3 1.Introduction Thank you for purchasing file manager(rsd-fdfm). Please read through these operating manual so you will know how to use RSD-FDFM software Overview RSD-FDFM software enables you to access CF(Compact Flash) with special format used by RSD-FDCF(FDD emulated CF Card Reader). Please prepare for a CF reader/writer with a USB cable to use this product. *CF formatted by RSD-FDFM software or FDCF hardware has a special format. Due to this special format, you can not use this CF formatted by RSD-FDFM or FDCF as a normal removable disk. RSD-FDFM software is required to access this CF with this special format via a CF reader/writer with a USB cable. This software is compatible with the following 4 kinds of formats: Specifications Format capacity Byte/Sector 2HD 1.44MB 512 Byte/Sector 2HD 1.23MB 1024 Byte/Sector 2DD 720KB 512 Byte/Sector 2DD 640KB 512 Byte/Sector <Confirmation before use> Confirm the CF reader/writer with a USB cable works fine on Windows. Confirm a drive letter assigned to the CF reader/writer. Installation on Windows PC Please make sure that the CF reader/writer works fine on Windows first before the installation of software. 2-1.Installation 1) Insert the setup CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Execute FDCF_FileManagerSetup.exe. If the following [User Account Control] screen appears, click [Yes]. 2)Click [Next] on the [Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for FDCF_FileManager] screen. 2

5 3)Click [Install] on the [Ready to Install the Program] screen. 4)Click [Finish] on the [InstallShield Wizard Complete] screen. Now, you have finished installation. 3

6 2-2.Uninstallation 1) Open [Control Panel] and double-click [Programs and Features]. Select [FDCF_FileManager] and click [Uninstall]. 2) The following confirmation dialogue will appear. Click [Yes]. 3) Click [Finish] on the [Uninstall Complete] screen and restart your PC. Now, you have finished uninstallation. 4

7 3. How to use RSD-FDFM This RSD-FDFM enables you to format data at Windows, convert it into a special format used by RSD-FDFM, and write it onto CF media, so that you can use data stored at Windows at the CF media with a special format dedicated to RSD-FDCF. Data with a special format at the CF media can be saved at Windows. Here is an explanation of this RSD-FDFM software Drive selection Select a drive with CF(Compact Flash). 2 When you remove the selected CF drive from a PC, click [Unload]. 3 Format the selected CF with a specified format type. 5

8 3-1.How to proceed with format CF media When you click [Format], the following dialog will appear. Click [Yes]. Please note if you click [Yes], all of data at CF will be erased. Select a format type from the pull-down menu and click [OK]. When format is complete, the following message will appear. Click [OK]. Now, you have finished format. 6

10 3-2.How to proceed with writing data to CF media Caution: The following 2 steps are required to write data to CF media. 2)By clicking [Write], data added to Tree View will be written to CF. Tree View 1)Select a location such as a volume label, folder, file shown at Tree View and drag data to the selected location to add it to RSD-FDFM software. 1) Select a location such as a volume label, folder, file shown at Tree View. And then, drag data to the selected location to add it to RSD-FDFM software. Tree View Folders, files with the characters in red color has not been written to CF media yet. At the point of time when adding data to Tree View of RSD-FDFM software, data has not been written to CF media yet. 8

11 2) By clicking [Write], the following dialog will appear. Click [Yes].The data added in Tree View will be written to CF by clicking [Yes]. The character color in Tree View will change from red to black for files, and blue for folders after finishing writing the data to CF. 12 Exit --End this application. 7 This section shows firmware/fpga version of FDCF by which formatting CF was made(if CF is formatted by this application, Vxx xx appears, as shown above). 8 This section shows all capacity and capacity used of an assigned CF. 10

13 3-3.How to create files/folders at CF media Method 1: If you right-click and select [New Folder], you can create a new folder under the directory you right-clicked at. Input a directory name to a new folder, and click [OK]. Now, you have finished creating a new folder. 11

14 Method 2: If you drag & drop a file or folder onto a directory at Tree View, you can create a new folder. Drag & Drop it 12

15 test_1.jpg is added under the director of the [DATA_01] folder. At this moment, the data has not been written to CF yet (Character color is red). After clicking [Write], the data will be written to CF. And character color in red will change to blue for folders, black for files. 13

16 3-4.How to delete files/folders at CF media Right-click at the file or folder you want to delete. The following message will appear. Click [Yes]. Now, you have finished deleting it. 14

17 3-5.How to save files/folders at CF media Right-click at the file or folder you want to save. And, select [Save As] from the pull-down menu. Specify a save location and its name and click [Save]. Now, you have finished saving it. 15

18 3-6.A list of error messages of RSD-FDFM No. Message Cause 1 There is no capacity that can be written. Available space in Compact flash media doesn t exist. 2 It cannot access media. Because other application accesses the media, it can t access the media. 3 The format file doesn't exist. Format file doesn t exist. 4 It failed in the format of media. While writing, a cause such as removing the media results in failing to access the media. 5 It failed in writing media. It is necessary to recognize a current information before writing the media. 7 It failed in reading media. While reading, a cause such as removing the media results in failing to access the media. 8 It is media with a different format type. This media cannot be read. Because it failed to recognize FAT 12/16 format type, it failed to read. 9 It failed in detaching media. Command of removal failed. 10 Because the same directory name exists, the addition of the file is interrupted. 11 Because the length of the full path had exceeded characters of the limitation, it was not possible to preserve it. The same directory exists. If the length of full path exceeds the limitation of 260 characters, the files or folders can t be saved. 16
