1 Release Notes Fiery E C-KM Color Server version 1.1 This document contains information about the Fiery E C-KM Color Server, version 1.1. Before using the Fiery E C-KM Color Server, make copies of these Release Notes and distribute the copies to all users. NOTE: This document uses the term Fiery E 10 to refer to the Fiery E C-KM Color Server. The term copier is used to refer to the color copier connected to the Fiery E 10. Before printing to the Fiery E 10 : Verify that the correct system software version is installed on the Fiery E 10. For information about configuration and administration of the Fiery E 10, see Configuration and Setup. Install software on users computers. For installation instructions, see Utilities. For information about system requirements, see Welcome. Mac OS X Mac OS X support The Fiery E 10 supports Mac OS X v to v10.4 or later. Installation and Setup Setup from the copier touch panel When you save changes that you have made to Setup, the copier touch panel displays the Engine Basic screen instead of the expected Fiery E 10 screen. To return to the Fiery E 10 screen, press the Utility Counter button on the copier touch panel, and then select the Controller Details option. Microsoft Windows Vista When you add the Fiery E 10 to an SMB network using the Add Printer Wizard on a Windows Vista system, some printing options may not take effect. To fix the problem, install the driver using Point and Print, or reboot the Vista computer after the driver is installed. MAC Address filtering When you add one or more MAC addresses from the Add dialog box, the addresses are not displayed in the list until you close the dialog box. Mac OS In some cases, Mac OS users may be unable to send jobs to the Fiery E 10, even if the computer s IP address is registered. To receive and process jobs sent from the Mac OS computer, the Fiery E 10 must be configured to accept the IP address of the router used by the Mac OS computer. 2 Page 2 Print and Hold queue Setup The queue name in Printer Setup is case-sensitive. You must type hold or print (all lowercase). If you enter an invalid queue name, for example Hold, jobs are automatically routed to the default ( print ) queue. LDAP User Authentication Printing with User Authentication from Macintosh OS X does not support LDAP format authentication. Use the user accounts in the Fiery E 10 or the copier local users for Macintosh User Authentication. Printing Mixed-size documents The Duplex setting may not work correctly on documents with mixed sizes. Binding is performed based on the orientation of the first page. Maximum number of copies The maximum number of copies is 9,999. If your job requires a greater number of copies than the maximum number, send the job two or more times to complete the required number of copies. Mac OS Enter only numbers in the Box Number setting on the Job Info tab. Entering any other characters may produce an error. Composite Overprint If a job contains the CIEBasedDEFG color space, it cannot be printed with Composite Overprint on. The job prints with Composite Overprint off regardless of the Composite Overprint setting. Page Per Sheet and Mirror printer driver options When Landscape, 6-up, and Mirror printer driver options are set at the same time for your print job, the pages of your job may print in the wrong order. Avoid using these options together to ensure the correct page order for your job. Printer driver PCL When the number of pending files does not update, or when the displayed job status is incorrect, refresh the status information manually by pressing the F5 button. Windows PostScript Driver General information is obtained from Windows instead of the Fiery E 10. This information may not be correct in Printer Properties.

3 Page 3 Point and Print install When installing a printer driver through the Point and Print method, go to the Properties > Installable Options tab and click OK/Apply to save the installable options of the Fiery E 10. When Point and Print is performed from a virtual printer queue, the printer driver settings are updated via bi-directional communication from the virtual printer queue defined on the Fiery E 10. Bi-directional communication is not initialized in the printer driver until the printer driver is opened. For these reasons, in order for the correct virtual printer settings to be sent in the PostScript output file, you must open printing preferences by clicking the Properties button in the print dialog box of the application. Click OK to save the settings, and then print the job. Once the properties are opened and the settings are saved, all of the correct settings will be present in the printed file. Virtual printers If you lock the Paper Size setting in the Job Properties of a virtual printer, the Document Size setting is locked instead. Command WorkStation Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition Job Properties Print Summary When you print the Job Properties Summary, an incorrect paper size is displayed for your job. To work around this, select Paper handling > Destination paper Size and select the correct paper size. The Job Properties Summary will then print with the specified paper size. Printing When you print a range of pages of a job, the output may not be as expected. Booklet and binding settings may cause the output order of pages to change. Backing up and restoring fonts With Command WorkStation, you can back up and restore fonts. This feature is described incorrectly in Command WorkStation Help. Observe these guidelines before backing up or restoring fonts: Only PostScript fonts can backed up and restored. All fonts are backed up or restored (you cannot select individual fonts). Do not back up fonts to an internal hard disk drive that also contains the Fiery E 10 system software. You must restore fonts only to the same Fiery E 10 from which the fonts were originally backed up.

4 Page 4 Fiery Remote Scan Quitting Fiery Remote Scan on Mac OS X To quit Remote Scan version 5.3 and 5.4 on a Mac OS X computer, use your mouse to close the Remote Scan application window. You cannot quit the application from the main menu or by pressing Command+Q. Using Fiery Remote Scan Plug-in in Adobe Photoshop on Mac OS X If you open Fiery Remote Scan in Adobe Photoshop and set Sides to Single, the Fiery Remote Scan window closes after the scan is completed. If you set Sides to Double, the window stays open after the scan is completed. If you then change the Sides setting from Double to Single and scan again, the window remains open but is inactive. If this occurs, close the window and then open it again. Copier Copier touch panel continues to update job status When you print multiple small jobs at the same time, the copier touch panel may continue to update the status of jobs after all of the jobs finish printing. This continues for a few minutes until all the job statuses complete processing. WebTools If you enter the IP address of the Fiery E 10 in Internet Explorer on a Windows 2008 computer, the WebTools pages may not be displayed. To access WebTools, add the IP address and the domain to the trusted sites in Control Panel/Internet Properties/Security. Also add the IP or domain to the Sites in the local intranet of the Control Panel/Internet Properties/Security. Applications Microsoft Word If you print a document with mixed sizes, binding, and punch settings from Word, the job may not be printed on the correct paper size. To fix the problem, set a PCL printer driver as the default driver, and then open the Word document that you want to print. In Word, choose a PostScript printer driver and print the document. Adobe Acrobat 8 An Acrobat 8 document with booklet settings may not print as expected. For the document to print properly, the document s settings must match the settings in the Page Setup dialog box in Acrobat 8. A document with top binding settings may be incorrectly bound on the left edge. To avoid this problem, in the Acrobat 8 Print dialog box, clear the Auto-Rotate and Center option, and then select Choose Paper Source by PDF page size. In the Fiery E 10 Print Properties dialog box, set the desired booklet settings, but make sure not to change the orientation of the document.

5 Page 5 When the Acrobat 8 Collate option is selected, multiple PostScript copy jobs print as one copy. This may affect finishing. To obtain the correct page and copy count, clear the Acrobat 8 Collate option. Finishing options for staple and collate do not function properly with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.x and Intel Mac OS To work around this, upgrade to Acrobat Reader 9, available as a free download at the Adobe website, and Intel Mac OS Print speeds may be slower than expected with Acrobat 8. Upgrade to Acrobat 9 for better print performance. For information about upgrading to Acrobat 9, see the Adobe website. Adobe Acrobat 7 If you use Fiery RemoteScan to scan a document, and then open the scanned document with Acrobat 7, an error message may appear. To avoid this problem, upgrade to Acrobat 8. Adobe Acrobat 6 If an error message appears when you open PDF files, upgrade to Acrobat to 7.x or later. Adobe Acrobat PDF If areas of your job output with extra shading, select Choose Paper Source by PDF page size when you print your PDF job. Adobe Photoshop If you print a job from Adobe Photoshop using the Print One Copy option, and you specify a watermark in the printer driver, an error occurs and the job prints without a watermark. This issue has been resolved in Adobe Photoshop CS4. QuarkXPress QuarkXPress may stop responding when trying to print a job. To avoid this problem, start the Printer Setup utility in QuarkXPress, choose a different available printer as the default printer, and try to print the job again.

6 Page 6 Documentation and Online Help Online Help and Internet browsers The online Help files for the Fiery utilities are developed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.5 and later. If you use other browsers, such as Safari or previous versions of Internet Explorer, the Help files may not display properly. With Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer, Help files may not display or display properly in the following situations: If your browser uses a pop-up blocker, it may block Help files. If this happens, temporarily disable your pop-up blocker to display the file. If your browser has the advanced Internet option enabled to display notifications about script errors, it might display a warning window before displaying a Help file page. To avoid the warning window, clear the Display a notification about every script error option on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. A warning message might also appear in the Status bar, but the content of the Help file is not affected by this error.
