1 Page Get to Know TruE Studio, an Application of the TruEmbroidery Software Program By Janie Lantz TruE Studio gives you tools to create quick designs or combine existing embroideries. Save as unmerged designs so you can easily make future changes, and then Export as a finalized embroidery in the correct format for your personal embroidery machine. Reset for a Uniform Program Window 1. Ensure all TruEmbroidery applications are closed. If they are not closed, right click over the icon, and choose Quit from the pop-up menu. Tip: If you look in the Dock, any open applications should have a small white bar or light beneath them, indicating they are open. If you don t see lights under any icons in the Dock, you may need to open Launchpad, and then open System Preferences. Select Dock and check to make sure the Show indicator lights for open applications option is checked. Close by clicking the red circle in the upper left corner of System Preferences. 2. Open TruE Configure from the Dock if you have a shortcut, or by opening Launchpad, and then browsing to the page with the TruE Embroidery icons.
2 Page 3. Select the Utilities menu. 4. Click Reset all Apps. 5. Select Quit Open TruE Apps. 6. You may see a message that No apps appear to be open. 7. Select Reset All Apps. 8. Close TruE Configure. Part 1: Overview of the TruE Studio Window 1. Click the TruE Studio icon in the Dock if you have a shortcut, or by opening Launchpad TruEmbroidery icons., and then browsing to the page with the 2. Click Help in the Menu bar at the top, and then select TruE Studio Help. 3. The Help Center opens to a title page. 4. Click the drop-down on the Actions menu icon to see choices in how you display the Help Center. 5. Click the Actions menu icon again to hide the menu. 6. Under Contents, click the arrow beside Welcome to TruE Studio. Two additional topics will appear. 7. Click on About TruE Studio. The topic s info will appear in the preview column at the right. 8. Open the Tools and Techniques topic in Contents. 9. Select The TruE Studio Window link to see an overview of the parts of TruE Studio.
3 Page 10. Click the Actions menu again, and you can Print the selected page. Tip: Click Show Details to change settings for your printer. Most pages print best in Landscape. 11. From the Help menu you can also access the Learning Center, and FAQ (if you are connected to the Internet) and lists of Keyboard Shortcuts. 12. Close Help. Menu Bar 13. Across the top of the window is the Menu Bar. The first icon is the Apple icon. Click the icon for a drop-down menu. Here, you will find commands for your Mac operating system. 14. Click TruE Studio in the Menu Bar. 15. In the drop-down menu, select Preferences. Here, you can enter the size for the Grid in mm or inches (ex., 1 ). Set the Size at 10mm. You may type either or mm. TruEmbroidery will automatically convert to your preferred setting selected in TruE Configure. 16. You may also check on or off the Remove Overlap functionality. Remove Overlap will crop underlying layers of stitches if overlapping designs are combined. This function is OFF by default. Leave it unchecked. 17. Click Close to close Preferences. Tip: Most of the system settings are in TruE Configure! 18. Click each of the other words in the Menu Bar to see their options.
4 Page Some commands in each drop down menu may be grayed out, and are not available unless you are working with design elements or have an element selected. They may change functionality as you select or deselect designs, in some instances, as well. 19. Notice the Assistants menu also has an icon at the left side of the Toolbar below the Menu Bar. Toolbar Icons 20. Icons in the Toolbar have been kept to a minimum for an uncluttered view. If icons have an attached arrow-tab, you can click the tab and open a drop-down menu. 21. Two icons appear at the left end, next to the TruE Studio icon. 22. The left icon, Assistants, contains the QuickCreate and Portrait assistant links. Hover over either Assistant to see you can create to Fit the Hoop, or to Fit a Rectangle which you click and drag in the hoop area. 23. Next to Assistants is the Actions icon, which contains frequently used commands. 24. The current design name is at the top center of the Toolbar. Once you have selected File / Save, the name Untitled will change to the new name you gave your design. 25. Under the design name, slightly at left of center, is the Zoom toolbar. Icons there are Zoom Out, Zoom In, Zoom to Rectangle, and Zoom to Fit. 26. Zoom percentage (number will vary by design and hoop) is shown just to the right of the Zoom toolbar.
5 Page For more information on how these commands work, click Help in the Menu Bar. 27. The Zoom Slider is a great tool for adjusting your view of the work area. Click and drag the slider left to zoom out, or right to zoom in. Click Zoom to Fit the hoop. to bring back the full view of 28. Click by the small line in the Zoom Slider to view 100%. 29. On the right side of the Toolbar are icons that are more frequently used. They include Resize (adjust density as you size larger or smaller), Hoop (select by machine brand and hoop), Background (load and move a background for the work area), View Mode (toggle between 3D Realistic, 3D, and two dimensional view), Player (review how designs will stitch after finalizing and exporting) and Panels. 30. The Panels bar contains two icons you will use quite frequently. Both represent floating panels that can be moved and sized to give better access to the design window, or which can be closed completely. 31. Click Design Viewer to open the File Viewer window. The File Viewer allows you to browse to stored designs, and to preview them in three dimensional view. Once a folder is opened, you can scroll through all the designs in a folder using Gestures, or you can adjust the Scroll Bar View in System Preferences >General.
6 Page 32. In Panels, click the Control Panel icon. Here, you can select additional functions such as Lettering or Frames. Part 2: Create a Geometric Design with SuperDesign Elements Let s create something unique using some of the functions in TruE Studio, including the SuperDesign Elements! 1. Click Hoop. 2. Set Brand at Universal, Machine Group at Universal, and Hoop Size at 260mm x 200mm Universal Large Hoop 3. In Orientation select Vertical. 3. Click OK to close and change the hoop view. 4. Click the SuperDesign page. The first Collection, Animals 1, is pictured. The Animals 1 set is visible. If you initially see a different collection, remember that Reset all Applications will take you back to the default settings. Otherwise, if you have created designs and closed the TruEmbroidery software, the last used menus will automatically reload the next time you access a menu. 5. Click the drop down menu by Animals in Collection. The 21 Collections are in view. Each collection contains one or more different sets of nine elements. SuperDesign elements are special designs that may be created, sized, and properties adjusted, all while maintaining stitch density. 6. Select the Borders Category to view Borders Click the drop down by Borders 1 to see a total of four Border sets.
7 Page 8. Select Borders Select Element Default Size for Borders 4 is 20mm high. In the Size box you can also adjust Height or Width independently by percentage. 11. Leave Size at 20mm, and 100% of standard Height and Width at that size. 12. In Stitch Type, Stitch Types for the Border element are listed in a dropdown menu. 13. Click the drop down at the end of the Running Stitch menu to see the other stitch types used in this Border Element. Note: SuperDesign sets are made of many types of stitches. Only the stitches used in the currently selected element will be visible in the Stitch Type menu. 14. Select Continuous Satin in the menu. 15. Click the Options icon next to the menu. 16. Here, you can select options for the particular stitch type you have chosen. 17. For Continuous Satin, you can adjust Density (the higher the number, the less dense the stitches). Adjust the Density to Underlay helps stabilize the design as it stitches, securing the fabric to the stabilizer and providing support to the finishing stitches that go over the top. Select Edge Walk in Underlay.
8 Page Personal preference dictates what type underlay is specified. Try a sample with Zig Zag, another sample with Edge Walk, and a third sample with both to see how the design stitches with each of the options. 19. Compensation adjusts the width and/or height of the stitches to allow for stitch shrinkage on less stable fabrics. If designing for a woven, you can leave Compensation at 0. If designing for a stretchy fabric, try increasing Compensation to 5 to slightly increase the size of the pattern area. 20. In Continuous Satin, Pattern options are None for a correct satin stitch, or a range of 1 to 12 different fill patterns. In an element this small, None is our choice. However, if we were making a 50mm size, we could choose one of the 12 fill patterns to break up the stitches and prevent them from snagging in our final embroidery. 21. Click OK to close the properties box. 22. Click Apply to create an element in the work area. The element is centered automatically since it is the first in the work area, surrounded by a select box with green handles indicating a SuperDesign that has not been finalized. Remember, you can still manipulate an open SuperDesign to adjust properties and maintain a proper density! 23. At any time in the designing process, you can control-click or right click over an open SuperDesign (indicated by green handles on the select box) for a pop-up menu which contains a Properties menu and Stitch Type menus. If you mirror or combine the SuperDesign element it will be set into final stitches, and you will no longer be able to access the Properties or Stitch Type menus. The select box will become white.
9 Page Undo (CMD Z or Edit>Undo) will undo the changes that finalized the SuperDesign and restore the SuperDesign properties. Create a Stylized, Geometric Design 24. Select the Encore page in the Control Panel. 25. Encore has four Types: Circle, Line, Shape, and Hoop. 26. Select Circle. Click Preview at the bottom of the Control Panel to see how your SuperDesign is duplicated and shaped into a circle. The Preview function lets you try out many different combinations before finalizing an Encore! 27. Position can be set to Standard or Mirrored. Standard will create the motifs all facing the same way. Mirror will reverse every other element so they are mirrored in pairs. 28. Click Mirrored and then click Preview to refresh the view and see how the design changes. 29. Change back to Standard and click Preview. 30. In Type, select Line. 31. Click the drop down menu at the end of Line Type to see the 8 options. Select Line Type 1, a straight line. 32. Set Repeats to 4.
10 Page 33. Click Preview, and the view will show four repeats in a horizontal line, with an adjusting handle on the right end. 34. Click and drag the adjust handle to move the elements closer or farther apart. 35. Select Hoop in Type. 36. Click Preview to see the elements now duplicate and form to the hoop. Note: The size and shape of the SuperDesign (or any other design you are Encoring) will affect how it fits into the hoop. 37. Change the Gap (space between the repeats) to -8, and the Margin (distance in from the stitch boundary of the hoop) to 0. Place a check in Remove Corners. 38. Click Preview to update the view. Tip: With Encore you need to try many different settings and Preview each combination to find the combination that works with the specific element that is being used. 39. In Type click Shape. 40. Drag the slider in the Shape selection and select Shape Leave Remove Corners unchecked, and Gap at Click Preview. 43. Change Gap to -8, and then click Preview. 44. The elements now overlap a little and make a slightly textured wreath. Hold down the CMD keyboard key to keep the design proportional, and then click and drag the control handle at the right side in and out to see how the number of elements changes.
11 Page 45. Adjust the design to your liking, but make sure it will fit within the grid, which indicates the stitching area of the hoop! 46. Click Apply to finalize Encore. The view will change to a select box with white corner handles. Note: If the handles are blue, then the Resize function 47. In the Menu bar, click File, and then click Save. In the drop-down menu, click the button at the end of the Save As box to expand the menu if desired, and browse to the folder of your choice. 48. In Save As, type the name as CircleEncore. is on. The file type for File> Save is.vp3, and the design is not combined, optimized or color sorted when saving. These are multi-part designs, which save just as you created them. As long as you haven t manually merged the design elements, you can reopen these designs in TruEmbroidery to select and remove elements and replace them, which allows quick changes when creating quilt labels or embroidery with names, dates, etc. 49. Click Save. 50. To create a finalized embroidery design that is optimized for stitching, in the Menu bar, click File and then Export. 51. Click the drop down by File Format to select the correct format for your personal embroidery machine. 52. Select your preferred options in Optimize for Sewing. 53. Click Next. 54. The name will be the same
12 Page as you used with File> Save. However, so you can identify the design as optimized, add the word Optimized to the end of the Save As field, after Circle Encore. 55. Click Save. Hold down the alt keyboard key to see File> Save As, if you wish the save the design with a new file name! Create a Version in a New Program Window 1. In the Menu bar, click File and then Duplicate. Duplicate in the File menu opens the design in a new program window as Untitled, and in parenthesis it adds copy to the file name. Duplicate is also used to make a copy when you initiate a file from Finder, so you don t accidentally overwrite the original embroidery design. Always work with a Duplicate in a new window when opening from Finder. 2. In the File Viewer floating panel, click the pop-up menu at the bottom. Select Choose. 3. In the Open menu, select Desktop in Favorites. 4. Under the Open Title bar, click the drop down menu and choose Home. Note: Your Home folder is the same name as your log in account, and everyone will have a different name. However, you will always see the Home icon. 5. Make sure you are in Columns View. 6. Select the TruEmbroidery folder. 7. Select Samples> Inspiration> TruE Packaging> Clothes> Stitch. 8. Click Choose Folder.
13 Page 9. Scroll through the folder of designs using the scrollbars or Gestures. You can adjust the size of the viewer by clicking and dragging a corner. You can also move floating panels around the work area by clicking and dragging their Title bar across the top. 10. Click Nesting Doll 3 to load it into the work area. 11. Drag the file view smaller and move it aside. 12. Click and drag the doll to move her to the bottom of your wreath. The doll was loaded last, so she will stitch over the wreath. 13. In the Menu Bar, select Design, Layout Order, and then Move to Back. The wreath will lay over the top of the doll s base. 14. Click File and hold down the alt keyboard key so you can select Save As and specify a new file name if desired. Browse to the folder of choice and save your embroidery design. Export has removed overlapping stitches to prevent thick areas in your stitches.
