1 PanelMate epro PS Family Restore Factory Image Load Introduction The restore factory image load kits provides a simple way for users to reset the load of the internal CompactFlash, that holds the Operating System (OS), to the factory installed image. This gives users a field-recovery method for Operating System problems. The restore factory image load kits are for use with the PanelMate epro PS models. These include the PanelMate epro PS, PanelMate epro PS Classic, PanelMate epro PS EE (Enterprise Edition), and PanelMate epro PS OD (Outdoor Series). Each version of the restore factory image load kit is to be used only on a specific PanelMate epro PS model, but you may restore as many units of that model as desired. You no longer need to purchase a separate restore kit for each unit you wish to restore back to the factory image. Throughout this document, epro PS refers to any model of the PanelMate epro PS family unless otherwise specified. Required Equipment Microsoft compatible USB keyboard Microsoft compatible USB mouse Ethernet network connection Restore CompactFlash Instructions for reloading the Operating System: 1. Remove power from the epro PS unit. 2. Remove all field-installed hardware such as PCMCIA cards, USB devices, Serial devices, Slave monitor connected to the VGA port of a display unit, or PCI cards. This will help avoid initialization errors during the Operating System build. 3. Install the Restore CompactFlash in the external CompactFlash connector. 4. Install a Microsoft compatible USB keyboard in one of the two USB 1.1 ports. Note: BIOS menu is only available via USB 1.1 ports. You may also optionally install a Microsoft compatible USB mouse in one of the unused USB ports. 5. Make sure the epro PS unit is connected over Ethernet or the network services will not be installed. 6. If you are restoring an epro PS Blind Node unit, make sure the display is connected to the VGA port and that the Touchscreen is plugged into serial port Apply power to the epro PS unit. During boot up, press the Delete key to enter the BIOS menu. Note: Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate BIOS menus. July 2005 Page 1 of

4 13. Press F10 key on keyboard and then press the Enter key (See Figure 5). This will save the settings. Figure Allow the epro PS unit to boot up. The Restore CompactFlash will automatically launch and install the factory image. When finished, the program will terminate to a DOS prompt. 15. Remove power from the epro PS unit. 16. Remove the Restore CompactFlash from the external CompactFlash connector. 17. Install a Microsoft compatible USB mouse in one of the USB ports if you have not already done so. 18. Apply power to the epro PS unit. During boot up, press the Delete key to enter the BIOS menu. 19. Change back the First Boot Device to HDD-0 and the Second Boot Device to HDD-1. Press F10 to exit and save the changes. (See steps 8-13) 20. The epro PS unit will now boot into the re-initialization process for the OS. July 2005 Page 4 of
5 21. The boot process will take anywhere from 5 to 12 minutes. During this time, the screen in Figure 6 should appear. The Operating System will be testing and searching out all installed hardware during this time period. If any field installed hardware was not removed at step 2 of this procedure, you may encounter errors. To resolve these errors you may need to remove the hardware and execute this procedure again. Figure 6 July 2005 Page 5 of
6 22. When the Operating System is finished building, the System Settings Change window should appear (See Figure 7). If the window appears, click on the Yes button. This initiates proper operation of the Protect Mode Save function. If the PanelMate epro PS background appears without the System Settings Change window, wait 5 minutes and then click Start> Programs> epro Tools> Protect Mode Save> Protect Mode Save> OK. This initiates proper operation of the Protect Mode Save function. Figure This completes the loading of the Operating System. 24. To complete the restoration to the factory installed image for the epro PS unit, you will need to follow a specific list of instructions. The list of instructions is unique for each model because the factory settings are unique for each model. July 2005 Page 6 of
