1 INSERVICE DAY - 11/11/11 TECHNOLOGY Converting PowerPoints into Movies (examples using imovie& Windows MovieMaker) (More detailed tutorials with pictures can be found at PowerPoint (open slideshow) 1. FILE > SAVE AS MOVIE (depends of which version of PowerPoint is used). 2. Movie Setting Screen appears. 3. Background soundtrack Select SOUNDTRACK > OK 4. Look for movie in Documents 5. Click on Movie will open. Keynote to Movie (open slideshow) 1. GO > APPLICATION 2. iwork Keynote (Apple s PowerPoint) 4. Open PowerPoint in Keynote 5. FILE > EXPORT 6. QUICKTIME > Playback :Fixed timing, Slide duration: 5.0 sec, Build duration: 2.0 sec, Repeat: None (default) > NEXT Keynote to PDF (to convert to filecharts) - may import into ActivInspire 1. Follow steps 1 5 above for Keynote to Movie 2. PDF > NEXT A MOVIE-MAKING SOFTWARE MUST BE USE TO CONVERT THE JPEG FILES INTO A MOVIE. THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR imovie (Mac) and MOVIEMAKER (Windows). THEY ARE NOT TUTORIALS ON HOW TO USE THE SOFTWARE--JUST ENOUGH INSTRUCTIONS TO CONVERT THE JPEGS TO A MOVIE. imovie(mac software on MacBooks and computers in mini-mac lab) 1. Open imovie and slide folder. Drag each slide into the project screen (top). 2. Slide transitions, audio (narration of the movie or music may be added). 3. To make into a movie, click SHARE > EXPORT MOVIE. 4. Name video in "Export As:", select location in "Where", select size to Export (medium or large is recommended), then Click EXPORT when ready. 5. Preparing project with estimated time remaining will appear while creating the movie. 6. Go to the location that movie is saved. imovies have a m4v file extension. Double click on it to play. MovieMaker(Windows software - MovieMaker Live or Photo Storycan also be used) 1. Open software. Click FILE > IMPORT INTO COLLECTIONS. 2. Open the Folder with JPEG files (double click on folder), click on first slide, SHIFT-click on last file (all files are highlighted blue), click IMPORT. 3. The software will load the slides. 4. Drag the slides down into the timeline (bottom) in slide order. 5. Transitions, effects, and music can be added (optional) - narration can be recorded for audio. 6. Save movie by clicking FILE > SAVE >MOVIE FILE. 7. The Save Movie Wizard will begin prompting for Movie Location (default will be MY COMPUTER). If this is the desired location (if not, select from other options), click NEXT.
2 8. Select where to store Movie (also given an option to Make New Folder). Once location is selected, click OK. 9. Movie Setting options (default is Best quality for playback on my computer) - for other options, click "Show more choices". When done, click NEXT. 10. The saving movie process will begin. 11. The Completing the Save Movie Wizard will appear providing an option to Play movie when I click finish (check to play movie, uncheck not to play movie). Click FINISH. Student Responses Surveys (using Zoomerang) 1. Go to and create a new account. 2. Click CREATE A SURVEY. 3. Name your survey and click GET STARTED. 4. Click ADD A QUESTION 5. From the top pull-down menu, question choices consist of multiple choice, open ended, heading, rating scale, date and time, ranking, name and address. Choose Name and Address if you want to know who the survey is from. The check boxes on the right can be checked for required information (EX: name and address). 6. Click in the box to the right of the number and type in the question. Tab to provide answer choices. Then click SAVE. 7. Click ADD A QUESTION to add more questions. 8. To see what the survey looks like, click PREVIEW. 8. A copy of the survey will appear. Responses during PREVIEW are not recorded. Verify all information changes cannot be made with the free edition. Exit out of PREVIEW mode by clicking the X in the top right corner. 10. To change the theme, color, or fonts, click THEMES COLOR FONTS. 11. Select from different Visual Themes by clicking first on the tab, then on the sample. 12. You survey will appear in that theme. 13. When survey is complete, click ACTIVATE SURVEY (2 places) 14. Click on the link (will be highlighted in blue) and either right click on it and select COPY.** 15. Click on CMS on the district's webpage. Log on and go to your online classroom. Type in directions with the assignment. Highlight the words (CLICKING HERE) and click on INSERT LINK ICON. 16. Right click in the URL box and select PASTE. The survey web address will appear. Click OK. 17. The words you highlighted in now the link to your survey. Click SAVE PAGE. 18. Click VIEW LIVE SITE and navigate to the assignment page. 19. Click on the link (CLICK HERE) to verify that the link works. It will take you to the survey. 20. Results from the survey can be obtained by logging onto Zoomerang, click on the survey name, and select the Analyze Results tab. 21. By "Editing a Review", a report will tell how many visits were made. Also, the survey can be deleted from this tab. 22. To close the survey, delete the survey from Zoomerang or delete the link on your webpage. **The Source code can also be copied (click Copy the code tab, change width to 600 and length to 1000, and embedded on the webpage (using source icon) remember to save the page. The survey will appear on the page instead of linked. Blogs 1. Log onto CMS from bottom right corner of district website. 2. From your homepage, select a classroom to conduct the blog. If you do not have a classroom, ADD NEW CLASSROOM (EX: MATH 4) and click SAVE CLASSROOM.
3 3. Your class will show under "CLASSROOMS". Click on this class. 4. When the class page appears, click on MANAGE BLOG. 5. Click on ADD BLOG POST. 6. Add POST TITLE (EX: Parallelogram), add post itself inside of text box, Posting Date (default today), Posting Time (default current time), Optional image, and CHECK BOX in front of "Allow For Comments to be posted (will still require approval)". Then click SAVE BLOG POST. 7. Another blog can be posted by clicking "Add Blog Post" or edit the current blog by clicking "Edit". 8. When using a Blog with a video, link Blog page to classroom page. Go to the Class Page that the blog is on - Click VIEW BLOG. Copy the URL for a link on the page with the video. 9. Insert text for directions below video (add CLICK HERE to answer blog), Highlight "click here", click the INSERT/EDIT LINK ICON (earth with chain links), right click in URL box, select PASTE, click OK > SAVE PAGE. 10. Click VIEW LIVE SITE (top of page) to verify link works. Doing this avoids students not finding the blog that goes with the video assignment. Student Instructions - Responding to a Blog 1. To direct students to respond to a blog, direct them to the district homepage ( from the school menu select the school (EX: FAIRLESS), from the left menu, select "Teacher Website", and click on the teacher's name (alphabetical order). From the teacher home page, under "My Classrooms", click on the desired class (EX: MATH 4). When the class page appears, click on the "View Blog". NOTE: This step may be eliminated if you insert a link directly to the blog from the assignment page (see step 8 in "How to Create a Blog" section. 2. When the blog appears, click POST A COMMENT. 3. Complete name, address, write answer inside of box, and click "SAVE COMMENT". 4. A quick message will flash about the post will first need approved, then the class page will reappear. Teachers Approving Blogs 1. Go to the class page (EX: MATH 4) after logging into CMS. Click MANAGE BLOG. 2. Click on APPROVE SUBMITTED COMMENTS. 3. Unapproved Comments (default) will appear. Click boxes in front of approved posts. Leave unapproved posts box empty. Approved posts will disappear (to view, click "Approved Comments"). Do not approve posts until you want them displayed. 4. To view all bogs posts, click VIEW BLOG from class page. 5. Click VIEW COMMENTS. 6. Student posts will appear. Only teacher approved posts are displayed. To collapse the comments, click COLLAPE COMMENTS. Drop Boxes 1. ADD ASSIGNMENT on class page. 2. Complete assignment information (name, dates assigned and due, description), check box Allow Student to submit assignment online) > SAVE ASSIGNMENT 3. From Class Assignment, click View all Assignments 4. For selected assignment, click VIEW SUBMITTED ASSIGNMENTS 5. Click on file to open (open, save, or save as to view or save) 6. View student work 7. STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS: From Class page, under Class Assignment, click SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT 8. Complete name assignment should be saved as a Word Document (BROWSE to find) > UPLOAD ASSIGNMENT
4 New Equipment IPEVO Document Camera 1. Connect to USB port launch software (P2V) green light on when connected to computer, red light on when video input is recognized by the computer 2. Attach to stand, clip, or hold (up to 2 inches) 3. Modes a. Camera Mode i. Zooms up to 3x ii. Takes photos timer for 3 or 10 seconds (saved under My Pictures > P2V) iii. Mirror (horizontal or vertical) iv. Exposure (less (-2) or more (+2) light) v. Resolution b. Review Mode i. Zoom, Rotate, Delete (selected photo by clicking on it) or copy (right click) - latest photo is viewed c. Full Screen (Escape to leave returns to camera mode) 4. Top buttons (front to back) a. Snapshot key (recommend using software to take picture so camera isn t shaking) b. Focus Key c. Autofocus (S for single or C for continuous recommend C) KodakSport Video Camera 1. Charge the camera for two hours, using one of three methods. Connect the USB adapter to the camera and attach it to the outlet adapter, plug the USB connection directly into a computer or take the battery out and use the external charger. 2. Power on the camera by pressing the small power button on the right side of the camera. The LCD screen will power on, and a live view will appear within a few seconds. 3. Use the camera's controls to record video or play back videos. The large middle button on the back is used to record or stop recording. The "Play" button accesses already recorded videos, and small thumbnails appear. Press the arrow buttons to scroll through different videos. 4. Plug the USB cable into a computer to upload and edit video footage. You may use thearcsoft Media Impression (will install when camera is plugged into laptop) or files can be extracted to use in iphoto, imove, or Windows MediaPlayer. 5. 5 Mobi View (software must be installed on laptops, software is on desktop image) 1. Parts FRONT - Touch Screen (annotation), Writing area (pen), Pen - mouse (click for left click, top rocker button for right click) TOP - USB port, Power Button BACK: Pen Charger, RF Hub holder, Battery compartment 2. Charging METHOD #1 (12 hrs) o Place pen slot, mini USB cable to port at top and computer USB (can be used while charging o When charging is completed, remove the USB cable and press the Mobi Power button. METHOD #2 (8 hrs - recommended) o Remove RF hub from back and store in RF hub holder on charging stand. o Place MobiView on charging stand, plug the USB cable into power adapter & plug in outlet. 3. Start-up RF hub in USB in computer, Power on Mobi 4. Home Screen (sleeps 1-5 minutes and shuts down after 20 minutes inactivity-touch pen to surface to wake) TOP: USB connected, reports ready, presenter, pen indicator (if near or charging), battery life MIDDLE: Notes (create, post, and saves notes), ANNOTATE BOTTOM: Favorites (saves up to 16 files or sites), keyboard, reports, settings 5. Annotate BOTTOM: <- (return to home screen), custom tools, annotate tools, start/stop multi-user Starts in Lesson Mode when tool is selected PEN (square with pen) - begin writing on tablet on current screen or blank page (blank paper) 6. Favorites (up to 16 files or links) Bookmarking favorites: ADD FAVORITE > Select function to change > Select folder or link > Enter bookmark name and location 7. Keyboard Outside Workshop in MOUSE MODE o Use pen as mouse o Fill in field by pressing pen tip to desired characters o Press ENTER o Press DONE In Workspace in LESSON OR ANNOTATE MODE o Use pen to enter character on keyboard (text appear in window) o Click pen once to active writing area to post (drag and resize if needed) o EXIT to close 8. Settings Autostart (keep in Workspace) Sleep Timer (1-5 minutes) Calibrate Touch Screen (when writing is off) Pair with hub (will be done for you) Brightness, Return Home, Select Language, Device Name 9. Check for Updates From Toolbar, WORKSPACE MENU (Down Arrow in Circle), HELP > Check for Updates 10. MOUSE MODE - runs applications and access Internet using Mouse Tool (looks like a mouse) 11. LESSON MODE (default) Workspace takes a screenshot of desktop and allows to annotate over image. 12. Single Toolbar

8 INTERMEDIATE TOOLBAR TOOLS LEFT COLUMN TOOLS 1. Minimize - shrink and expand toolbar 2. Mouse - toggles between Workspace and active desktop 3. Selection tool moves, resizes, deleted, rotates selected item 4. Highlighter writes as a highlighter using selected color (defaults back to last color used) 5. Shapes inserts selected shapes, click and drag to size, selects border as well as inside color 6. Textbox adds text to document (much the same as Word or PowerPoint) 7. Clear clears entire page 8. Create grid page creates a grid page to write on 9. Previous page goes to previous page 10. Page sorter changes order of pages 11. Toolbox shows various tools 12. Exit - Close RIGHT COLUMN TOOLS 13. Preferences Worksheet menu preferences 14. Lesson Mode acts as computer input device and annotates on computer screen 15. Pen annotates using a pen (thickness available) 16. Eraser erases pen or highlighter 17. Lines dotted, dashed, solid lines, arrows, etc. 18. Undo deletes the last action 19. Create blank page creates blank white board to write on 20. Gallery inserts images from categories 21. Next pages goes to next page 22. Save saves the document 23. Student Response System voters (will only work with their voters)
