2 iphone Overview Your Apple ID is the account you use for just about everything you do with Apple. If you already have an Apple ID use it when you first set up your iphone or ipad. If you do not have an Apple ID you can create one any place you are asked to sign in. 2

4 Features of the Lock Screen in ios 10 To access lock screen, press the Sleep/Wake button (or press Home button). In 6S or newer iphone models, lift the iphone. (Two screens) To unlock screen, tap Home button again. Then tap password to unlock. Pressing one time with Touch ID will unlock device. In Settings go to General>Accessibility>Home Button> Rest Finger to Open. To turn device off or on tap and hold Sleep/Wake button. To turn off, slide icon. To turn on, press button and then wait until Apple icon disappears. 4

7 ipad Home Screen Tap an App to open it. iphone Home Screen Press the Home button anytime to return to the Home screen. Swipe left or right to see additional Home screens or tap dots. Rotate device for Portrait or Landscape view. To lock either view tap in Control Center. Red Numbered badges on app indicate how many new items await. 7 Starred Apps unique to iphone

8 Switch between apps Double-click the Home Button to reveal all the open apps in the app switcher. Swipe sideways to see more. To switch to another app, tap it. To close an app swipe the app up from the display. If app is not working correctly, swipe up from app switcher to force quit. Search for an app To search for an app swipe the center of the Home screen down to see the search field. Folders To create folders drag one app over another to create folder. Tap on title of folder to change name of folder. Move or Remove App To move or remove app, tap and hold until it shakes. To remove tap x. To restore app to device go to Purchased in the App Store and re-download. To move app hold and slide app to desired location. Tap Home button to stop shaking. 8

9 Notifications Notifications keep you up to date on information from your apps or news about your day. You can customize your notifications in Settings. They appear as badges, banners, or alerts on the screen and can include sounds. Notifications can be seen on the lock screen, at the top of the screen while using the device, and to see all at once by swiping down from the top edge of the screen. To close notifications swipe up or press Home button. Badge - Red dot that appears on corresponding app Banner - Appears at top of screen for a few seconds Alert - Appears on screen until manually dismissed Swipe left to respond - view or clear Tap notification to open (will go to password screen before going to app) In Settings choose whether to show notifications on Lock Screen In Settings> Do Not Disturb or with Siri, silence Notifications Do Not Disturb - Crescent icon, to schedule go to settings 9

10 Today View with Widgets Scroll left to right on lock screen or home screen to get information from your favorite apps at a glance. To Choose which widgets appear, tap Edit at the bottom of the Today View Screen. Tap + or - to add or remove widgets, then Done. To arrange the order of your widgets, touch three horizontal lines, then drag to a new position. 12 Airplane Mode - Cellular, WiFi, & Bluetooth off- Other apps usable Cellular - Manage carrier, roaming, usage, data for apps, personal hotspot WiFi - Networking technology to provide wireless internet to devices Blue Tooth - Wireless technology to exchange data between devices Do Not Disturb - Function to silence devices through scheduling Rotation Lock - Lock device in portrait or landscape mode Brightness - Slider control to change level of brightness Air Play - Apple technology to stream content from devices (ex. apple TV) Night Shift - Control display to reduce blue light (warmer light) Air Drop - Wirelessly transfer files between nearby devices 12

14 General About - Information about device including OS version, model, serial number, number of songs, videos, photos, and apps. Software Update - Determines if your device is up to date and lists updates if needed. Spotlight Search - Scroll down from middle of Home Page - Search internet & apps. In Settings choose which apps to search, turn off/on Siri Suggestions, turn off/on Search and Look Up suggestions. Handoff - Lets you start something on one device and instantly pick it up on other devices using icloud account. Only available in later OS versions of devices. Appears on lock screen, app switcher and Dock on Mac. Multitasking - (ipad only) Allows overlay of apps and videos as well as gestures. (Slide over, Split view, Picture in picture) Car Play - (iphone only) Used with cars equipped with car play. 14

(Not to be confused with backing up to itunes on computer.) Syncing is recommended through icloud and then regular manual backups to itunes on computer through direct connection is also recommended. VPN - Configure a VPN service if a subscriber. Regulatory - Regulatory information Reset - Resetting various sections of the device 16

17 itunes WiFi Sync When you back up ipad using icloud, you can t simultaneously use itunes to automatically back up ipad to your computer. However, you can use itunes to manually back up ipad to your computer. See Setup Category 17

24 Privacy With your permission, Location Services allows apps and websites (including Maps, Camera, Weather, etc.) to use information from cellular, WiFi, GPS networks, and Bluetooth to determine your approximate location. If on, a black or white arrow icon appears in the status bar. You must give each app permission before they can access your location. You can reset Location Services in General Settings. Periodically your device will send locations to Apple for their crowd sourcing database. It is anonymous and encrypted. During emergency calls your iphone s location info may be used even if not enabled. Messages, Friends, Find My Phone 24

27 SELECTING TEXT IN IOS 10 A feature in ios 10 is a new virtual keyboard. The keyboard can quickly turn into a trackpad for quickly navigating and editing text. When typing with the keyboard, you can convert it to a trackpad by placing two fingers on the screen anywhere inside the keyboard. The keys will turn dark gray, losing all letters and numbers. You can move the cursor by dragging both fingers across the screen, lifting your fingers when the cursor has reached its destination. You can use the same setup to highlight large blocks of text. Instead of placing two fingers on the screen, however, you'll quickly double-tap with two fingers (leaving both on the screen on the second tap). The nearest text word or character (to the cursor) will become highlighted, with more text becoming highlighted as you drag your fingers across. The trackpad functionality is easy to use as long as you remember one thing: spread your fingers apart just a little bit. 27
