4 2. Software Verification and Certificate of Installation 2.1 Software Check The Simrad Software Upgrade Tool (SWUP) is an essential requirement for managing software verification and upload processes. It is an NMEA2000 to PC interface system and is a powerful tool that will also help you with troubleshooting and with QC control. The SWUP tool (also known as ST10) can be ordered from your Simrad supplier, p/n To confirm that all Instruments have latest software connect the SimNet Data Reader/Software Upgrade Tool (SWUP) to the network and run the Software Upgrade program. This will display the software versions of all SimNet enabled products (eg IS20, AP24, NSE, NSO, RS80) on the network and is essential for carrying out software updates to IS20, AP24, AP28 and associated active SimNet devices such as RF25 and FC40. The displayed software versions can be cross referenced against latest software from a table of Software Versions which is kept up to date in the Software Downloads section of the Simrad Support web. This can be accessed by logging in to Note that for the RS25 (and any other products that do are not fully NMEA 2000 compliant) it is not possible to read the software version using the SWUP Tool. In such cases it will be necessary to check the product label. 2.2 Software Update Method The method for updating the software varies from one product to another. The Software Version table, referenced above, describes which method to use for each product eg by using the SWUP (ST10) tool or by USB stick or by SD card. 2.3 Network Verification and Certificate of Installation It is essential to verify the network integrity and take a record of the installation using the SWUP (ST10) tool. From the Software Upgrade startup screen click on the Commissioning Wizard button. In step 1 you must see 3 green ticks before proceeding. A red cross indicated a problem that must be corrected before proceeding. Enter relevant details in Steps 2 & 3.

5 In Step 4 manually enter the details of any products that are not automatically detected - these are devices that are not connected directly to the SimNet network for example RS10,RS25,BSM- 1, StructureScan, Radar Processor for HD Radars, BR24 Radome. Step 5 can normally be skipped unless it is necessary to reset a product back to factory defaults Step 6 allows Autopilot steering parameters to be imported from a manually created setup file. If setup files have not been created skip this step. During the process an Excel Certificate of Installation is created that contains all of the products, their serial numbers and software versions. This file must be saved and ed to Navico (natalie.griffiths@navico.com) A copy of the Certificate should also be printed and filed on board with the boats documents.

6 3 IS20 Instruments The first task prior to setting up any instruments is to assign the data sources to the network. Note that the instructions below for the IS20 Combi are generally applicable to the IS20 Graphic. **All data sources (speed and depth transducers, GPS, Wind Transducer, compass etc) must be connected to the network prior to assigning up the data sources.** 3.1 IS20 Combi; Data Source Setup - Global SimNet Reset. On the IS20 Combi press MENU. Select Service then press MENU Select Resets then press MENU Select Global then press MENU Confirm Display shows Setup sources now? press MENU Ensure that all connected products are on and then press MENU When Completed press MENU All displays should now show speed, depth, wind, position, compass heading etc depending on what data sources are on the network. 3.2 IS20 Combi; Language Setup Power on the Instruments On the IS20 Combi press the MENU key Select Setup then press MENU. Select Language then press MENU Highlight the required language then press MENU Note that all instruments and AP24 autopilots will all reconfigure to the selected language. Select Installation then pressmenu Select Calibration then press MENU Select Boat Speed then press MENU Choose calibration method: calibrate boat speed to GPS speed or enter a correction factor. Once selected press MENU To return to the main display press <key repeatedly. 3.6 Installing and Wiring the IS20 Wind Vane If the yacht arrives with the mast un-stepped it will be necessary to install the supplied Wind Vane and to connect the mast cable. Attach the wind vane mounting plate to the top of the mast. The ideal orientation is with the wind vane pointing dead ahead. The wind vane assembly simply clicks onto the mounting plate. The mast is prewired with the masthead wind cable. Locate the end of the cable and insert the yellow ended SimNet cable into the mast vane socket. Push the stainless retaining clip over the cable to prevent it working loose, Figure 1. Once the mast has been stepped locate the end of the mast cable inside the boat. Locate the 3 way (or 7 way) SimNet joiner at the foot of the mast. If there is a small plug (termination plug) in the joiner remove it. Plug the mast cable into any spare port in the joiner. Power up the IS20 System and follow the procedure for the IS20 Wind Vane Setup in Error! Reference source not found.. Figure 1: Retaining Clip

14 7.1 AI50 Installation 7 AI50 Class B AIS Note that the AI50 must be connected to its own GPS antenna. This is a requirement of the Class B AIS regulations. Note regarding connection to NX40: The NX40 receives AIS data via NMEA0183 port (FUEL/NAV). It will not receive AIS data via SimNet. It is therefore necessary to make a connection between the AI50 NMEA output and the NX40 FUEL/NAV port using cable AA The GB40 receives AIS information direct from SimNet so in this case it is only necessary to connect the AI50 direct to the SImNet network. If not already done confirm that targets displayed on the AI50 are also displayed on the GB40 or NX40 (if fitted). 7.2 AI50 Setup The AI50 operates in receive only mode until the end user s MMSI is programmed in. Programming the MMSI is a simple procedure by following the onscreen prompts. Language Setup: Press the PWR key Press the MENU key Use the or keys and select System Setup, From the submenu select Set Language Scroll down to the language that you require and press MENU Repeatedly press key to return to the main
