1 Secure MaxMarkup 4.0 MaxMarkup contains many enhancements over the MaxTakeoff and Secure MaxReader levels of MaxView, such as enhanced document viewing, enhanced markup and annotation tools, layers and layer templates, collaborative sharing of document information, and the ability to utilize multi-page TIF files. When the user opens a TIF or CAL image in MaxMarkup, they have additional functionality with the toolbars. These markup tools allow users to annotate their documents with lines, poly lines, circles, ellipses, arcs, rectangles and polygons, text, notes, attach files, highlighters, arrows, hotspots and more. Each of those annotations will be placed on the drawing, but the drawing itself is NOT altered, it acts as a layer on top of the original document. More about layers ahead. Users can rearrange the toolbars to suit their needs by left mouse clicking on the corner of the toolbar grouping and moving it to where they want it to be. MaxView will save the toolbar configuration for the next session. With the 4.0 release of MaxView, new tools have been created for the Markup level. These tools include Sketch Line, Sketch Highlighter, Straight Line Highlighter, Arrow tool, Note tool, Attachment tool, Text annotation tool, and the Image Overlay tool
2 The Sketch Line tool is great for free hand sketching on an image. Just select the tool and sketch on drawing as needed. Users can change the color, width and style of the sketch line by rt. clicking, selecting Set Attributes from the zip menu and altering the Line Attributes. You ll see that you can edit all of the attributes of your objects from this menu. See Layer Attributes image below. The second new tool is Sketch Highlighter. With the sketch highlighter, users can highlight certain areas free hand on the image, in a color that they designate, to highlight a certain area of the screen. With the Straight Line Highlighter, users can draw highlights on the screen in a straight line only. The color is selectable as well, which can be useful for having multiple highlights on the same drawing for different reasons. Next, we have the Arrow Tool. With the arrow tool, it is possible to draw an arrow on the screen, which can be used to point out a specific portion of the drawing. The color, size and style of the arrow are definable as well. With the Note tool, the user can place notes on the drawing, and other users can use the reply functionality of the notes feature to respond. It is also possible to use the notes shortcut functionality, which will bring in a large amount of text into your note with a single keystroke. To accomplish this, put in a shortcut, say and press Control+H. This will bring the text from the shortcut into the note field. **This requires that you ve installed the shortcut 2 4.0
3 information files, which are created for individual governmental entities. Please contact Tech Support for more information on how to set up the note shortcut functionality. The Attachment tool allows users to attach any Windows format file to your MaxView document. For example, users can attach a PDF file, an XLS file or even a DWG/DWF CAD drawing to their MaxView document. The user would see an icon on the drawing that can be clicked to open the attachment (provided they had an application installed on their machine that would allow viewing of the attached file type). Once all markups are included in the document, a user can see all the markups and annotations in an organized report format. The Markup Summary Report can be invoked either from the File menu, under Reports, Markup Summary Report, or by clicking on the Markup Summary Report button below: on the Markup toolbar. A dialog box pops up allowing you to filter as seen This allows users to choose whether (or not) Notes, Attachments, Text Annotations, and regular Annotations are shown in the summary report. Users can also choose to see notes created in the last <span of time> and notes containing a certain word or phrase
4 Additionally, text can be placed on the screen by selecting the Annotation tool change the color and size of the font utilized with the text annotation.. Users can Type text here The image overlay tool, which is unique to the MaxMarkup levels and above of MaxView, allows the user to place an image on top of the plan or under foreground without modifying the plan. Users can access the Edit Attributes dialogue box by selecting the edit tool then selecting the object and rt. clicking to bring up the Zip Menu. From this menu you can select Edit Attributes. The Zip Menu is a very useful feature that has different options available to select depending on the type of tool selected
5 Layers The next feature covered is Layers. MaxView creates layers to save all annotation information. When opening a project in MaxView, you ll find the Document Explorer window on the left hand side of the screen. At the bottom of this window are three different tabs- Pages, Layers, & History. The Layers tab is where all annotations go. When information is saved in MaxMarkup, a file with a.maxmu file extension is created. This file has all of the annotations created on the layer and is called New Layer, which can be renamed by right-clicking. Layer templates can be created (one for doors, one for windows, one for outlets, etc.) and designated for every distinction or discipline variable the user could wish for. That layer can have it s own symbol colors, line colors, line widths, etc. These are called Layer Attributes. Just select Save As Layer Template in the Layer Attributes dialog window. For more information on this function see page 5. Another benefit of layers is that only the selected visible layers will show up in the information window. So if the user has a layer for doorknobs and a layer for windows, and only wants to see the count of doorknobs, they can hide the other layers by removing the checkmark next to the layer name in the Document Explorer Layers tab. Since removing the checkmark removes the visibility of the layer, any counts on that layer will NOT show up in the information window. Once annotations are on the screen, they can be moved if necessary. Select the Select Objects tool, then the annotation/s that need to be moved, then select the move tool,. Left click and drag the object to it s new location. Once layers and/or modifications are made, the layer can then be locked so that other users of the document cannot make changes to it. To do this, right click on the layer name and select Lock Layer. This will pop up a dialog and ask you for a password. The password IS CASE SENSITIVE. Once the layer is locked, the password must be entered in order to make changes or delete it
6 By right clicking in the layers window you have access to all of the layer functionality in MaxMarkup. Users can create, delete, and modify layers in a MaxMarkup document. Each layer can have its own attributes. Deleting the layer cannot be undone, so be very careful with this command. Layer Templates is a great advantage of MaxMarkup as you can create a standard set of layers, with layer attributes and use those layers with EVERY document in the future. If users have multiple copies of MaxMarkup, layer templates can be moved to another machine without having to recreate them. To move layer templates to another machine, go to C:\Program Files\MaxView directory. In this directory is a file called LayerTemplates.txt. Copy this file to the additional PC s under c:\program Files\MaxView directory. Then go into a MaxView document, right click on the Layers tab in the Document Explorer window, select Layer Templates and then select Restore. Your layer templates are now available to select. Once users have all their annotations on screen, created on different layers, the next step is to define which layer they reside on. Select an object (see below) and right click. From the Zip Menu check the Display Tags box. Users will now see a layer tag for each annotation on the drawings. See image below: 6 4.0
7 MaxView images are single-bit (two-color black and white) files. To get the effect of a multicolored image, you can "lay down" one image file on top of another and add or edit color in each layer. To edit a color layer: 1. On the Edit menu, select Color Layers. 2. On the Color Layers dialog box, click Add. 3. On the Open File dialog box, browse and select a file, then click Open. The specified file is added to the list in the Color Layers dialog box. 4. To edit the color, click the color box and select a color. 5. To view the result click Apply, or to accept the result click OK. 6. To scroll through the list of file layers, click Up or Down. 7. To remove a file from the list, click Remove. 8. Click OK. This these layer function will only work on projects on LOCAL hard drives/network hard drives. If the user is viewing a project online, they will not be able to create color layers. To create them with on-line projects, select File, then Copy Document For Offline Viewing. This will save a copy of the project to the local hard drive for saving annotations and mark up s as desired
8 Hotspots MaxView 4.0 has the ability to use and create Hotspots. Hotspots can be used to quickly take the user from one spot in a document to another, or even launch a program, website, or another MaxView document. Users can choose the type of hotspot wanted, then place it on the screen. See dialog below: To jump to another page within the same document, simply click on Jump/Zoom within this Document. Then, click on Apply. This dialog will pop up: Next, select the page you wish to have the Hotspot jump to by double clicking on it and press Save Page and Zoom on the dialog box This will send users to this new page when they click on this particular hotspot. The other hotspot function available is Run a Command. When selected, this function will allow the user to browse or paste in the address of a website, such as or an executable to launch a different application. When you click Apply, the hotspot is created. Now, save the document. When the user opens your document and clicks on that hotspot, they will be taken (in this example) to the MaxView homepage
9 From a hotspot, users can also set the scale by using the Execute a MaxView Command checkbox and select Set Scale. Users can also have MaxView play a sound or have it open a different MaxView document with the click of a hotspot. Insert Seal The Insert Seal function allows users, as the document owner, to place a seal on a CAL or TIF image that cannot be removed from the file. This is useful for placing an architectural seal onto a drawing. To do this: - Open a TIF or CAL image - On the Tools menu, select MaxMarkup Tools, then Seal Images. - This will pop up a dialog box allowing the user to choose the file they wish to insert. Select the file then click Open. - Now, move the mouse cursor to the desired location for the seal and press the left mouse button. A STRONG WARNING dialog will pop up advising this operation CANNOT BE REVERSED. If that s acceptable, click OK and the seal will be placed on the drawing permanently.
