard or higher. This software cannot be installed on Macs which are PowerPC-based or running Mac OS X Tiger On such platforms, access to discs mounted from a PDW-U1 is limited to readonly.

2 Section 1: Installing the XDCAM Drive Software Mac OS X When you install new XDCAM Drive Software and utility software, the existing version is overwritten. If the utility software V1.0 has been installed in any location other than the default location, you must manually delete it before upgrading. Double click the XDCAM Drive Software.dmg in the "Macintosh" folder and then double click the "XDCAM Drive Software.pkg" icon to initiate the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the XDCAM Drive Software and the utility software. Once the installation of the XDCAM Drive Software is completed, launch the utility software to check the version number of the PDW-U1 firmware and update it if necessary. If multiple PDW-U1 drives are connected and the mounted discs are untitled, then the contents of the first disc inserted may be shown as the contents of other discs in Finder. To avoid this, please name the discs. Windows Old versions of the XDCAM Drive Software must be uninstalled first before installing the new version of software. Remove the Sony XDCAM Drive Software by using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel and then restart your computer before installing the new version. Run Setup.exe in the "XDCAM Drive Software" folder, and follow the on-screen instructions to install both the XDCAM Drive Software and the utility software. Launch the utility software to check the version number of the PDW-U1 firmware and update it if necessary. Before reinstalling the XDCAM Drive Software, always uninstall the software (do not attempt to repair it) and restart your computer. The XDCAM Drive Software may not function properly if the PDW-U1 is not assigned a drive letter in the range A-Z.

3 Section 2: General Notes About PDW-U1 Drive Version 2.1 Functionality NOTES: 1. The XDCAM Drive Software must be upgraded to V2.1 in order to write files to XDCAM discs formatted by the PDW-700 and PDW-HD1500 (or later models) with the PDW-U1. 2. This unit cannot read the following discs: o Blu-ray Disc o Professional Disc for Data 3. It is not possible to power this unit through a USB cable. 4. The XDCAM Drive Software may not function correctly if installed with some antivirus packages, some anti-spyware tools, and some products that contain non-standard OS UDF 2.5 file system drivers. 5. Please be aware that if you use any of the XDCAM devices listed below with older firmware versions, intermittently the filename of clips will seem to disappear if you insert a disc which was created with a PDW-U1 Ver2.0 (or later) drive and then rename the file using the operating system (ie Windows File Explorer or Mac OS Finder). If you re-insert the disc, the name will reappear. Note: this issue does not affect your file system; this is a user interface issue which is solved by updating the firmware to the minimum version shown below for each device: o PDW-F70/F30/70MD, F330/F350: Ver1.93 or later o PDW-1500, V1.510/530/539, D1, R1: Ver1.60 or later o PDBZ-E1500: Ver2.10 or later 6. Depending on the status (i.e. memory or CPU usage) of your computer, direct playback by XDCAM Viewer (Windows) or XDCAM Transfer (Mac) of clips on discs using the PDW- U1 may not be smooth.

4 Section 3: Using the U1 Utility Software to Upgrade the PDW-U1 Drive Firmware NOTE: 1. Eject the disc before updating the firmware. 2. Do not turn off the PDW-U1 or the computer, or disconnect the USB cable during the firmware update. 3. When the firmware update is finished, the PDW-U1 must be turned off and on again. 4. The firmware version cannot be downgraded. 5. Generally, the ownership information is determined by the value of Body UMID in the original MXF file. However, if there is no Body UMID value in an MXF file created by a non-xdcam device, then the ownership information of a clip written to the PDW-U1 will be determined by the settings in the utility software. 6. Although the U1 Utility software can recover a disc is most cases when a file writing operation is abruptly interrupted, Sony cannot guaranteed that the recovery function can repair discs in all situations. Mac OS Specific Notes 1. You must be logged on as an Administrator to change the utility software settings. 2. The software cannot repair discs broken by XDCAM devices other than PDW-U1. 3. Neither the utility software for Windows nor XDCAM devices can repair discs broken by the Mac software.

5 Windows OS Specific Notes 1. When you are using Windows XP, you must log on to the computer as a user with Administrator privileges to run the utility software. 2. When you log into Windows Vista as an Administrator and start this software with User Account Control enabled, a dialog appears asking for permission to continue. Click the Continue button to continue. 3. When you are using Windows Vista, privileges differ as follows depending on whether User Account Control is enabled or disabled. When User Account Control is enabled: The utility software requires Administrator privileges and Windows Vista opens a dialog asking you to confirm the elevation of privileges from a limited user account to an Administrator account. If you approve the elevation of privileges, the utility software will run with Administrator privileges. In this case, you can use all the functions of the utility software. If you attempt to start the utility software without approving the elevation of privileges, a dialog appears to inform you that the software will run under a limited user account. It also informs you which restrictions will be imposed. If you start the utility software in limited mode, you cannot change the settings in the User Settings screen or use the log deletion function. When User Account Control is disabled: Windows Vista will not open a dialog confirming the elevation of privileges and the utility software will run with Administrator privileges. In this case, you can use all the functions of the utility software. 4. The software cannot repair discs broken by XDCAM devices other than PDW-U1. 5. Discs broken by the PDW-U1 cannot be repaired by XDCAM devices other than PDW-U
