2 3. If desired, click the desired tab to see the differences. Photoshop CS 6 Advanced Changing Workspace Note: Changing Workspace will change the Panel Group appears on the screen. The default Workspace is Essentials. 1. On the Menu bar, click Window. 2. Place the cursor over Workspace and click the desired option, e.g., Photography. Working Images for the Web File Types JPEG Best file format in which to optimize a photograph for the web. GIF Best format for optimizing illustrations, type, and other graphics that have large areas of solid color. PNG A file format in which you can optimize images for the web. o PNG-8 A good alternative to GIF for optimizing solid color illustrations. o PNG-24 Useful for optimizing a graphic set on a transparent background. Optimizing Graphic as JPEG 2. On the Menu bar, click File > Save for o A Save for Web window will pop up. o Original Display the original image. o Optimized Display the optimized image. o 2-Up Display two images, original and optimized. o 4-Up Display four images, original and three different optimized images. 4. On the right panel, in the Preset dropdown list, click the desired JPEG option, e.g., JPEG Medium. 5. If desired, modify the Quality, Blur, or Matte option(s). 6. Click Save when finishing editing 7. If desired, change the File name. 8. Make sure the Format is Images Only and Settings is Default Settings. 9. Click Save. Optimizing Graphic as PNG 2. On the Menu bar, click File > Save for 3. On the right panel of Save for Web popup window, click the Preset drop-down list, click the desired PNG option, e.g., PNG If desired, modify any additional 5. Click Save when finished. 6. If desired, change the File name. 7. Make sure the Format is Images Only and Settings is Default Settings. 8. Click Save. Optimizing Graphic as GIF 2. On the Menu bar, click File > Save for 3. Inserting Copyright Information Note: Photoshop does NOT support Copyright information for GIF and PNG format files. Making a Copyright Template 2. On the Menu bar, click File > File Info o A window will pop up. 3. On the Description panel, in the Copyright section, click the Copyright Status drop-down menu > Copyrighted. 4. In the Copyright Notices text area, enter the desired Copyright information, e.g., Author o Copyright symbol: Mac: Opt + g PC: alt If desired, enter a URL in the Copyright Info URL field. 6. Click the IPTC tab. 9. Click Export 10. Navigate to the desired location. 11. If desired, change the File name. 12. Click Save. 13. Click OK. o On the tabbed window, a Copyright symbol will appear in front of the image name. 14. On the Menu bar, click File > Save for 15. On the right panel, click the Metadata drop-down list > Copyright and Contact Info. 16. Save the image when finished. Importing a Copyright Template 2. On the Menu bar, click File > File info 3. In the Copyright section, click the Copyright Status drop-down menu > Copyrighted. 4. Click the drop-down menu to the right of the Preferences button. 5. Click Import a. A window will pop up. b. Click the desired option > OK. 6. Locate the desired template, click Open. 7. Click OK. 8. Save the image when finished. Working with Layers Unlocking a Background Layer Note: Background layer is different from the regular layers. Users will NOT be able to unlock it by clicking the lock icon. 1. In the Layers panel, double-click the Background layer. 2. In the New Layer pop-up window, rename the layer if desired. 3. Click OK. Searching Layers Note: This is one of the new features in CS 6. The desired layer will be filtered in the Layers panel if found. Blending Options Note: By using the Blending Options, users will be able to modify the layer properties for the selected layer. 1. In the Layers panel, right-click the desired layer. 2. Click Blending Options o Layer Style window will pop up. Blending Options: Default Allow the users to modify some general Bevel & Emboss Allow the users to create a depth or a 3D effect. Stroke Allow the users to create a stroke effect. Inner Shadow Create an inner shadow for the selected layer. Inner Glow Create a glow effect inside the layer. Color Overlay Overlay the layer with selected color. Gradient Overlay Overlay the layer with a gradient effect. Pattern Overlay Overlay the layer with patterns. Outer Glow Create a glow effect outside the layer. Drop Shadow Create a shadow effect for the selected layer. Modifying Blending Options 1. On the Layers panel, right-click the desired layer. 2. Click Blending Options 3. Under Styles, click the desired style(s). 4. If desired, modify any corresponding options in the middle panel. o Example: In Bevel & Emboss section, modify Depth or Size. 5. Users will be able to preview the result if Preview is checked. 6. Click OK when finished editing Working with Filters Filters are used to change the appearance of an image, layer or selection in Photoshop. 1. On the Layers panel, click the desired layer. a. Or select the desired object on the image. 2. On the Menu bar, click Filter. 3. Place the cursor over the desired filter effect, e.g., Stylize. 4. Click the desired effect, e.g., Wind 5. Modify any additional options if needed. o Note: Some of the effects may not have editing 6. When finished, click OK. Note: For additional advanced filters, on the Menu bar, click Filter > Filter Gallery Content-Aware Content-Aware Fill Content-Aware Fill replaces the missing pixels. It matches lighting, tone, and noise so it looks like the deleted content never existed. 1. On a layer or image, make a desired selection. 2. On the Menu bar, click Edit > Fill o A Fill window will pop up. Help Desk: helpdesk@ipfw.edu Page 3
5 3. Click the Use drop-down menu > 5. Navigate to the desired location. Content-Aware. 4. If desired, under Blending section, modify any desired 5. Click OK when finished. 6. Repeat steps 1 5 if needed. Note: Content-Aware works best with small selection. For the best result, divide a large area into several smaller areas. Content-Aware Move Note: This is one of the new features in CS 6. Content-Aware Move will replace the missing pixels when moving selected content. 1. On a layer or an image, make the desired selection. 2. On the Tools panel, click and hold the Healing Brush Tool icon (default). 3. Select Content-Aware Move Tool. 4. Drag the selection to the desired location. a. Replacing the missing pixels may take few minutes depends on the selection areas. Making a Slideshow or Video Note: Photoshop only supports media files: images or video clips. For PDF: Photoshop only supports PDF that was created by Photoshop. Creating PowerPoint Images 1. In PowerPoint, create or open a presentation. 2. On the Menu bar, click File > Save As. 3. In the File name field, enter a name. 4. In the Save as type drop-down list, click any media format, e.g., JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg). o Windows Media Video Save as a video clip. o GIF Graphics Interchange Format Save as GIF images. o JPEG File Interchange Format Save as JPEG images (recommended). o PNG Portable Network Graphics Format Save as PNG images. o TIFF Tag Image File Format Save as TIFF images (not recommended due to large file size). 6. Click Save. o This will create a folder with all the media files. Creating Photoshop Slideshow 1. Start Photoshop. 2. On the Menu bar, click File. 3. Place the cursor over Automate, click PDF Presentation. o PDF Presentation window will pop up. 4. Click Browse to locate and Open the desired image files. 5. Under Output Options section, click Presentation. a. If desired, modify any Output Options, e.g., check Title. 6. Under Presentation Options, modify any desired options, e.g., Advance Every 3 Seconds and Transition. 7. Click Save when finished. 8. Navigate to the desired location. 9. In the Audio Track, click the music note icon > Add Audio... b. Locate and Open the desired audio file. 10. Click Render Video o Note: Depends on the file size, initializing make take longer time. o Render Video window will pop up. 11. In the Name field, enter a name. 12. Click Select Folder to navigate to the desired location. 13. Modify any additional options if needed, e.g., change Preset to the desired video quality. 14. Click Render when finished. Using Magic Wand Tool Note: Magic Wand tool is similar to the Quick Selection tool. It allows the user to select an area of an image based on its color. When you click an area in an image with the magic wand, all areas with similar color are selected. 1. In Photoshop, from the Tools panel, click the Magic Wand icon. a. If the Magic Wand icon is not shown, click and hold the cursor over the Quick Selection icon. b. Click Magic Wand Tool. 2. On the image or layer, click the desired area. Help Desk: Page 6
