1.1 Installing the Program BooneMap LT 2016 uses Windows installer 3.1 to install the program on your computer. The program is packaged in a package file, called an MSI file, which contains all of the necessary files and folders to install BooneMap LT In order to use the MSI file, you must have Windows Installer 3.1 installed on your computer. First, double-click the setup.exe and the setup wizard will begin: Boone County GIS recommends using the EXE file because it will check to see if the needed prerequisite files are installed and it will install them from the BooneMap LT folder, if needed. Click Next and choose where to install BooneMap LT 2016 (Boone County GIS recommends the default location: C:\Program Files\BooneMapLT). You can browse for another location and you can see the Disk Cost, which will tell you how much disk space you have available, how much is required, and the difference. At this point, you can also choose to install the program for Everyone or Just Me on the computer. Boone County GIS recommends installing the program for Everyone if the computer is used by multiple people: Page 5 of 36

1.2 Uninstalling the Program BooneMap LT 2016 is added to you Add\Remove Programs. The safest way to uninstall the program is to go to Start Settings Control Panel Add\Remove Programs BooneMap LT This will ensure that all files and folders will be removed correctly. ** Note: The BooneMap LT 2016 folder may not be removed if you customize or add a file to the folder. ** 1.3 Repairing the Program BooneMap LT 2016 can be repaired by clicking the Setup.msi file used to install the program or by using the Add/Remove Programs: Start Settings Control Panel Add/Remove Programs BooneMap LT 2016 Change/Remove Page 6 of 36

2.1 Overview BooneMap LT 2016 uses an initialization file (INI). In this file (BMLT.ini), you will find several important parameters or properties that will be initialized or used when the program is first started. The INI file is copied to the application folder, along with other important files. The following file path is the default location: Win XP: C:\Program Files\BooneMapLT\BMLT.ini or Win 7: C:\Program Files (x86)\boonemaplt\bmlt.ini This file stores parameters for the Default PMF, the layer buttons, the find button locators, and the width of the Table of Contents: Page 8 of 36

2.2 Default Published Map File You can click the Tools menu Options then click Startup to change the PMF that will automatically load when you start BooneMap LT Remember, changing this file will affect how the program will load or operate. There is a BMLT_Backup.ini that can be used in the event the working BMLT.ini is corrupted or deleted. In some cases, BooneMap LT 2016 can create the BMLT.ini automatically. 2.3 Custom Layer Buttons You can click the Tools menu Options then click Buttons to change which layers will be loaded when you click one of five (5) layer buttons (See Section 8.5 Custom Layer Buttons). 2.4 Custom Find Address Locators You can click the Tools menu Options then click Find Address to change which layer will be used to find an address on the map (See Section 6.4 Tools Menu). 10 SECTION 3 PUBLISHED MAP FILES Overview 3.1 Page 10 of 36

3.1 Overview BooneMap LT 2016 uses a Published Map File (PMF), which contains three major components: Available Data Layers Layer Symbology Map Layout and Page Layout A PMF is created by the Boone County Planning Commission, GIS Services Division, using the ArcGIS Extension Publisher. In some cases, restrictions may be placed on the PMF to password protect certain PMFs. Other settings include: Expiration Date Notifying the user that a new PMF is needed to view current data. Data View or Layout View Limitations can be set for which one is available to the user. Functionality Restrictions Some functionality may be restricted to eliminate confusion. Though a PMF is read-only, you can contact the GIS Services Division via phone: or bcgis@boonecountyky.org with questions or comments regarding the published map file (PMF). ** Note: Changes can be easily made by the GIS Services Division at their discretion. ** Page 11 of 36

SECTION 4 MAP VIEW Overview 4.1 Page 12 of 36

4.1 Overview BooneMap LT 2016 has one Map View, which can be used as the Data View and the Page Layout View. It is possible to have more than one Data Frame in the Map View or Table of Contents (TOC). The user can toggle between these two views by clicking on one of the first two buttons: The first button is used to display the data view and the second button is used to display the layout view. The third button is used to refresh the Map View. The map view is the center piece for BooneMap LT This is the control where the user can navigate around the county and perform the most interaction with the GIS data. In addition to the map view, there is also the Table of Contents (TOC) where the user can see layer symbology and turn layers on and off. The toolbar at the top and the buttons on the left side provide the user with the needed controls to utilize BooneMap LT Page 13 of 36

SECTION 5 TABLE OF CONTENTS Overview 5.1 Toggle TOC on and off 5.2 Toggle Layers on and off 5.3 Expanding and Collapsing Layers 5.4 Group Layers 5.5 Right-Click Functionality 5.6 Layer Symbology 5.7 Page 14 of 36

5.1 Overview BooneMap LT 2016 uses a Table of Contents (TOC) or legend to list the available layers and to display the symbology for each layer according to the PMF. The Table of Contents allows for added functionality with the Map View and the layers that make up the map. The Table of Contents is a good way to inventory the layers in a PMF or map as well. In addition, if you see (notice the red exclamation point) then you are missing the data for that particular layer in the PMF and you should contact the Boone County Planning Commission, GIS Services Division via phone: or bcgis@boonecountyky.org to resolve the problem. 5.2 Toggle TOC on and off You can enlarge the Map View by simply hiding the TOC: To HIDE the TOC, you can click the View menu Hide Table of Contents (F10). To SHOW the TOC, you can click the View menu Show Table of Contents (F10). 5.3 Toggle Layers on and off You can turn a layer on by clicking the box to the left of the layer name and placing a checkmark: - This layer will be displayed on the map because of the checkmark. You can turn a layer off by clicking the box to the left of the layer name and removing the checkmark: - This layer will not display on the map because there is no checkmark. - This layer is not visible because of a scale dependency, so the checkmark is grayed out. You must zoom in or right click on the layer and select Zoom to Make Visible. 5.4 Expanding and Collapsing Layers You can expand and collapse the layer s symbology to see the symbology (press the + ) or to save space (press the - ) in the TOC: - This layer is collapsed, so you do not see the layer s symbology. 5.5 Group Layers - This layer is expanded, so that the layer s symbology will appear below. BooneMap LT 2016 allows common layers to be grouped into one layer in the TOC to allow the user to turn multiple layers on and off. An example of this is below: Page 15 of 36

5.5 Group Layers (continued ) In the above example, Airport, street Centerlines, and Edge of Pavement are grouped in a Transportation layer. You can find grouped layers by clicking on the + to the left of the group layer name to see if there are multiple layers. If you click the + next to a layer, you will see the layer s symbology as well. 5.6 Right-Click Functionality BooneMap LT 2016 does have some right-click functionality in the Table of Contents by right-clicking on a layer name or a group layer name: Zoom to Layer Extent This will zoom in on the map to the layer s extent. Zoom to Make Visible This will zoom in on the map below the scale where the layer is visible. Find... This will open the Find Dialog Box, so you can find features (See Section 7.4 Find Tool). Identify... This will open the Identify window, so you can identify features (See Section 7.3 Identify Tool). Properties... This will open the window seen below: 5.7 Layer Symbology ** Note: Layer Properties for a group layer does not have a Source tab. ** Since the layer s symbology is stored in the Published Map File (PMF) and the PMF is read-only, you cannot change the layers symbology in BooneMap LT The PMF would have to be changed in order to change the layer s symbology. You can contact the GIS Services Division via phone: or bcgis@boonecountyky.org. ** Note: Some changes can be made at the discretion of the GIS Services Division. ** Page 16 of 36

7.1 Overview A toolbar is used to extend the mapping capabilities of BooneMap LT The toolbar allows the user to interact with the map and enables them to take advantage of existing functionality. 7.2 Navigation Tools (Data and Layout View) The Navigation tools are used to interact with the map. Below, you will find the buttons used for navigation: 1) The Zoom In tool allows users to zoom in on the map or features. 2) The Zoom Out tool allows users to zoom out on the map or see a larger portion of the map. 3) The Continuous Zoom tool allows users to zoom in and out by clicking and holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse up and down and the user can pan the map by clicking and holding the right mouse button and moving the cursor in any direction. 4) The Pan tool allows the user to move or pan around the map, to see a different portion of the map. 5) The Previous button allows the user to Go Back a previous extent. 6) The Next button allows the user to Go Forward to a previous extent. 7) The Full Extent button allows the user to zoom back the entire county. The navigation tools exclusively for the Layout View are below: These tools allow the user to interact with the Layout View or print preview, but do not change the map itself. These buttons are only visible when the user is in Layout View (See Section 4.1 Overview). 7.3 Identify Tool The Identify tool allows the user to access the attribute data of a feature in a particular layer. When you click on the Identify tool, the window below will appear: Page 20 of 36

7.3 Identify Tool (continued ) Once the window appears, you can either click on the feature that you want to identify or you can change which layer to identify from. For Example, if you want to identify a parcel, you will need to change the Identify from: <Visible layers> to Identify from: Tax Parcel Boundaries like the example below: If you click on more than one feature, the features will be listed in middle window allowing you to select the feature of interest. The identify window is resizable so you can see all of the attributes of the feature: You can click the little down arrow to the right of the Location text box to change how the coordinates display. The default units for X Y Coordinates are Feet. You can copy information about a particular feature by right-clicking on the result in the right hand column: Page 21 of 36

7.3 Identify Tool (continued ) Once you copy the record, you can open Microsoft Excel, Word, Notepad, etc. and paste the attribute information. You can also change how the location is displayed by clicking the dropdown arrow to the right of the location textbox and changing the units from Feet (Default) to any other option (Lat/Long = Deg Min Sec). 7.4 Find Tool (Including Find Address) The Find tool is used to perform a search on a specific layer of interest: To find an address, type the street number and street name in the text box (2950 Washington or 2950 Wash), then click the Building Address button: You can click on the search result and the program will zoom and center the map on the particular feature of interest. If the Find Address button is not working, then you may have to reconfigure the Find Address options under the Tools menu (See Section 6.4 Tools Menu). Page 22 of 36

7.4 Find Tool (Including Find Address) (continued ) You can also search for a 1) Street, 2) Subdivision Name, 3) Subdivision Subsection, 4) Parcel Owner, or 5) Parcel Number by simply typing in the text box what you want to find, then clicking the appropriate button. The Advanced Find button will bring up the following window: On this window, you can specify which layer to perform the search on or you can search all of the layers on the map. It is recommended that you specify the layer to help with performance when searching: The other options include: 1) Making the search non case-sensitive by checking Find features that are similar to 2) Searching all fields 3) Searching a particular field 4) Searching only the primary display field (This is set in the PMF and cannot be changed) Once you enter what you are searching for in the text box, you will click on the Find button to execute the search. You can scroll through your results to find the result you want and right-click on that result to bring up the Context menu shown above. You will have several options to see the result you searched on the map. The most common selection is the Zoom to Feature(s), so you can see the actual feature of interest. The Places tab uses a predefined web service to find places of interest on the internet (Internet connection required). ** Note: Boone county GIS does not publish a web service to support this functionality at this time. ** The Addresses tab uses a predefined address locator, which Boone County GIS does not publish at this time. Most users will find that using the Building Address button on the search window is much easier to use. Page 23 of 36

7.5 Hyperlink Tool The Hyperlink tool is used to hyperlink to other resources outside of the GIS. This tool allows you to open a document, PDF, or image file linked to a feature on the map. Example, there may be a building preplan, which would be linked to the building feature and can be opened as a hyperlink. The features that have hyperlinks will display on the map highlighted in blue and if you click the Hyperlink tool and hover over a feature, the filename will appear as a cursor tip next to your cursor. If there are several hyperlinks, when you click on the feature, a window will appear asking you which hyperlink would you like to open. 7.6 Measure Tool The measure tool can be used to measure the following: Measure a Line First button (Default) Measure an Area Second button Measure a Feature Third button You can also 1) snap to features, 2) show the total measurement, 3) choose a different unit, and 4) clear the results. 7.7 Magnify Tool The Magnify tool is used to magnify an area on the map 400% (Default). Once you click on the Magnify tool, the magnifier window will appear in the upper left hand corner of the Map View: This will eliminate the user from zooming in multiple times. In order to magnify an area, you have to drag the magnifier window to your area of interest on the map. You can right-click on the Magnify Window to see the following: Page 24 of 36

7.7 Magnify Tool (continued ) Magnification Factor: Allows the user to change the zoom factor from 400% to either 200%, 600%, 800%, or 1000%. Lock Magnifier: Allows you to lock the Magnifier Window, so you can then change the location of the area that is being magnified. ** Note: When you first lock the Magnifier, the red square is under the Magnify Window. ** The Lock Magnifier also allows you to resize the red square so that the area you magnify will change. This effectively changes the magnification; thus, making the red square larger will make the magnification less (1%) and making the red square smaller will make the magnification greater (1000%). You can resize or reposition by right-clicking on the Magnify Window. Page 25 of 36

SECTION 8 BUTTONS & TEXT BOX Overview 8.1 Print 8.2 Copy to Clipboard 8.3 Chemical Lookup Button (If Available) 8.4 Custom Layer Buttons 8.5 Show/Hide Fixed Pan Button 8.6 Scale Buttons & Text Box 8.7 Go to X Y Button 8.8 Page 26 of 36

8.1 Overview The buttons below the toolbar are similar to the toolbar buttons, but they do not remain active, instead they perform a specific function when clicked. 8.2 Print The Print button on the toolbar is used to print what is displayed in the Data View or Layout View. Once you click the Print button, you will see the print window, which will give you the different print options like page orientation, page size, etc. The print window is very similar to most Print Dialog Boxes, but could be different based on the printers and print drivers installed on your computer. 8.3 Copy to Clipboard The Clipboard button is used to create a map image on the clipboard and allows you to open the image in a different program like Microsoft Word, Paint, etc. Once you click the Clipboard button, the map image is saved to your clipboard automatically. You can go to another program like Word and paste the map image from the clipboard. 8.4 Chemical Lookup Button (If Available) The Chemical Lookup button can be used by Emergency Response Agencies to lookup certain chemicals to see what course of action a first responder should take when responding to a hazardous material spill. Once you click the button, the following window will appear: You can either search for a chemical based on the placard number or the chemical name. You can see a How to page by clicking the How to use the Guide? link or you can click on the front cover images and see the complete Guide or the Quick Reference. Page 27 of 36

8.5 Custom Layer Buttons These buttons (on the left side of the program) can be used to turn layers on and off. These buttons simply check or uncheck the specified layer in the TOC. The buttons can be customized and the customizations are stored in the INI file and can be changed by clicking the Tools menu Options Buttons: 8.6 Show/Hide Fixed Pan Button The Show Fixed Pan (F6) button will display a window with different navigation buttons. The navigation buttons perform a fixed pan in the direction of the yellow arrow. This allows the user to move around the map in a more controlled environment. The window with the fixed navigation buttons is below: You can also click the same button which now says Hide Fixed Pan (F6). Once you pan in any direction, you can click the Go to Previous Extent button to go back to previous extent. Page 28 of 36

8.7 Scale Buttons & Text Box The four (4) scale buttons are a quick way to zoom to a pre-defined scale. The following buttons are available with the pre-defined scale on the button: The Scale text box allows the user to input their map scale of choice and the map will dynamically change the value as it is entered. If the value is not a valid number value, then the text will turn red, signifying that the value is an invalid map scale. This is particularly important when printing maps, because you can specifically set your map to print at a certain scale. 8.8 Go to X Y Button The X Y button is used to find a location on the map using a coordinate system. Your coordinates can be in one of the following coordinate systems: Feet (Default) Decimal Degrees Degrees Minutes Seconds Degrees Decimal Minutes MGRS US National Grid Once you type in the coordinates, you can click ENTER and the map will zoom to and highlight the point on the map for those particular coordinates. While in Data View, you can place a point on the map and you can add the actual coordinate values to the map for printing. Be sure to do this while in Data View, because the button is disabled in Layout View. You will be able to see the point and text, but you will not be able to add points while in Layout View. Page 29 of 36

SECTION 9 BOOKMARKS Overview 9.1 Page 30 of 36

9.1 Overview BooneMap LT 2016 utilizes bookmarks to help users navigate to a particular place on the map. With bookmarks, several mouse clicks are eliminated because you do not have to zoom and pan the map to a particular area. The bookmarks included incorporated cities (Florence, Union, and Walton) and unincorporated place names (Hebron, Burlington, Petersburg, etc.) in Boone County. The bookmarks are stored in the PMF and can be changed by the GIS Services Division before the PMF is created or published. Page 31 of 36
