2 The Program Open Word Margins are preset to Normal, 1 inch for Top, Bottom, Right & Left; change by clicking on Page Layout Tab on Ribbon, Page Setup Group, Margins. Tabs are preset every half inch on ruler Use Print Layout view for typing (2nd icon, bottom right corner of screen) Begin typing. Save frequently by pressing CTRL S on the keyboard or click the Save icon on the Quick Access toolbar, top left. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 2
3 New Page and Page Numbers Typing to end of page automatically gives another page. To force a page break, click to position cursor where page break is desired, press and hold CTRL key, press ENTER on keyboard, release both keys together. To insert page numbers, cursor can be ANYWHERE in document; click Insert Tab on Ribbon, Header & Footer Group, click Page Number. Click Top or Bottom of Page. Click desired choice. Header or Footer area will open with page number in it. Double click Header or Footer Tab in the document to close the Header or Footer area. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 3
4 Setting Tabs 5 tab styles, left, center, right, decimal, bar Tab style icon at far left end of ruler; default is left style Click on tab style icon to change tab style To set tab, click on desired location on ruler To change a tab, highlight all text that uses the tab, locate mouse on tab on ruler, hold down left mouse button and drag left or right on ruler, release mouse when tab is in new location on ruler. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 4
5 Indents Indents move entire paragraphs from the margins. This is for a LEFT INDENT, the most common indent used. Type desired text FIRST. Do not tab or use spacebar. Do put in correct line spacing. Highlight all text AFTER typing. Click Home Tab, Paragraph Group, click increase indent icon. Click button again for more indenting. Click decrease indent icon for less indenting. Indent button indents every half inch or wherever you have set TABS on the ruler. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 5
6 Numbers and Bullets Type desired text FIRST. Do not indent or tab. Do put in correct line spacing. Highlight all text AFTER typing. Click Home Tab, Paragraph Group, click bullet or numbers icons. Bullets icon Numbers icon 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 6
7 Moving Text (cutting & pasting) To move: Highlight desired text by holding down left button as you drag mouse across it. Press CTRL X on keyboard to cut text OR Click Home Tab, Clipboard Group, click scissors icon. Text disappears. Don t panic... Locate cursor (blinking line) by clicking the mouse at new location. Click Home Tab, Clipboard Group, click Paste icon. Or press CTRL V on keyboard. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 7
8 Copying Text (copying & pasting) To copy: highlight desired text by holding down left button as you drag mouse across it. Click Home Tab, Clipboard Group, click copy icon. Or press CTRL C on keyboard. Locate cursor (blinking line) by clicking the mouse at new location. Click Home Tab, Clipboard Group, click Paste icon. 9 Headers/Footers Double click at very TOP of document OR click Insert Tab on Ribbon, Header & Footer Group, click Header or Footer - click desired choice. Header box appears at top, Footer box appears at bottom. Begin typing, format by highlighting text after you type it. Double Click on Header or Footer tab, left side of page, to stop typing in the Header or Footer OR double click in body of document. Use Header/Footers to place information you wish to automatically repeat on each page (Header at top, Footer at bottom). 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 9
10 Tables (fill and borders are in Paragraph Group) Click Insert Tab on Ribbon, Tables Group, click Table icon. Highlight desired number of white squares (cells) to form table by dragging mouse button across them; click left mouse button in last cell. Table appears in document. Type in cells of the table. Use TAB, or arrow key to move between cells in table. See Design and Layout Tabs on Ribbon at top for more Table options. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 10
11 Inserting Clip Art Click Insert Tab on Ribbon, Illustrations Group, click Online Pictures icon Insert Pictures window appears. Type a descriptive name for the clip art you want to search for in the white box stating Search Bing Click on magnifying icon to begin search. Scroll through and double click on desired piece of clipart. Click once on the clip art to select it. A Format Tab appears on Ribbon. Click Text Wrapping, in Arrange Group. Click Tight. This allows the clip art to be moved anywhere in the document and have text wrapped AROUND the clipart. Resize or move using mouse. Use double headed arrows to re-size, four headed arrow to move. 8/19/2015 The Computor Tutor 11
12 Printing Click File Tab, top left. Click Print. Print Preview and Settings appear on same screen. Look at choices under Settings before printing AND review your document on the right. Click Printer icon, if ready to print; click back arrow top left, if not ready to print. Make appropriate changes, SAVE, click File, Print again.
