1 November 4, 2008 The Spring 2008 election was a Presidential Preference Primary election with Presidential Nominee elections for the Democratic and Republican parties and elections for the Democratic State Central Committee Members, Democratic Parish Executive Committee Members, Republican State Central Committee Members, and Republican Parish Executive Committee Members. It also included the regularly scheduled elections for Greenwood. An election in July 2008 included five propositions for the City of Shreveport and two for Fire District #5. The closed primary election for Congressional District normally would have been held in September 2008, but was postponed due to Hurricane Gustav and ran instead during October, November, and December. The October 2008 elections included a U.S. Representative Party Primary election where Democrats could vote for Democrats and Republicans could vote for Republicans. All other scheduled elections were open primary elections, where voters could vote on any candidate regardless of the candidates' or the voters' parties. Other regularly scheduled elections included Public Service Commissioner, District Court Judges, District Attorney, Juvenile Court Judge, Shreveport City Court Judge, Shreveport City Court Marshal, Justices of the Peace, Constables, and elections for Hosston, Ida, Oil City, and Rodessa. Fire District #8 also had two propositions on the ballot. The November 2008 election was the Presidential election, which also included an open general election for U.S. Senator. A party runoff election was held for U.S. Representative, where Democrats could vote for Democrats and Republicans could vote for Republicans. The ballot included runoff elections for the District Court Judges and the Ward 6 Constable. Seven parishwide Constitutional Amendments, 12 parishwide Parish Commission Home Rule Charter Amendments, and one proposition for Ida were also part of the ballot. The December 2008 election served as the runoff for the U.S. Representative election. Unless otherwise noted, charts show only the Caddo Parish portion of results.
