2 Basic Navigation Bar The navigation menu is located in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Each icon holds a drop-down menu of options for viewing preferences. Zoom In/Out To zoom in on the map select the (+) icon and to zoom out select the (-) icon. To zoom in on a specific area, hold down the SHIFT key and, using the mouse, click and hold while dragging the cursor outwards. Search Bar In the Search bar enter a location. The screen will zoom in to the desired designation.. Home Button Select the Home Button in order to revert back to the screen s original position. 2

3 Legend The first icon on the top bar denotes the Legend drop-down menu. The legend provides a key for understanding the symbols and colored regions on the map by connecting them to their associated values. Legend values are only provided for visible layers. Field Photos/DRAFT: Permafrost Bore Holes By selecting a color-coded symbol on the map, a text box with information or a field photo relevant to the location on the map will appear. Eco Landscapes By clicking on shaded regions in the map, a box will appear with a button that links to the region s detailed ecological description. Other Layers Click on an area of the map to see the attributes associated with visible layers for that area. Use the arrow to scroll through attributes from multiple layers. 3

4 Layer List This icon allows one to view the various layer settings. Each layer can be manually selected by clicking on the box next to each label. To remove a layer, click the box once more and this will deselect it. By selecting the gray arrow on the right side of a layer, a drop down menu will appear. Clicking on the Description option will open up a link to the layer s description. 4

5 Basemap Gallery The basemap icon has a selection of themes to view the map in. Each theme has different geographical characteristics that it focuses on such as topography, for example. The Basemap Gallery allows one theme to be selected at a time. The default setting is topographic. In order to change the theme, select a different option from the gallery. 5

6 Draw The Draw option enables one to place points of reference on the map and highlight areas of interest using shapes and other symbols. In the menu, there are several different drawing tools to utilize. For example, if the line mode is selected, one can place a line on the map connecting one point to another point. The color and size of the line can be manipulated to the viewer s preferences. To remove drawings from the map, select Clear. Near the bottom of the menu, the Show Measurements option can be selected to demonstrate distance between location points in various units (i.e. kilometers, miles, meters, etc.) or areas (square kilometers etc.) of enclosed spaces. 6

7 Measurement The Measurement icon provides information relating to distance, area, and latitude and longitude. Similar to the Draw function, one can manually outline a perimeter of an area on the map to view its measurements, connect points on the map to each other to view distance, and flag points on the map to view their geographic coordinates. To begin, select a measurement mode. Next, click once on a desired point to start mapping and double click to end mapping. The measurement will appear under Measurement Result. To end measurement mode click on the icon again and it will be deselected. 7

8 Overview Map In the bottom right-hand corner of the screen there is a white arrow. Selecting the arrow will display the overview map. By clicking and holding down, the shaded area can be moved around to navigate the main map quickly. To remove the overview map from the screen, click the arrow again.
